Refs
Hiya. Hope all's well. As we seem to have a few watchlist articles in common, I thought I might make a few quick suggestions on refs. Hopefully you find them helpful:
# '''Linking NMS mapping data'''. The link added in this edit ↗ opens just a "generic" map (the "homepage") of the Department of Housing, Heritage and Local Government's "Historic Environment Viewer". It doesn't link to a specific geographical area or NMS/RMP/NIAH record. If you know the record number you want to link, you can do it by passing it as a parameter as follows:
:::<code>https</code><code>://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2C{{color|red|KK026-010018-}}</code>
::(where the bit in {{color|red|red}}, "<code>KK026-010018-</code>", is the RMP entry you want to link. For example, this link (CO044-046----) ↗ is for the holy well site near Bartlemy. While this link (CO044-111----) ↗ is for the Ogham stone site nearby.
# '''Folklore Commission's "School's Collection" as reliable source'''. The Folklore Commission's "School's Collection" ↗, as published on duchas.ie, is a collection of local stories. Captured by primary school children from older people in their community in the 1940s. (Stories. From the oral tradition. Often folklore.) I personally wonder whether these can be considered reliable sources ↗. If captured today (by children or otherwise), these stories would likely be considered "user generated content ↗". At the very least, when relying on a source like this, it should possibly be made clear to the reader that what source is being relied upon for the text. For example, instead of "there was a mill at XYZ", maybe it would be better to say "according to a 1940s entry in the Irish Folklore Commission's "School's Collection" ↗, there was a mill at XYZ".
Thanks and happy editing. Guliolopez (talk) 18:13, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
::Hi. Me again. I went hunting on the maps around Bartlemy and I found what appears to be a mill (west of "Bluebell Bridge" and south of the Knoppoge River in Hollyhill townland) marked on the "Sites and Monuments Record" layer as "CO044-059---- : Mill - fulling : HOLLYHILL (Barrymore By.)" ↗. Is this the map entry/location you are referring to in this edit ↗? Guliolopez (talk) 15:21, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
:::Hi there. Yes that is correct. thank you Massingbird (talk) 04:39, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
