Help with mapping

Hey Kodning, I am the one who made The map on the tallest buildings in Iowa. I'm trying to figure out how to make an official map. To show all the high rises and the skyscrapers. It's a bit difficult, It's my first time doing this. is it OK if you can help me with it Shrimperpepper! (talk) 02:12, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

: {{Reply to|Shrimperpepper!}} Hello! Is there something specific you needed help with? It looks like you were on the right track.
: Instead of using a mapframe tag directly, you might want to see the Template:OSM Location map ↗ template. This is the template that related pages on tallest buildings seem to use. I recommend you take a look at the sources for the pages List of tallest buildings in New York City ↗ and List of tallest buildings in Chicago ↗; these are good articles, and they have pleasing maps – including colors and dates.
: As a side note, since you're experimenting, I recommend you make edits in your personal sandbox ↗. That way, you can freely learn and test without disturbing the real article (and potentially run into trouble with the recent changes patrol ↗!). Once you're satisfied with the map you've created on your sandbox, you can then copy it over to the actual article.
: If anything was unclear, or if you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Kodning 🌸 (talk) 02:38, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
::(By sources, I meant the "Edit Sources" button instead of the page's references/citations. Sorry for the poor wording.) Kodning 🌸 (talk) 03:31, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
::It seems like the tallest buildings in Iowa is missing something like when I look at the Omaha wiki page for the tallest buildings in Omaha. There's a lot that shows like the history of the buildings and where they are like on the map of the sea and I think that would be pretty cool to see on that page. Shrimperpepper! (talk) 20:52, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
:::{{Reply To|Shrimperpepper!}}
:::I agree, it would look cool! The page for Omaha ↗ also uses the {{Template:OSM Location map ↗<nowiki />}} template to create the maps, so I recommend you learn how to use that template. That way, you can use the Omaha page (and the others I listed above) as inspiration for creating your own maps; you can use the "Edit" and "Edit Sources" buttons on those articles to see the details of those maps – be careful not to leave accidental edits on those pages, though.
:::I'm not an expert on creating maps, so you might get better help if you ask your map-creation questions at the '''teahouse ↗'''. Someone more familiar with map creation might see your question there and give better guidance.
:::Also, I strongly suggest you do your testing in your sandbox ↗. You can learn about sandboxes here ↗. You accidentally disrupted the Iowa page with your recent edits, so the edits were reverted; once you create a good-looking map in your sandbox, you can copy it from your sandbox to the Iowa page for tallest buildings.
:::Thank you – Kodning 🌸 (talk) 21:20, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
::::All right, I'll try to figure out the map but what else would you like me to add to this wiki page? Shrimperpepper! (talk) 21:57, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
:::::@Shrimperpepper! What you add is up to you – be bold ↗! You could make sure the page is up to date, find more sources ↗, and so on.
:::::If you don't mind branching out, you can do some newcomer tasks, which are visible on your Special:Homepage ↗; these will help you practice editing. You can also find things to do at the Task Center ↗. Kodning 🌸 (talk) 22:26, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
:::::@Shrimperpepper! I've added a welcome message to your talk page. It has some helpful links. Happy editing! Kodning 🌸 (talk) 22:30, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from Sg1ty5oi8p (04:09, 14 May 2026)

Hello! Thank you for giving me the ability to edit. It is surprising that you have done so. I have many important facts about many people from Wikipedia that I rely on. Really, I don’t see yet where I would have the ability to change anything I see on Wikipedia. All the people and events I see there were remote from me.

Most of what I see involves crimes against humanity and me. I have information from Wikipedia about people like Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Mike Sievert and Girmay Zahilay. All these people went to the Wharton School of Business with the University of Pennsylvania Quakers, according to Wikipedia. My father also briefly attended the Wharton School.

On a more positive note, my uncle John Presper Eckert Jr., whom I never knew while he was alive, also attended the University of Pennsylvania, and I happen to know that my uncle suffered psychiatric abuse at their hands. Do you know about the “Aresty” Institute at the Wharton School?

So, it is nice to meet you! Thank you for allowing me to join Wikipedia!

Robert James Gray --Sg1ty5oi8p (talk) 04:09, 14 May 2026 (UTC)

:{{Reply to|Sg1ty5oi8p}} Welcome to Wikipedia!
:I'm not familiar with the Aresty Institute. Even so, I'm glad you've found this website helpful. I've left a Welcome message on your talk page; it has some links you may find helpful. If you're interested in editing, here is a helpful '''Introduction ↗''' that will teach you the basics.
:Wikipedia is a big place, so if you're unsure of where (or how) you can contribute, your Homepage ↗ provides some Suggested Edits (also called Newcomer Tasks). These are straightforward recommendations that will give you the opportunity to practice editing, even if you're not familiar with the article you're being asked to edit. You can find a more broad list of suggestions at the Task Center ↗.
:If you ever have questions, feel free to ask me just like you did. You can also ask questions at the Teahouse ↗, where all Wikipedia editors are free to answer, not just me.
:It's nice to meet you. And be bold ↗! Thanks – Kodning 🌸 (talk) 05:13, 14 May 2026 (UTC)

Question from Maragoni Sons (14:22, 14 May 2026)

Hello Kodning, This is Raj.

