Question from PIOCDSS2026 (15:50, 17 June 2026)
Hi - I am tasked with keeping the California Department of Social Services' page accurate and up-to-date. The last few times I tried to edit language to ensure accuracy, they have been rejected without reason. Can you help me understand why and how I can make sure the information needed on the page makes it to public view? Thanks! --PIOCDSS2026 (talk) 15:50, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from Yussif62 (19:49, 23 June 2026)
Hello, how do I create a wiki page for myself or someone so that when they search for that person online, the wiki page would show? --Yussif62 (talk) 19:49, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
:Hello, and welcome! You can create a draft of the article at Draft:Name of topic, and submit it to Articles for Creation ↗ so me (or another) user can review the draft and give any help! However, if you want to write about youself or someone you know, I recomend understanding the Autobiography Policy ↗ to understand why that is both discouraged and possibly harming to your goal. Question from IdidntwantanameNOOOOO (15:33, 1 July 2026)
This may sound stupid but if I go to my user page and create a user page, I'm creating it for myself, right? --IdidntwantanameNOOOOO (talk) 15:33, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
:Hello, and yes! A userpage is a page for you to customize. For instance, mine lists my interests and activities on Wikipedia. Not that a userpage is not an article about you, as you do not need to share information if you do not wish. GGOTCC 21:19, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Question from TLHeaton (17:44, 1 July 2026)
I made a successful edit the other day and I went in today to add an additional citation to fully support the statement of first made and I am not sure if I did it correctly. I have a code copied from copilot created for Wkipedia. Question from TLHeaton (17:53, 1 July 2026)
I also would like to know how to start a page? --TLHeaton (talk) 17:53, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
:Hi again! Great question.
:You can create an article by typing the name into the search bar, and if you are met with a blank page, you can click "create" and start writing. You can also use your personal sandbox (User:TLHeaton/sandbox) to experiment and save any work that is not finished. For new users, I advise you to submit the draft to Wikipedia:Articles for creation ↗ for others to help you! GGOTCC 21:23, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
Question from RisingSon1 (09:27, 4 July 2026)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I've written two edits for two different Wikipedia articles over the past few days. These Wikipedia articles were:
Ulverston
Hoad Monument
The edits I made were for the inclusion of the musician Peter Buckley who has become a household name in the Lake District due to a number of historical events surrounding both the town of Ulverston and the Sir John Barrow Monument. The information is common knowledge amongst anyone who lives in the town of Ulverston and surrounding areas.
A lot of historical events over the past five years surrounding this musician have occurred and have been written about in third party newspapers 'The Mail' and 'The Westmorland Gazette'.
The edits I made with the inclusion of the noteworthy citations have been dismissed/edited out. This really doesn't make sense to me as any edits I've taken the time to generate are of importance to the history of Ulverston's community & culture, and the Hoad Monument. I've also made sure that every sentence that I wrote came directly from a third party new article and the related citation was included.
Would you be able to help me either understand why my edits have been ironed out when I'm repeating quotes from external news articles or help me to write the articles in such a way as to include the important historical impacts of this musician,
Apologies for the long winded message, but it has taken me hours putting the information together and to do a good job to find this morning that it has been removed even with the backing up power of multiple iron-clad citations. --RisingSon1 (talk) 09:27, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
:Hello there, and welcome!
:First off, it can be disheartening to have your contributions removed, and I am glad you reached out.
:Looking at the article's edit history (the small button labeled "view history"), your edits were partially undone by another user, {{ping|10mmsocket}}. You could discuss the matter with them if you object. 10mmsocket's rational was that the changes were promotional towards Peter Buckley and unencyclopedic, and I agree with the reasoning. The text reads like an advertisement for Mr. Buckley rather than a neutral summery of information about the monuments. For instance, "To ensure a significant impact, Buckley contributed his own personal funds to bring the final donation to exactly £250" is both a very minute detail and comes off as praise to the musician.
:This information could be better suited for a stand-alone article of Peter Buckley if it is neutrally presented, and relevant sections on the monuments' articles mentioning their use as performance spaces.
:Additionally, some of this text has the impression of being written by an LLM (AI model) such as ChatGPT. These LLMs are unreliable and banned on the English Wikipedia, and you are strongly encouraged to use your own words as these models are known to produce overly promotional text.
:Does this help? GGOTCC 21:36, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
::Thanks, and I agree with what you have written. @RisingSon1 - see Help:Your first article ↗ and after reading it, maybe consider using the article wizard to write a draft article about Peter Buckley. 10mmsocket (talk) 07:37, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
:::Hi guys (@GGOTCC & @10mmsocket), thank you very much for getting back to me with a detailed explanation, I really appreciate it and now I understand where you are coming from in terms of the manner in which I wrote the content. I heavily used the articles I found online about him to generate the content and some of the wording in the articles actually do resemble quite promotional use of the English language. I won't do it right away as I am really busy with work this week, but I will do your suggestions as I really do enjoy writing new Wikipedia content, just need to learn how to do it properly now! Thanks again for the information and for your time and patience. RisingSon1 (talk) 14:58, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
::::Always happy to help new editors. Good luck. 10mmsocket (talk) 15:23, 6 July 2026 (UTC)

:I nominate GGOTCC to be Editor of the Week for their valuable and high-quality contributions to Wikipedia. In an age where content-focused editors are in decline, particularly on niche WikiProjects, dedicated users like GGOTCC are invaluable in maintaining the health of the project. Since joining Wikipedia in 2021, GGOTCC has created over 90 articles, the bulk of them within the scope of WP:SHIPS ↗ and WP:MILHIST ↗. Their GA log ↗ is similarly impressive, having worked to promote 18 GAs, and conducting 19 GA reviews as of this nomination. They have also contributed 23 DYK nominations ↗ to the aforementioned projects. I believe GGOTCC's solid work merits this award. This nomination was seconded by TechnoSquirrel69 and HouseBlaster

Hi, GGOTCC. You are cordially invited to the brand new Wikipedia:Mentorship noticeboard ↗. I get the impression sometimes that we mentors are each toiling in our own cubbyhole or hamster wheel, quietly answering mentee questions with little to no interaction with other mentors. I think we have a lot to share and learn from each other, and I know it will make me feel better just having the opportunity to interact with you and other mentors there, and I hope it will for you, too.
