Beaver
Hello, are you finished with your copyedit? LittleJerry (talk) 21:24, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
:1. Hello {{Reply to|LittleJerry}}
:2. Yes, I have made all the changes I feel capable of making. I hope they meet with your approval. Thank you for backing out the one that did not.
:3. There are two changes I wanted to make but did not have the requisite knowledge or access to references to make. You may wish to consider them:
:3.a. In the "Environmental Effects" section:
:"Beaver modifications to streams in Poland have been associated with increased activity of bat species that hunt at the water surface and use [more] moderate vegetation clutter."
:It isn't clear to me what "more" refers to in this sentence (more than what?) and I wanted to remove it but was afraid it would change the meaning of the sentence.
:3.b. In the "Communication" section:
:"An adult's tail slap is more successful in alerting others, which then escape into the lodge or deeper water."
:I wanted to replace this sentence with:
:"An adult's tail slap is more successful [than that of a juvenile] in alerting others, which then escape into the lodge or deeper water."
:but was uncertain that this change was what the sentence author intended.
:4. FYI, I happened upon this "Beaver" article by chance and it is coincidence that I was copyediting in parallel with Twofingered Typist, whose copyediting you requested. I am not connected with the GOCE.
:5. Please, could you acknowledge receipt of this message so I know I have posted it correctly?
::{{Reply to|LittleJerry}}
::Didn't sign my post in the previous session so you weren't notified, correcting that omission now.

Tammar wallaby
Would you be able to copyedit tammar wallaby ↗? I made some recent addition and revisions. Thanks. LittleJerry (talk) 22:19, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
:@LittleJerry,
:Yes, that looks like fun. Unfortunately I will not be able to give it my full attention until three days from now, so if you find someone else to copyedit I will follow along behind them at that time. Also I won't be much use yet for finding errors in citations and the other technical aspects -- I can only help with English grammar, vocabulary and syntax.

Disambiguation link notification for May 5
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Hamilton-class cutter ↗, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ESM ↗. Such links are usually incorrect ↗, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ{{*}} Join us at the DPL WikiProject ↗.)

It could be argued that you have a conflict of interest on that topic, and that you should therefore make full disclosure before continuing to edit that article.
Which you have already done. Good work. DS (talk) 03:50, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Annaspencer13 (talk) 09:07, 4 October 2021 (UTC)Hello. Thankyou for the information and letting me know of the fact that overlinking should be avoided. I will keep that in check. :)

Your change to Smith & Wesson Model 5906 ↗
I removed the misplaced maintenance template that your edit ↗ left in the wrong place - it was originally part of the next-lower section entitled ''Criminal uses'', which was incrementally deleted from Oct/Nov 2023. Thx. 82.13.47.210 ↗ (talk) 22:22, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
:Thank you for removing the misplaced maintenance template. Please, why are you telling me this? My edit did not move or otherwise affect the maintenance template at all {{emdash}} it was misplaced when I got there. Thanks in advance for the clarification.
:Dieter.Meinertzhagen (talk) 22:39, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
::You removed linked text (name), but what was left didn't make sense; therefore needed more examination than a mere drive-by. The template should've been at the top of a section - that was the giveaway. The (removed) heading made it more sensible along with the name - from memory I think there originally was a ref, too.
::I am aware that some named editors consider IP addresses to be innately suspicious, and, as a random drive-by myself, having trawled through the history of changes including from IPs, I dropped you a note whilst I still had the tabs open. Thx.-- — Preceding unsigned ↗ comment added by 82.13.47.210 ↗ (talk) 14:38, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Unlinking text
Hello there. It was correct for you to unlink the names of the countries in each of the boldfaced "Corruption in X" leads, but then you ought to have linked the very next occurrence of the names! Largoplazo (talk) 18:52, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:{{ping|Largoplazo}} Thanks for your comment. My rationales for not re-adding the links to X to the "Corruption in X" articles were:
:(1) MOS:BUILD ↗: ''In adding or removing links, consider an article's place in the knowledge tree... Ask yourself, "How likely is it that the reader will also want to read that other article?"''
:I thought that anyone coming to a relatively specialized article like "Corruption in X" would be coming from a spot higher in the knowledge tree where they already knew enough about X that they would no longer be interested in the more general article on X.
:(2) MOS:OVERLINK ↗: ''In addition, major examples of the following categories should generally not be linked: Countries (e.g., Brazil/Brazilian, Canada/Canadian, China/Chinese)''
:I thought that all of the countries whose "Corruption in X" articles I was dealing with were well-known enough that they didn´t need linking.
:I chose the MOS:LINK ↗ rationale for removing the links rather than the two above because I hoped the MOS:LINK ↗ rationale would allow a brief edit summary that was indisputable enough that no one would question it.
:Thanks again!
:Dieter.Meinertzhagen (talk) 20:15, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
::MOS:OVERLINK ↗ is very important but it requires a judgement call. Links should exist both upwards and downwards between directly related subjects in a hierarchy. Where a link wouldn't be called for is in a sentence like "X performed in Malaysia, Japan, and the Philippines before moving to Los Angeles to join the cast of ''Chicago Hope ↗''. In this case, the places are incidental. It's unlikely that the person reading this will find any information further about those places is incidental to X. In contrast, the shows that an actor X performed in are more fundamental to X.
::Anyway, that's how I judge it. It's tough to understand, say, corruption in Cameroon without any other context about Cameroon. You can't assume the reader got to the corruption article ''from'' the Cameroon ↗ article because they could have gotten there from a web search or via the Template:Africa topic ↗ navigation template that appears at the bottom of all African corruption articles. Largoplazo (talk) 20:47, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:::{{ping|Largoplazo}} Given that so many other people think as you do, I will certainly leave existing links pointing to country articles alone unless I have a strong justification to remove them, like the MOS:LINK ↗ one that I have been using. However, I don´t think that I myself will be adding many links that point to country articles.
:::While I have your attention, did you notice that in the Corruption in Sierra Leone ↗ article, you created a link from "Sierra Leone" to Sierra Leone national football team ↗? Did you mean to link "Sierra Leone" to Sierra Leone ↗?
:::Best wishes,
:::Dieter.Meinertzhagen (talk) 21:25, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
::::Thanks for pointing that out. If the mouse cursor is sitting on top of where the autocomplete dropdown is going to appear, it'll pick the entry under the cursor instead of the one you typed in. Or something like that. So that's what must have happened. Fixed. Largoplazo (talk) 22:06, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
