User Talk: David.Monniaux

Server-side rendered snapshot of this editor's Wikipedia talk page discussions.

It appears that the entry at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mattlobato has been deleted on the basis of an alleged copyright violation. I would be grateful if the decision to delete this entry could be reviewed in the light of the following information:

In fact as soon as I received an allegation that an infringement of copyright may have occurred, this was immediately remedied and the content deleted, and an entirely new version replaced it without delay with notice to the party alleging infringement. However, notwithstanding this, the new content appears to have been mistakenly deleted, and this amended version did not contain any copyright material whatever. I hope this clears up any confusion in this matter and I trust that the deleted content may now be restored. <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned ↗ comment added by Mattlobato (talkcontribs ↗) 19:33, 12 August 2009 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Proposed deletion of Londonistan (term) ↗

I have proposed this article for deletion, as I think that the use of the term apart from being a title of a book is non-notable. Of course it could just be that I have not heard this term used much myself, if that is the case please provide references showing when and how this term was used and by whom. -- Q Chris (talk) 07:49, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Jersey Legal French

Bonjour. Man vyi (talk) 18:47, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Onboarding article

David - Accepting my own bias, having written three books on the subject, I do not think we should delete the "Onboarding" article. If you Google onboarding, you'll find 768,000 entries. It's a large and growing subject that is making a dramatic impact on the acceleration of new employees and reducing their risk of failure. Of all the Google entries, the Wikipedia article is the first one.

You made some comments about some parts of the article not seeming academic enough. I took out all the corporate references and embedded sales pitches for onboarding software. The books cited were published by Wiley, the world's largest business publisher, and the Harvard Press, part of Harvard University - both extremely credible publishers that believe this is an important topic. Watkins was a professor at Harvard and is now at Insead. He's looked at this subject from the academic side. I've been building a body of knowledge around this for 20+ years from both a business and research perspective.

Net, let's evolve and improve instead of deleting. The article is definitely helping some people.

Barbara Stcherbatcheff

I fail to understand your deletion of Barbara Stcherbatcheff ↗ as A7. The article needed work, and was potentially a candidate for a deletion discussion, but the article did assert in the lead that she is a published columnist. The body also showed that she's a published author. A7, as I understand it is for when an article makes no attempt to establish notability. -Verdatum (talk) 16:34, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

:We had complaints on OTRS ↗ about it, from its subject. If an article is of interest only to its subject and its subject's personal enemies, that's definitely a problem and probably indicates lack of notability. David.Monniaux (talk) 18:29, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

: I see nothing wrong with the version in Google's cache ↗. --Apoc2400 (talk) 19:21, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

::Earlier versions contained demeaning comments, and the subject basically had to have an edit war to get them removed.
::I myself see something wrong with this cached article - it's a biography of a living person largely without sources. The only sources cited are primary sources (she once wrote articles for <insert name of magazine>, proof: see magazine), her own personal web site, her employer's web site and so on. If you compare to, say, the biography of Charles de Gaulle ↗, you'll notice that the latter has a multiplicity of sources.
::Wikipedia is not a directory of professionals, including professionals involved in journalism. David.Monniaux (talk) 20:34, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
:::If it was an attack page, then I believe that's a G10, not an A7. If the sources are ungood, that is an AFD or prod, not a speedy. Am I mistaken in this? -Verdatum (talk) 15:11, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

This was a OTRS ↗ action because of repeat edit wars with unflattering commentary in an article otherwise violating Wikipedia's rules because of absence of independent sources. Apart from that, I'm not into wikilawyering and red tape. David.Monniaux (talk) 15:43, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
:I can appreciate that, I'm just trying to confirm the situation so I know what to do next. I don't think there's any point in proposing undeletion, since attacks should remain stricken, and selective history deletes are a pain. I suppose I'll recreate the article minus whatever content that fails WP:BLP ↗ and see where it goes from there. -Verdatum (talk) 21:04, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Florissimo 03.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to ''':File:Florissimo 03.JPG ↗'''. Please go to the file description page ↗ and edit it to include a fair use rationale ↗.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Edinburgh Make poverty history dsc06375.jpg

64px|left ↗
Thank you for uploading ''':File:Edinburgh Make poverty history dsc06375.jpg ↗'''. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content ↗. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline ↗ is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag ↗; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion ↗. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page ↗. Thank you.<!-- Template:No fair --> J Milburn (talk) 15:26, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion ↗ nomination of :Sahar (TV station) ↗

48px|left ↗ A tag has been placed on :Sahar (TV station) ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable ↗, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies ↗. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard ↗.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding <code>{{tl|hangon}}</code> to '''the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion ↗''' (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on '''the talk page ↗''' explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for ''speedy'' deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins ↗ to request that they userfy ↗ the page or have a copy emailed to you. <!-- Template:Db-inc-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> ܥܝܪܐܩ (talk) 07:56, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Florissimo 03.JPG

32px|left ↗
Thanks for uploading ''':File:Florissimo 03.JPG ↗'''. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use ↗, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion ↗ in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

# Go to the media description page ↗ and edit it to add {{tlx|di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, '''without deleting the original replaceable fair use template'''.
# On the image discussion page ↗, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license ↗, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. MSU Interview

