Restructure Amanda Ghost (reminder)

Hi Derek. Although several weeks have passed since the holiday season, I still hope they were enjoyable and meaningful. This is a reminder, if you are now available, to please have a look at my edit request to restructure Amanda Ghost's Wiki article, found at Talk:Amanda Ghost#Page restructure and additions ↗, as I explained in a previous message which is now archived at User talk:Derek R Bullamore/Archive 26#Restructure Amanda Ghost. Thanks so much. Londonhyrax (talk) 18:01, 11 February 2025 (UTC)

:Hi again Derek. This is a gentle nudge to kindly ask you if you might take a look at the Amanda Ghost edit request ↗ I posted in December, and if you can, to please implement the changes. If you need any additional information or help from me, I am happy to oblige, just let me know. All the best, and thanks in advance for your help. 80.87.24.205 ↗ (talk) 14:09, 17 February 2025 (UTC)

The Ruts

Hi – I noticed you placed a refimprove tag on The Ruts ↗. I've attempted to address the lack of citations (and truth be told, if you check out the talk page, you'll see my concerns with the page given that the preexisting text there was largely copied straight from The Ruts' defunct website bio). If you have the will and time, I would greatly appreciate if you'd give the page a look over and see if it's in decent enough condition to at least remove the tag. Thank you so much! Take care, and I hope you're well :)

(P.S. Please forgive my overuse of semicolons. I tend to overuse them when drafting text, and I realize I forgot to replace quite a few of them with alternative sentence structures. I can remove them if needed.) Afddiary (talk) 20:24, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

:Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have been away from home for a few days. I read through the current article and have given it a slight polish. I have assumed good faith in that I have not checked that the references listed actually support the text. Nevertheless you have done a great job and I have therefore removed the refimprove tag. Well done. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:05, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

Tom Principato ↗

Dear Derek,<br/>
Thank you for the article on this blues rock musician. I used it as the basis for the counterpart in the German-language Wikipedia. However, when editing it, I realised that the content had hardly been updated since 2014/2015. I would be delighted if the German version could help refresh the original article. (The awards that Principato received in Germany are still being added). Greetings from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ↗ --Artessa (talk) 13:40, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
:Yes I would be delighted too. It is not often that I revisit articles that I have 'penned' (unless I find errors). It is not my article ↗ as such. All assistance, well intentioned of course, is very welcome. Best wishes. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:45, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
::Please don't count on my help (other projects, language barrier). It should only be a hint. And yes, the errors discovered have been corrected in the German text. Otherwise a few things have been added. All the best! --Artessa (talk) 14:11, 1 July 2025 (UTC)

Revision to Bo Diddley ↗

Undid revision 1303108234 by AjaxSmack (talk) ''No it was not. Read the first paragraph of the 'Early life' section for fuller explanation.'' ↗

I did and found: ''"Bo Diddley was born...as Ellas Otha Bates...'''McDaniel''' eventually adopted him, and '''he assumed her surname'''."'' While he was ''born'' Bates, his name was changed to McDaniel very early and he used that legal name his whole life. Read this as an example. ↗

Note that many of his records are credited to "McDaniel",https://i.discogs.com/NNd8y4h4UU-0Z-TVcni8cww4-T7XeTPndU1QAUfkjQY/rs:fit/g:sm/q:90/h:594/w:600/czM6Ly9kaXNjb2dz/LWRhdGFiYXNlLWlt/YWdlcy9SLTI3MDc4/MjYtMTcwOTcyNjI5/Ni0zODk2LmpwZWc.jpeg ↗ he has children are named "McDaniel"https://www.gainesville.com/story/news/local/2011/02/26/rock-n-roll-legend-bo-diddleys-family-contesting-his-will/31795530007/ ↗ and his grave reads "McDaniel".https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/27264565/bo-diddley#view-photo=42120401 ↗

That's why I put "McDaniel" in the intro where his legal name goes, and left "Bates" in the Early life" section". — <span style="border:1px solid #004705;background:#168c1d;padding:2px;color:#e9ede9;text-shadow:black 0.2em 0.2em 0.3em; font-family: Georgia;">&nbsp;'''AjaxSmack'''&nbsp;</span> 13:27, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

A call for a subsection review

Derek, we worked together back in the day—when I was on faculty, and regularly led students contributing to articles—with you characteristically coming in after, and fixing many things we found broken.

Besides a hello, which will unfortunately have to remain relatively anonymous, I wanted to call your attention to the "Controversy..." subsubsection of the Alan Price ↗ article, in its Music section, The Animals subsection. That subsubsection content is drawn from a single source, and I think someone who cares and knows about music should have a look, consult other relevant sources, reflect alternative perspectives if available, edit and cite as need be, and then remove my section tag.

