25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello, and thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia, and in particular for adding references, as you did to Royal Navy ↗! However, you should know that adding a bare URL ↗ is not ideal, and exposes the reference to linkrot ↗. It is preferable to use proper citation templates ↗ when citing sources ↗. A '''bare URL ↗''' is a URL ↗ cited as a reference ↗ for some information in an article ''without any accompanying information about the linked page.'' In other words, it is just URL copied and pasted into the Wiki text, inserted between <nowiki><ref>...</ref></nowiki> tags, without title, author, date, or ''any'' of the usual information necessary for a bibliographic citation. Here's an example of a full citation using the {{tl|cite web}} template to cite a web page:
: <code><nowiki>Lorem ipsum<ref>{{cite web |title=Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac |publisher=Canon Inc |work=Ask a Question |date=2022 |url=https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART174839 |access-date=2022-04-02}}</ref> dolor sit amet.</nowiki></code>
which displays ''inline ↗'' in the running text of the article as:
:Lorem ipsum{{fake ref|1}} dolor sit amet.
and displays under '''References''' as:
: 1. ^ Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac ↗". ''Ask a Question''. Canon Inc. 2022. Retrieved 2022-04-02.
If you've already entered one or more bare urls ↗ to an article, there are tools available to expand them into full citations; try the reFill tool ↗, which can resolve some bare references semi-automatically.
Once again, thanks for adding references to articles, and to avoid future link rot ↗, please consider supplementing your bare URLs—creating full, inline citations with title, author, date, publisher, etc. More information can be found at Wikipedia:Inline citation ↗s. Thank you. <!-- Template:Uw-bareurl --> Dormskirk (talk) 14:51, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Serco Marine Services
Hello IBrock, in your recent extensive edits, seeking to improve the List of ships ↗, I am afraid that you have inadvertently introduced some new problems. May I suggest that you just pause such edits. In particular, you are expressing the tonnage of ships in tonnes ↗ (a metric measure of mass/weight) where the figures themselves are for gross tonnage ↗ (a unit-less measurement derived from volume). You will see that the figures taken from MarineTraffic are there clearly shown as, for example for ''SD Reliable'', "Gross Tonnage: 271". If the figures were for deadweight tonnage ↗ or displacement ↗ tonnes might be appropriate.
As some of your added references are used multiple times, you might like to have a look at WP:NAMEDREFS ↗, which shows how repeated identical references list can be simplified.
It is, though, disappointing that, despite two earlier requests to avoid adding "bare URLs", you continue to do so, rather than using the available reference templates.
It's nothing to worry about - just a learning curve - and, like rainbows, they never end. Davidships (talk) 23:51, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

Proposed deletion ↗ of :List of active Argentine Navy aircraft ↗
left|link=|alt=Notice|48px| ↗
The article :List of active Argentine Navy aircraft ↗ has been proposed for deletion ↗ because of the following concern:
<blockquote>'''There is already an article listing all (current+historic) aircraft of the Argentine Navy (List of aircraft of Argentine Naval Aviation) and an article listing the current aircraft of the Argentine Navy (Argentine Naval Aviation). Thus this (List of active Argentine Navy aircraft) article is useless and out of date. It should be deleted. Some of the content might be good to incorporate into (List of aircraft of Argentine Naval Aviation)'''</blockquote>
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons ↗.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary ↗ or on the article's talk page ↗.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process ↗, but other deletion process ↗es exist. In particular, the speedy deletion ↗ process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion ↗ allows discussion to reach consensus ↗ for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> El Roih (talk) 21:55, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = You have recently edited a page related to '''the Balkans or Eastern Europe''', a topic designated as '''''contentious ↗'''''. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and <em>does <strong>not</strong> imply that there are any issues with your editing</em>.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as ''contentious topics''. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee ↗. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators ↗ have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit <strong>carefully and constructively</strong>, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia ↗;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines ↗;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system ↗.
<p>Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics ''procedures'', you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard ↗ or you may learn more about this contentious topic here ↗. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{tl|Ctopics/aware}} template. </p>}}<!-- Derived from Template:Contentious topics/alert/first --> TylerBurden (talk) 18:17, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Improving reliability of sources
Hi @IBrock! I saw on Northern Fleet ↗, List of active Russian Navy ships ↗, and a few other articles that you've added a number of citations to self-published sources such as russianfleetanalysis.blogspot.com and sources that have previously been discussed as unreliable or questionable, such as Military Watch Magazine (see WP:SOURCEGUIDE ↗), Navy Recognition (see WP:ARMYRECOGNITION ↗), and Tass (see WP:TASS ↗). I'd encourage reviewing your sources and removing information that isn't available from reliable sources. You may find it helpful to install Meta:Cite Unseen ↗ to help you quickly identify sources to clean up. Thanks! Dreamyshade (talk) 00:00, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
:Hello, I try to review sources for reliability. Where an author of a blog spot is widely interviewed on mainstream sites, his/her blog is likely reliable. The information presented by Tass, or any Russian source, obviously needs to be carefully considered before being included. However, where a possibly biased source incorporates information that either is not in its own interest to present or is of neutral impact (example dealing with history for instance), then it is likely more credible. So I will keep all of this in mind. IBrock (talk) 13:23, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
Request for input on “active ships” definition
Hi, I noticed your revert on the List of active Royal Navy ships page regarding HMS Richmond. I’ve started a discussion on the article talk page about how “active” should be defined (commissioned status vs operational status).
I’d appreciate your input there so we can reach a clear consensus on the inclusion criteria. Thanks. ~2026-34338-33 ↗ (talk) 10:31, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for June 26
An automated process has detected that when you recently edited History of the Russian Navy ↗, a link pointing to the disambiguation page Charles Napier ↗ was added.

National varieties of English
25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello. In a recent edit to the page :Future of the Royal Navy ↗, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English ↗ in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English ↗. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English ↗. For something related to another English-speaking country ↗, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the ''first'' author of the article used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style ↗. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk ↗. ''You used American English spelling ("favor") on a British English article; just use the correct variant please.'' <!-- Template:uw-engvar --> Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 22:11, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
:Yes, I missed that. Thanks for letting me know. IBrock (talk) 19:15, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