Dear David.Monniaux,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar ↗, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE ↗, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Non-free rationale for File:Trust Bonvoisin Krief.jpg

64px|left|alt=|link= ↗
Thanks for uploading or contributing to ''':File:Trust Bonvoisin Krief.jpg ↗'''. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria ↗, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page ↗, and edit it to include a non-free rationale ↗.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions ↗" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion ↗. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion ↗ and ask for a chance to fix the problem.<!-- Template:You can request undeletion --> If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page ↗. Orphaned non-free media (File:Association for Computing Machinery logo.png)

25px|link= ↗ Thanks for uploading ''':File:Association for Computing Machinery logo.png ↗'''. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use ↗. However, it is currently orphaned ↗, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back ↗ if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media ↗).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions ↗" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:RDDV mecontent 573.jpg

64px|left|alt=|link= ↗
Thank you for uploading ''':File:RDDV mecontent 573.jpg ↗'''.

Thank you.<!-- Template:No fair --> Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:52, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" ↗ on {{formatnum:25}} {{int:April}} {{formatnum:2014|NOSEP}} after a community consultation. An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement ↗. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by {{formatnum:31}} {{int:December}} {{formatnum:2015|NOSEP}} to retain their access. Autograv

Hi David, I was looking for images of gravimeters, and I found an entire category on commons of your photos https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Scintrex_CG-5_Autograv_gravimeter ↗. I would be about to use these images in a page on it.wiki, but I have to ask you a question before editing properly: I saw the gravimeter displaying the acceleration in mGal, showing an average value around 4000 mGal. I know that acceleration of gravity on earth is about 976-983 Gal, so I can't understand what the instrument was measuring while you took the pictures. Can you dispel my doubt please? If it's not too much trouble, answer me on my discussion page on it.wiki, here ↗. Thanks--Samuele Madini (talk) 20:31, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hi, and thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give :GIGN ↗ a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste ↗ move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history ↗, which is legally required for attribution ↗. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be ''moved'' to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits ↗, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab ↗ at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu ↗ for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect ↗ from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves ↗ to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge ↗. Thank you. <!-- Template:uw-c&pmove--><!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> <span style="text-shadow:lightgray 3px 2px 2px;color:#C60;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:95%;font-weight:bold;">Bradv</span> ↗ 20:39, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

{{ivmbox|1=Hello, David.Monniaux. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection ↗ (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right ↗ was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion ↗ with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment ↗ established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
Please review the protection policy ↗ carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you. <br><small>This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list ↗. Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP ↗ based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page ↗ in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page ↗ for additional information. '''Important''': Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard ↗. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi {{BASEPAGENAME}}.

A new user group, '''New Page Reviewer''' ↗, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM ↗. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here ↗ but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR ↗. <small>''(Sent to all admins)''</small>.MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required ↗ to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices ↗." We have updated ↗ our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication ↗ remains an ''optional'' means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)</small>

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled ↗

A recently closed ↗ Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled ↗ from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager ↗, choose to self-assign ↗ this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. How we will see unregistered users

<section begin=content/>
Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin '''will still be able to access the IP'''. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools ↗ to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta ↗. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe ↗ to the weekly technical newsletter ↗.

We have two suggested ways ↗ this identity could work. '''We would appreciate your feedback''' on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page ↗. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you.

Glossary at Judiciary of France

Hi, David,

I can see that you aren't here very often anymore, but next time you pop in, could you have a look at Judiciary of France ↗? I know that it's been a very long time since you wrote it, but I'm interested in the Judiciary of France#Glossary ↗ section, and would like to spin it off into a new article, and expand it. Proposed deletion ↗ of :The Jewish Observer (Los Angeles) ↗

left|link=|alt=Notice|48px| ↗

The article :The Jewish Observer (Los Angeles) ↗ has been proposed for deletion ↗&#32;because of the following concern:
<blockquote>'''WP:ORGSIG ↗. Website isn't noteworthy. Only source isn't reliable'''</blockquote>

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons ↗.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary ↗ or on the article's talk page ↗.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process ↗, but other deletion process ↗es exist. In particular, the speedy deletion ↗ process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion ↗ allows discussion to reach consensus ↗ for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> Eric Schucht (talk) 01:15, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Jean-bedel Bokassa article needs a wiki Knowledgeable persons help

If your know how to properly edit Wikipedia, I don’t but for the sake of knowledge please fix this or pass it on to someone who can!!

trial section - citations 58-60ish, abc are cited an article December 26 1986 . Because I’m a cool guy who does cool things, I went and found that Newsweek through my public library!! (It can be illegally found online in seconds but I like doing it old school) mostly I found this guy fascinating and wanted to read more. The information cited in this Wikipedia article cannot be found in the referenced Newsweek source. It’s a one page with large photos puff. Contains No more info than a basic AP or Reuters line and certainly not what is cited here

for the sake of good knowledge, clean this if you now how to do it properly 2601:196:8600:C6F0:D106:8A87:3B58:D92A ↗ (talk) 23:11, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
