Introduction to contentious topics
{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = You have recently edited a page related to ''' post-1978 Iranian politics''', a topic designated as '''''contentious ↗'''''. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and <em>does <strong>not</strong> imply that there are any issues with your editing</em>.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as ''contentious topics''. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee ↗. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators ↗ have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit <strong>carefully and constructively</strong>, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia ↗;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines ↗;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system ↗.
<p>Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics <em>procedures</em>, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard ↗ or you may learn more about this contentious topic ↗. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{tl|Ctopics/aware}} template. </p>}}<!-- Derived from Template:Contentious topics/alert/first --> signed, '''''Rosguill''''' ''talk'' 22:30, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Unreliable sources on Portal:Current events
25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello, I'm NetSysFire. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that in one of your recent contributions ↗ to :Portal:Current events/2026 June 26 ↗, you cited a link to a source that may not be reliable ↗. Sources considered unreliable should generally not be used to support statements. Information from an unreliable source can be challenged by other editors and removed. Reliable sources are generally those with a reputation for fact-checking and editorial oversight. Self-published material ↗, user-generated content ↗, and certain other outlets such as blogs, wikis, personal websites, and websites or publications with a poor reputation for fact-checking may not meet these standards. If you are unsure about which sources are appropriate, there is a list of sources ↗ that are considered generally reliable. Additionally, some WikiProjects have their own lists ↗ of sources that are considered reliable for that particular subtopic. If you are still unsure about a source's reliability, you can ask at the reliable sources noticeboard ↗. The edits in question: 1361238556 ↗, 1361239504 ↗ and 1361124674 ↗. AA is considered an unreliable source, see WP:AAPOLITICS ↗. While Arab News is not one of the frequently discussed sources on WP:RSP ↗, it suffers from similar problems as AA and the consensus appears to be "use with caution, likely unreliable on matters of interest to the Saudi government" ↗ as it is not an independent source and influenced by the Saudi government.<!-- Template:uw-unreliable --> NetSysFire (talk) 14:19, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
