Vidin rebellion, 1876
Hello Jingiby, hope you're well. I was wondering if you knew anything about this rebellion https://www.bta.bg/bg/news/lik/1109661-vastanieto-vav-vidinsko-prez-yuni-1876-g-e-prodalzhenie-na-aprilskoto-i-svidete ↗ https://bg.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9D%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%B5%D0%BB%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%BE_%D0%B2%D1%8A%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B5 ↗ https://ris.org.rs/rascoala-timoceana/ ↗. Seems like a very understudied event, the Bulgarian Wikipedia article being essentially an obvious copypaste from somewhere else. It catches my interest since it involved Romanians (according to the third link, it took place in 18 villages in the Vidin area, 14 being majority Romanian https://i0.wp.com/rgnpress.ro/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/30_localitatile_din_timocul_bulgaresc_2.jpg ↗).
I haven't been able to find many sources in Romanian, though there are a few. Are there in Bulgarian? Do you think it's enough to make the article notable? If so, I might write about this someday. Maybe we could even do a joint draft, if you'd be interested (but that would not be soon). According to the third link, 800 local rebels were massacred. I'd be surprised if such an event would not have enough sources covering it. I'd be interested in knowing your opinion on the topic's notability. :Hi, to be honest, I don't know anything more about this issue. As far as I understand, the local uprising was encouraged by the Serbian-Turkish War (1876–1877) ↗ and the April Uprising of 1876 ↗, which actually broke out in May, despite its name. Jingiby (talk) 04:27, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
