Origin of Loyalties ethnonyms?

Greetings Kwékwlos! I noticed that you seem to know a lot about Southern Oceanic toponyms/ethnonyms in particular, so I have a question: would you happen to know the etymology of the three Loyalties linkage ethnonyms (Iaai, Drehu, Nengone)?

Thanks in advance! --ZeegoTheDeer (talk) 03:31, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

Not exactly sure, because these languages are somewhat phonetically aberrant from POc themselves, as well as difficulty in finding names for other islands/villages in these languages (eg. name of Iaai in Drehu/Nengone). Kwékwlos (talk) 06:29, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

Ah ok, was just curious, but thanks for letting me know. --ZeegoTheDeer (talk) 20:20, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi, you might be interested to know that OL is available via Project MUSE at the WP Library ↗. It's not in the basic package, so you have to apply for it separately. Hi, recently I have been editing the Akei language ↗ article and saw your addition: "The alternate name ''Tasiriki'' literally means "small water" (''tasi'' "water", ''riki'' "small")." :I inferred it from the Proto-Oceanic words ''*tasik'' "sea" + ''*riki(q,t)'' "small". Many other place names in Vanuatu contain reflexes of ''*tasik'', so it is quite reasonable to posit a meaning "small sea". Kwékwlos (talk) 22:10, 30 December 2024 (UTC)

Thomson Problem

Hi, I am mystified as to why you believe that the convex hull of the putative solution
to the Thomson problem ↗
for n=16 is the tetrahedrally diminished dodecahedron.
The line of the table where you placed this claim indicates that the convex hull has
28 triangular faces, whereas the tetrahedrally diminished dodecahedron has four
triangular and 12 quadrilateral faces. You may obtain coordinates for the
solution from the Cambridge Cluster Database ↗
and pass that through a convex hull program such as qhull to see for yourself.
The Cambridge Cluster Database also has an animated GIF of the voronoi diagram of
the solution (roughly the dual of the convex hull) which, for the half visible,
shows no 4-connected vertices which would correspond to quadrilateral faces for
the convex hull.
I hope this helps you understand my concern. --Isoaqua (talk) 21:11, 23 March 2025 (UTC)

deleting articles

deleting articles is not acceptable. it destroys the article history. i thought maybe you were a newbie and didn't know any better, but you've been here for years. if you want to move an article, make a request and give reason why. — kwami (talk) 04:10, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

::you blanked the article with the page history, and created a new article to replace it. this is disruptive. also, when your bold edits are reverted, you should take it to talk. — kwami (talk) 04:16, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

warning

30px|alt=Stop icon ↗ Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an '''edit war ↗'''; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the '''talk page ↗''' to work toward making a version that represents consensus ↗ among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done ↗. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard ↗ or seek dispute resolution ↗. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection ↗.

'''Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing ↗'''&mdash;especially if you violate the three-revert rule ↗, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts ↗ on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring&mdash;'''even if you do not violate the three-revert rule'''&mdash;should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.<!-- Template:uw-3rr --> — kwami (talk) 04:13, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello, I'm Tarl N., and welcome to Wikipedia ↗. I appreciate your contributions ↗, but in one of your recent edits&nbsp;to :Alpha Centauri ↗, it appears that you added original research ↗, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources ↗ in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source ↗ for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources ↗. ''You can't simply assert Hadar becomes the brightest star unless you have some (cited) research showing that no star near Alpha becomes brighter. It's probably true, but being uncited, you cannot say it in Wikipedia.''<!-- Template:uw-nor1 --> <b style="color:green">Tarl N.</b> (<span style="color:teal">discuss</span>) 06:59, 26 September 2025 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hi, and thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to change the title of a page by cutting its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into :Ashkun language ↗. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move ↗", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history ↗, which is legally required for attribution ↗. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be ''moved'' to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits ↗, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab ↗ at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu ↗ for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect ↗ from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves ↗ to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge ↗. Thank you. <!-- Template:uw-c&pmove --> <span style="color:#f80;font-family:'Cascadia Code',monospace">'''mwwv'''</span> <span style="color:#f80">converse</span> ↗<span style="color:#f80">edits</span> ↗ 16:47, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