I am new to Wiki. I want to publish a Wikipedia Page for Maragoni Sons. Please have a look on the page and let me know if I am missing, and provide me suggestions. --Maragoni Sons (talk) 14:22, 14 May 2026 (UTC)

:Hello, @Maragoni Sons!
:It looks like you want to write an article about yourself or an organization you are part of. This is a conflict of interest ↗ which means you'll be subject to stricter rules and expectations when editing the article. Unfortunately, it looks like you were given an indefinite block ↗ due this type of editing. {{Diff|User_talk:Rajesh_Maragoni|prev|1354134128}} I'll provide some information regardless, in case your block is ever lifted.
:To start, I recommend you visit Introduction ↗ to get an introduction to editing Wikipedia; this page will go over all the basics. Then, you'll want to read Your first article ↗ to get an idea of what goes into creating an article, from gathering sources to drafting to publishing. Note that article creation is one of the more difficult tasks on Wikipedia, so you are encouraged to make simpler edits to gain experience; your Homepage ↗ has some suggestions.
:Also, there is a plain and simple guide ↗ that goes over how to edit while you have a conflict of interest. Since you are a new user and have a conflict of interest, you will need to go through the Articles for creation ↗ process to create your article.
:If you need any clarifications or have other questions, feel free to ask me or at the Teahouse ↗. Hopefully this helps – Kodning 🌸 (talk) 21:42, 14 May 2026 (UTC)

Question from Cut Copper Slab (23:21, 3 June 2026)

Hi! It was super cool how organized you were able to make the article for The Dreaming; are there any resources for how to clean up citations like that and/or find things like trailing spaces at the end of lines? --<span style="color:#9f4d2d !important">Cut Copper Slab 🀱</span> 23:21, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hello – thank you for asking about citations! Some editors are fine with bare URLs and incorrectly-filled citation templates, as you've probably seen... so thanks for your help ↗ so far! If you like citation cleanup, you might be interested in joining WikiProject Citation cleanup ↗; the gnomes ↗ that inhabit the project aren't the most talkative, but the project has some useful links and pages. You don't have to join, of course – membership is more of a symbol and doesn't grant you any new rights or responsibilities.
:Anyways, to answer your questions: my citation cleanup is a mix of manual and automated approaches.
:* Manual cleanup is for simple fixes and more tricky stuff (like cleaning shortened footnotes ↗, as I did on the Dreaming page). Bots and tools, while helpful, can't do all the work, especially when it comes to verifying information. Doing some manual work first can make bots and tools more effective.
:* Automated tools are your friend! While manual edits can be therapeutic at times, they can be a timesink. This page ↗ has a list of useful tools. My favorites are Citer ↗, CitationBot ↗, and User:Polygnotus/DuplicateReferences. Some people like ProveIt ↗.
:For example, you cleaned bare URLs ↗ (Citer can help), and I followed up with CitationBot ↗. The bot fixed tedious things like MOS:CURLY ↗ and tracking down doi/jstor links. The bot can sometimes fix bare URLs too, but it can be hit or miss depending on the link.
:When cleaning, make sure you follow the article's established style ↗. If the style is unclear or all over the place, then pick your favorite and reformat the page to use it. Some people (almost all editors) prefer the usual {{mxt|<ref>}} style with a References section; others prefer shortened footnotes ↗ with Notes, Citations, and References/Sources sections. The former is easier to use and friendlier for bots, and the latter is cleaner. Whatever floats your boat&nbsp;–&nbsp;except the awful parenthetical referencing style ↗.
:I also recommend visiting your Gadgets ↗ settings. There are some useful ones (Twinkle ↗, Citation expander ↗, ProveIt ↗, XTools ↗). Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any tools for finding trailing spaces.
:'''TL;DR''' sometimes it's as easy as having tools and bots do the heavy lifting; other times, you'll need to get dirty (''cough'', verification). It's a very mechanical process once you get used to it. The editor's template button helps insert templates without having to remember all of the parameters.
:To make my long answer even longer, here's some easy reading:
:* WP:CQR ↗
:* WP:INTREF ↗
:* WP:INTREFVE ↗
:* H:AAS ↗
:Welcome to the boring-yet-essential world of citation cleanup! Kodning 🌸 (talk) 00:33, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
:If you like copyediting, it might also be worth checking out Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors ↗. Happy editing – Kodning 🌸 (talk) 08:07, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
::Awesome! Thanks so much for responding :D <span style="color:#9f4d2d !important">Cut Copper Slab 🀱</span> 10:50, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from Cut Copper Slab (23:35, 6 June 2026)

