Portal:Brussels

Hi @Jason Lagos,

I think it could be useful to create a portal of all thing Brussels a bit like Portal:London ↗ (There used to be one but it was deleted as it was abandoned early on and was missing a lot of stuff). This is quite a big job and I was wondering if you could help me with this endeavor. As I see you are quite active on the Brussels side of Wikipedia.

Don't hesitate to asked me more questions of you have them.

Have a nice day,

JhowieNitnek. Jhowie_Nitnek (talk) 19:58, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

:Hi again Jhowie and thanks for your proposal. Although I would be more than happy to support your efforts, I would be cautious about attempting this. Not only is portal creation a big endeavour, as you mentioned, but Wikipedia is actually quite strict about portal maintenance and traffic. In short, the creation of portals should be limited to topics that will garner significant interest and dedicated maintainers, to prevent their removal. I can only imagine that the failure to meet those requirements was the reason why the old Brussels portal was abandoned and merged into Portal:Belgium ↗. Wishing you a good night, too! Jason Lagos (talk) 22:17, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted

right|80px ↗
Hi Jason Lagos, I just wanted to let you know that I have <span class="plainlinks">added ↗</span> the autopatrolled user right ↗ to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed ↗. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested ↗ on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers ↗.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject ↗ templates, stub tags ↗, categories ↗, and incoming links ↗ to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies ↗, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller ↗ yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! —Femke 🐦 (talk) 19:52, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

:Hi Femke and many thanks for the approval! Jason Lagos (talk) 00:46, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

An error in the article on Paul Hankar

Hi Jason, I noticed a strange text in both English and French articles on Paul Hankar: "From 1879 to '''1904''', he worked in the studio of the prominent architect Henri Beyaert". But Paul Hankar died in 1901 and Beyaert in 1894... I looked at the edit history and found that on 5 February 2022 you took this text from the article Art Nouveau in Brussels and then in 2024 it was copied into the French version by someone and then it spread all over the internet. According to https://brussels.en-academic.com/331/Hankar%2C_Paul-Jean-Joseph the correct year would be 1894, so probably just a typo that unfortunately spread. I could try to fix it myself wherever I find it or maybe you could deal with it as a much more experienced Wikipedian? Marassa (talk) 06:47, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

:Hi Marassa,
:Thank you for noticing this! It does indeed look like a typo from the original poster. No worries — I will correct it on the English/French articles and everywhere necessary. Jason Lagos (talk) 15:45, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

CBR Building Height

Hi Jason, I noticed you added the height of the CBR Building at 31.46 meters a few years ago ↗. None of the citations seem to contain this figure; I know it's been a while, but do you remember where you might have come across it? I'm not familiar with public records in Belgium, but is it possible there's a government database somewhere? Sockwell162 (talk) 04:29, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

:Hi Sockwell162 and thank you for your message.
:I must have translated it from the French Wikipedia article ↗, which used Emporis ↗' database as its source. That source is now dead, but you can still search the archived version ↗. If you scroll down to the "Technical Data" section, you will see the "Height (estimated)" as 103.21 ft. I am not aware of any government database as such, but I did find the building's official designation procedure ↗ from 2016, which lists the total height (on page 3) as "30 metres". A further online search yielded a second source ↗ listing the height as ≈31,50 m, but as that platform is a collaborative effort, it would not meet Wikipedia's reliability criteria. I hope this helps! Jason Lagos (talk) 13:54, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
::This is excellent, thank you! I am building a model of the building for an architecture course. I also found this source ↗, which is linked on the historical register's entry ↗ that lists the height as 30 meters, including the mechanical floor. Sockwell162 (talk) 20:42, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

Help please.

Can you take a look at the Sestry Feldman draft page please. I had another editor help with reviewing it he said it looked good but he didn't have permissions to approve it. I would appreciate another set of eyes to review it. I noticed you moved their mural paragraph to a more relevant page so I thought maybe you can help. Thanks. <nowiki>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sestry_Feldman#Philanthropy</nowiki> Justin.white01 (talk) 00:20, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

:I am not a new page patroller ↗, so your draft will need to be reviewed by another editor (this can sometimes take a few weeks). Best of luck! Jason Lagos (talk) 07:37, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

{{unblock reviewed|accept=Per below. asilvering (talk) 17:18, 4 March 2026 (UTC)|1=Hi Asilvering, I just noticed that you blocked me. I am quite taken aback by this, as I have never misused my accounts. Bernard Lee and Jason Lagos are two separate accounts that never interact with one another and cover different subject matters. I use the Jason Lagos account for all my edits on Brussels, for which I have autopatrolled rights. Bernard Lee is used for my other (rare) edits and for uploading pictures, hence the distinction. There may have been some overlap when I first joined Wikipedia, but not for years. In no case has there been any intention of sockpuppetry or circumventing policies from my part. In fact, I was planning to stop using Bernard Lee completely, and I have not posted anything using that account for nearly a month, and certainly not since receiving your notice. I therefore kindly ask you to remove this block. Jason Lagos (talk) 20:23, 3 March 2026 (UTC)}} Jason Lagos (talk) 20:23, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
:I am not at all sure why you are taken aback by this, since I left a warning on your talk page, which you simply removed, without responding to it or disclosing the connections between your accounts. I will happily unblock both on the condition that the connection between the two accounts is clearly disclosed on their userpages. -- asilvering (talk) 03:34, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
::I feel like I am being punished for not having responded to you... I think the indefinite block is indeed excessive, as there was no risk of damage or disruption to Wikipedia. I failed to add those connections, and I removed your message because I did not think it would be relevant for the reasons I mentioned (my mistake). I apologise and will rectify this. I believe it is fair to say that the quality of my edits over the years has been beyond reproach and that my good faith is obvious and proven. Jason Lagos (talk) 04:47, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
:::I am not at all sure why this has come as such a surprise; the template message clearly raises blocks as a possible outcome and states "Please disclose these accounts." unambiguously. If you have any suggestions for how to make that more clear, they'd be welcome at Template talk:uw-agf-sock ↗.
:::I would happily unblock both accounts and let you get back to regular editing, provided that you clearly disclose the connections between them on your userpages. -- asilvering (talk) 11:48, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
::::That a seasoned editor with 8 years' experience and 40,000+ edits across Wikipedia is blocked indefinitely for an honest oversight, whereas a new user engaging in disruptive editing receives multiple warnings and is usually given a temporary block? Yes, I think this may need some fine-tuning... Anyway, I would like to add the requested clarifications, but the block is literally preventing me from editing the userpages. Jason Lagos (talk) 13:47, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
:::::All I needed was a promise to do so, so I'll unblock both accounts now. Cheers. -- asilvering (talk) 17:18, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
