Question from WASHINGTON CHITIZA (09:12, 10 June 2026)

Hello Kingsif,

Thank you for being my mentor. I am new to Wikipedia editing and would like to learn how to properly create and improve articles, especially in technology, business, and education topics.

Kind regards,
Washington Chitiza
WASHINGTON CHITIZA (talk) 09:12, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hi, the most important thing is to read other articles first, especially within the topic area. When adding to a pre-existing article, it may need re-writing but if just tweaking or expanding, articles should look like they were written as a whole and matching what exists is key. Question from Rusticojose23 (07:15, 16 June 2026)

Hello and good day,

I was assigned to you as a mentee, you my mentor :)

I'm basically confined to my home, and have decided to start making use of my time productively and contribute a little to keep the world informed accurately about events, things about the world, etc.

How do I go about editing a page that show factual error and fallacious content?

Then how do I create citations to back up and give credence to corrective revisions I made?

And do I then need to accomplish a report and send it to Wiki, so that the previous edit's source get flagged and warned, or whatever it is Wiki has in place to keep the place accurate and truthful as possible?

I apologise for all the questions, I just need to know what's expected of me when I contribute to Wiki.

Thanks,

Your "Padawan" :) --Rusticojose23 (talk) 07:15, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

:Thanks for wanting to contribute! Those are some good questions. You can see above for my biggest tip being reading other articles, and whichever one you're reading, so you can work to make sure your edits are cohesive. If you're concerned about errors, then there's simple removal and there's editing to update. You would just edit the page and make whichever kind of correction is needed and, if adding new information, add a citation to source the information now presented - leaving an edit reason to advise whether wrong or out of date. You can see Help:Citations quick reference ↗ guide for the different kinds of citations that may be present in an article and how to create them. These come after punctuation (or before a space) on Wikipedia.
:No reporting or anything for incorrect information, but if you notice a good faith editor frequently including factual errors you may want to leave them a talkpage message to tell them to consult sources better. Vandal editors are generally easy to notice and should be warned as such. If you believe there are books, websites, other publications that contain incorrect information but frequently replicated on Wikipedia, you may want to check if it is already listed at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources ↗. WikiCup 2026 July newsletter

The third round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 June at 23:59 (UTC). As a reminder, good article nomination reviews ↗ now receive 10 points, while peer reviews ↗, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews ↗, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 3 will advance to round 4 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 3 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; eight scored over 500; and thirteen scored over 300. The top three contestants had at least one featured article ↗ (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 3 can be seen here ↗. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 7 featured-topic articles, 117 good articles, 74 good-topic articles and more than 30 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 13 In the News ↗ articles, and they have conducted nearly 180 reviews. The tournament points table ↗ has been updated.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 June but before the start of Round 4 can be claimed in Round 4. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send ↗. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:49, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from Nephele Weiss (18:29, 1 July 2026)

Hi Kingsif, my question is not about editing, it's about asking a question. I just asked a question about a Wikipedia article and I was prompted to open a Wikipedia account (which I just did). So will my question be forwarded to the people who wrote the Wikipedia article? And will I get an email if and when my question is answered? Thanks for your help. --Nephele Weiss (talk) 18:29, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

:No? And no you won't get an email in reply. Generally, you're operating on 2 quite significant misunderstandings: Wikipedia doesn't use email and articles don't have distinct authors. If the question has appeared on the article talkpage, if someone replies, they may or may not ping your account, but keep checking in case they don't. Kingsif (talk) 04:33, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

AfC for submission

Dear Kingsif,

I recently submitted an article for review and publication on Wikipedia.

I received an email regarding questions of CoI which i responded to and asked for more clarity and guidance. I am yet to receive any. But I received an email again yesterday with you as my mentor.

Appreciate your kind attention to my matter and support with the AfC.

Thank you in advance for your support.

best,
Nima ~2026-37564-75 ↗ (talk) 07:15, 3 July 2026 (UTC) — Preceding comment added by Nima CIMMYT (talkcontribs ↗) 07:15, 3 July 2026 (UTC) (original signature ↗ removed while fixing wiki markup ↗ errors)

:1. You clearly have a conflict of interest. A simple google search shows you (surname beginning with C) as a multi-year promotions-related employee of the person you are making an article for. COIs must be declared, and you may not be allowed to edit such articles. The subject certainly wouldn't be.
:2. You got a talkpage message, which outlined the steps you must take. No emails, no reply expected.
:3. The AfC subject is non-notable and the draft is not going to be accepted as an article. I suggest you tell your boss he's not notable enough for Wikipedia and to direct promotional efforts elsewhere.
:4. Mentorship is not designed to advocate for you, but to help if you want points for improving edits. In this regard, I'll also tell you it's a poorly written draft that even if notable and non-COI hopefully wouldn't be accepted in its current state. Kingsif (talk) 20:28, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

You're invited to the Mentorship noticeboard

Hi, Kingsif. You are cordially invited to the brand new Wikipedia:Mentorship noticeboard ↗. I get the impression sometimes that we mentors are each toiling in our own cubbyhole or hamster wheel, quietly answering mentee questions with little to no interaction with other mentors. I think we have a lot to share and learn from each other, and I know it will make me feel better just having the opportunity to interact with you and other mentors there, and I hope it will for you, too. Look forward to seeing you there! Mathglot (talk) 06:56, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Reaction on your comment

Hi Kingsif,

I see you undid my removal about Ona Batlle and Lucy Bronze being partners. Let me explain why i removed your contribution. Like i said in the small comment section. Lucy nor Ona has confirmed their suspected relationship. Yes i've seen their social media and that content might suggested it is true but Lucy Bronze doesnt want to discuss her private life with press or anybody else. And that was my reasoning to remove your contribution. When and if one of them does confirm the alleged relationship, than it is something that should be on here.

And i would like to address the fact that you went straight for the homophobic comment. Well i have been out and proud for more than 30 years. I was one of the founding members of Act Up Netherlands in 1990. Act up has its own wikipedia page, you might want to take a look at it.

Maybe i should have reached out to you before i removed your edit. In hindsight i probably should have. Apologies for that. Spanniellunatic (talk) 08:21, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