Hello! I just expanded an article from a stub in my userspace drafts, but I changed the title of the article slightly. Instead of updating the title of the article (since I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do that) I submitted it to AfC. Was that the right thing to do or should I just update the original article?
Original article: Tokyo Wild Bird Park ↗
My draft: Draft:Tokyo_Port_Wild_Bird_Park ↗ --<span style="color:#9f4d2d !important">Cut Copper Slab 🀱</span> 23:35, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hello! Since the page already exists, I'd say it's better to update the original. I'm not sure if AfC treats rewrites differently, but AfC is primarily for creating new articles. If you do copy the draft onto the original page, I suggest mentioning it in your edit summary (something like "copied from Draft:Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park ↗").
:For renaming a page (also called moving), see this page ↗. Make sure your sources use the name you want to change to. If both the old and new names are good, consider making a redirect ↗ instead; that way, both names can refer to the same page. Kodning 🌸 (talk) 02:46, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

Thank you

For adding covert art to Extella/Link. Any chance you could do this for Fate/Extra CCC ↗? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus&#124;<span style="color:#7CFC00;background:#006400;"> reply here</span> 02:28, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
:{{done}}: Hopefully I correctly identified the characters. Kodning 🌸 (talk) 04:01, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
:Well darn, it's "BB" and not actually Sakura... Kodning 🌸 (talk) 04:03, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
::True. Plenty of lookalikes in Fate... <sub style="border:1px solid #228B22;padding:1px;">Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus&#124;<span style="color:#7CFC00;background:#006400;"> reply here</span></sub> 05:32, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
::And I don't think it matters, but Nero on the cover is in a new "Bride" outfit, which in FGO even is represented by a separate servant (link ↗) and in the Fate-messverse this can mean they a separate entity, I think :P Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus&#124;<span style="color:#7CFC00;background:#006400;"> reply here</span> 05:34, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
:PS. Any chance you could also find something for ''Fate/Extra Last Encore ↗''? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus&#124;<span style="color:#7CFC00;background:#006400;"> reply here</span> 01:38, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
::The Japanese website has some nice images.https://fate-extra-lastencore.com/special/ ↗ I don't think there's a definitive image that distributors use, so there's some flexibility. The blu-ray cover ↗ has multiple characters and represents physical media, but I also see variations of this ↗ and this ↗ be used. Any preference? Kodning 🌸 (talk) 04:05, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
::Another ↗ Kodning 🌸 (talk) 04:13, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
:::@Kodning Hard choices. The first one has male and female variants of protagonist, which is useful; second is most "pretty", third is meh, fourth has the most characters (but no female protagonist). I guess 4th is the most informative, since female protag is really a backstory kind of a thing... unless we can FURationalize more than one image in the article - but I don't think that's easy, since we don't add chraracter images to lists, for example, in my experience at least... PS. The last one has a good logo too. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus&#124;<span style="color:#7CFC00;background:#006400;"> reply here</span> 05:29, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Yeah, I agree with your thoughts. I found the last one after responding, and it seems like the best fit. I haven't watched the show, but it doesn't seem like the female protag matters much (<small>unfortunate</small>). Anyways, I've added the fourth image to the article. Kodning 🌸 (talk) 08:55, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::You are correct. She is mentioned by some reception/reviewers, her minor role is explicitly criticized by one review, so I wonder if this would allow us to justify including the first image as well? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus&#124;<span style="color:#7CFC00;background:#006400;"> reply here</span> 00:45, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::Maybe, although I find it difficult to justify. Since it's a non-free image of a cover, it would need to be {{tq|for visual identification only in the context of critical commentary of that item}} ↗. There's only one sentence about the blu-ray at the moment, so I don't think the cover image would be warranted without sufficient expansion, and the blu-ray doesn't seem remarkable enough to do so.{{pb}}For identifying the character specifically, it might be easier to justify an image that primarily focuses on her. The text would need to be expanded if possible, since her reception is coming from a single source at the moment; without expansion, I could see the image being WP:UNDUE ↗ since it would mean the only image in the body would be of a very minor character. Kodning 🌸 (talk) 01:13, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Fair. I think there are more other things to illustrate before that. Interestingly, she actually is visible in a gameplay screenshot in Fate/Extra ↗; I am honestly not sure how strong is the rationale for that image... Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus&#124;<span style="color:#7CFC00;background:#006400;"> reply here</span> 02:35, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::::I can see the screenshot having reasonable rationale since it ties into the gameplay text, and the section is modestly sized. There are video game articles that get away with more questionable screenshots, so Fate/Extra ↗ should be fine. I think the Portal 2 ↗ article is a good example of image use. You're invited to the Mentorship noticeboard

Hi, Kodning. You are cordially invited to the brand new Wikipedia:Mentorship noticeboard ↗! I get the impression that we mentors are each toiling in our own cubbyhole or hamster wheel, as the case may be, quietly answering mentee questions with little to no interaction with other mentors. I think we have a lot to learn from each other, and I know it will make me feel better just having the opportunity to interact with you and other mentors there, and I hope it will for you, too. Look forward to seeing you there! Mathglot (talk) 08:36, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
