1872–73 FA Cup ↗: Difference between revisions

Hi Jones44444, good afternoon.

Sorry for modifying the 1872-73 FA Cup page, but I'm doing a study with all the results I've been able to gather from various football database sites and I started with the oldest ones. If you want, I won't modify it and we can leave it as you see fit, but there’s a discrepancy between the actual result and the one you mentioned, or at least from where I got the information. On the sites, there are versions that may differ, but since I check between 7 and 9 sources, I rely on the data that appears most often.

In this case, I think the match ended 1-0 in favor of South Norwood, but it wasn't finished due to protests from the captain of Windsor Home Park. It was eventually annulled, so neither team qualified (I wouldn’t bold either one) and regardless of the result, which wouldn’t be valid whether it was 1-0 or 0-1, the match was replayed later.

I have translated the page into Catalan and modified the Spanish one so that they would have the same results.

I leave the English page in your hands; I don’t want to interfere with other people’s work, but if you need help including more data, please let me know without any hesitation. I’m not sure if you’re also working on the following seasons, as I will be translating them into Catalan and correcting them in Spanish. I will make the changes on the following English pages, unless you ask me not to redo them, leaving the discrepancy commented on as you see it should be reflected.

:Hello Jomateixhao, Thank you for your work and dedication in ensuring Wikipedia information is correct. I have reviewed my source information again from British Newspaper Archive i.e. newspaper coverage of the game in the Field, Morning Advertiser, Bell's Life in London, Berkshire Chronicle and Sportsman publications. Most give an unclear account of the result of the game which is not helped by the use of Victorian English prose. It is clear that no newspaper account has South Norwood winning the game. Both the Field and Morning Advertiser state that the Windsor Home Park win was objected to by South Norwood. The Field has the clearest account stating that the South Norwood first half 'score' was disallowed with both umpires agreed as to it being a handling infringement. It also states that the only official 'score' was achieved by Windsor Home Park in the second half. It certainly is a messy journalistic account which mirrored the game on the pitch!