Since I saw that you had already done some ref-improvement work there, I thought you the best person to ask. All yours, as I used to say. Cheers. 98.32.141.216 ↗ (talk) 03:09, 8 September 2025 (UTC)

:Hello again. Sorry for the delay in responding, but real life does get in the way from time to time! My initial reactions here are 1} How many times have I seen squabbling between now old men, about their perceived music-related injusticies in the 1960s, and how these still continue to fester over time; 2) that subsection is undoubtedly WP:UNDUE ↗ giving as it does one side the siutation without any WP:BALANCE ↗, which is clearly contrary to Wikipedia's desire for WP:NPOV ↗; and 3) actually the whole piece is misplaced, as it should be (IF anywhere) in the "House of the Rising Sun ↗" article. It is perhaps worth noting that one music journalist wrote "... Price departed (supposedly suffering from aerophobia)... Burton still maintains that Price's departure was because he had taken ownership of the lucrative publishing rights to 'House of the Rising Sun' and was therefore financially secure".<ref name="Larkin60">{{cite book|title=The Virgin Encyclopedia of Sixties Music ↗|editor=Colin Larkin ↗|publisher=Virgin Books ↗|date=1997|edition=First|isbn=0-7535-0149-X|pages=15/16}}</ref>

:My view is that the subsection should be withdrawn, placed on the song's talk page and... well, let battle commence, if anyone can be bothered. (I grow evermore sceptical of the amount of time any editor spends looking at these 'old timer' article talk pages - although, to be fair, that talk page has seen some action over the years). - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 18:12, 20 September 2025 (UTC)

Got your message regarding the changes to Nora Jean Bruso page

Derek. appreciate your help. and could really use more assistance as this is new to me.

I have been trying to get the page to be Nora Jean Wallace. Its too confusing to her following and fans. She has been divorced for 10 years and has release new music and videos since What info can I get to make these changes.

here is her current facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/norajean.wallace

instagram -https://www.instagram.com/norajeanwallace/?hl=en

recent article and show at crossroads blue festival - https://www.crossroadsbluessociety.com/

Article on new album from Severn Records - https://severnrecords.com/nora-jean-wallace-deals-straight-chicago-blues-on-her-new-album-blueswoman/

Here is the schedule for this year's Chicago Blues festival you can see how she is listed here. https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/dca/supp_info/chicago_blues_festival9.html

You are probably right about the marriage. That will actually clear up some of the confusion

Again - really appreciate your help

Roy Wood's birth date

Hello. I believe you've changed Roy Wood date of birth back to 1946. I believe that he was born in 1947. I can send you a photo of his driving licence to prove this if you wish. &#126;2025-33391-05 ↗ (talk) 23:58, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

:There are four problems here. Firstly what some editor 'believes' is somewhat irrelevant, because the Wikipedia editing guidelines at WP:V ↗ state {{tq|Wikipedia's content is determined by published information rather than editors' beliefs, experiences, or previously unpublished ideas or information. Even if you are sure something is true, it must have been previously published in a reliable source before you can add it.}} Then there is the question as to why you have not provided a source for your assertion. WP:BLP ↗ states, among other matters {{tq| All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be supported by an inline citation to a reliable, published source}}. Plus photocopies of anything are not admissible, and you may need to have a look at WP:RS ↗, which sets out Wikipedia editing guidelines relating to the validity, or otherwise, of any proposed source material. Then there is the 'experience' shown by an editor who is making their first edit and talk page comments. One wonders what a sock puppet investigation may unearth. In short, your edits have been reverted. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 20:02, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

:PS. AllMusic ↗, for one, states 1946 ↗.

A barnstar for you!

:Thank you - it is a long time; and a fairly lengthy timeframe since I last got a barn star too. Much appreciated. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:15, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
::Sadly, WP:Barnstar ↗s are underused, IMO.
::We seem to gravitate toward punishment, not rewards. Positive reinforcement builds; not so much with negative. :::Yes, I do not know why the useage of barnstars has dropped off. Wikipedia at times resembles a battleground - one not helped by the softly softly, nice and easy approach to dealing with vandals and ne'er-do-wells. ::::One of the ironies I have observed are the number of '''"Editor of the Week"''' award winners who come go a bad end. "Tall poppy syndrome ↗."
::::As to the use of barnstars, I am guessing folks feel they personally are unrequited, so why give them out to others. Somehow the giving of cost free electronic rewards is viewed as a Zero sum game ↗. Who'd a thought.

How many etc

How many? I'm 66 years old, going on 67 as of April 2026.
How long? That's a personal question that will stay my own immense secret.
Who cares? I definitely do, since you made such lovely edits to my father's Wiki page (Russell Freeman -- the ORIGINAL one!).

The next time I take the ferry over to the UK for a visit to London and Bath, I'll give you a heads-up, and we can have a beverage or five. I'm thinking springtime of '26 since then I'll be old enough to do such things.
