Acrow prop ↗

I see that you've gone ahead and merged this, despite there being very clear disagreement as to the virtues of merging it. Also the refs in there, from Acrow prop ↗ still don't support this new name of "Jack post". Andy Dingley (talk) 13:52, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

:Sorry about this, Andy. I clearly have to take the blame for not looking at the talk pages before merging the two articles. Both articles being quite short and marked as "stubs" I did not expect any content on the talk page at all. But now I certainly regret not having checked this. <br>
:I did look at the Google-search results and more than a million entries for Jack post versus around 80.000 for Acrow prop. My understanding was that an Acrow prop is a subtype of Jack post but I am not a native speaker and admittedly do not have a full grasp of the subtle differences between American and British terminology. But I thought I'd do Acrow prop justice by moving all content and references and making Acrow prop a paragraph of its own. <br>
:Now I cannot find the talk page of the former Jack post article so I assume there was no content yet and the software moved the Acrow prop content over automatically. <br>
:I appreciate that you did not reverse the merger right away. This would most likely have happened in the German Wikipedia which I mostly work on. But I naturally would not object I you decide that the merger should better be undone. KaiKemmann (talk) 17:21, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

Sewage farm

In response to your recent question on my talk page about the preference for arid climates: Agricultural application of an engineering mass balance ↗ is called a water balance ↗. The system is defined as the land growing crops. Water inputs to the system are sewage plus precipitation. Water outputs from the system are evaporation into the atmosphere, percolation into the soil, conversion to plant mass, transpiration from the plants to the atmosphere, and surface runoff. From a sanitary engineering perspective, optimum system performance is obtained when surface runoff is minimized, because runoff will carry sewage pathogens and pollutants into natural waterways. Residential sewage production (and input into the system) is expected to be relatively constant and percolation capacity is similarly constant unless the ground freezes; but plant growth, transpiration, and evaporation will vary with temperature and humidity. Arid climates are preferred because precipitation of sufficient intensity to cause runoff will cause pollution of the natural watercourses receiving that runoff. Arid climates seldom receive enough precipitation to cause runoff, so an engineer can measure evaporation, percolation, and plant uptake to determine the amount of land required to use the expected rate of sewage production. Thewellman (talk) 15:53, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
:I have a few comments about the changes you made and those you have proposed for subject article:

::Thank you, Thewellman. Again I will transfer our conversation to the sewage farm talk page ↗ and answer there to keep everything at one place for further reference. --KaiKemmann (talk) 10:21, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Dab page style

Thank you for creating the dab page at Water channel ↗. There are a few things that make dabs different from articles, summarized on WP:DDD ↗; in particular, the ambiguous target page should be the ''first'' and ''only'' link in each entry, and it should be at the start of the entry if possible. Thanks! —<u>swpb</u> ↗''T'' ↗ 15:55, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Buttered cats

I'm curious about sources you may have found for this comment ↗ you made.

I can personally attest that 1 meter is sufficient height for a cat to right itself in midair. My friend's cat also didn't seem to mind being dropped on a mattress a couple of times, but had no problem landing on its feet if dropped with its back initially facing downward. ~Anachronist <small>(talk)</small> 23:49, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

:Thanks for your question, Anachronist.
:I found the 3 metres specification in several German sources. None of them scientific though. Two examples are https://books.google.de/books?id=o4eGCwAAQBAJ&lpg=PA276&dq=stellreflex%20katze%20meter&hl=de&pg=PA276#v=onepage&q=stellreflex%20katze%20meter&f=false ↗ and http://physik.uibk.ac.at/04-05/erde/uebungen/Katze/fallen.html ↗
:The German sources usually say: when falling from below three meters there is not time for the cat to complete the whole manoeuvre (involving a complex set of successive movements).
:Falling from 30 cm probably gives the cat just enough time to rapidly turn its front feet towards the ground while its back part is still twisted upwards.
:I would welcome it if you would want to add this distinction to the article. Maybe also in "Cat righting reflex ↗" where I did hide this statement from sight ↗ as well. (The outcome will certainly be better if you do it as I am not a native speaker.)
:thank you for your effort,

the article on internal energy

Dear KaiKemmann, I have had a further look at the article. It has attracted many editors, and is quite long, often rather technical, and to a degree unstructured. The task of fixing it is large and not to be attempted in one shot. Let’s do it bit by bit. Perhaps you have concerns with particular passages that you can point to.
