Central Coast Mariners FC–Sydney FC rivalry ↗ moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Central Coast Mariners FC–Sydney FC rivalry ↗, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable ↗, independent sources ↗. <small>(? ↗)</small> Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability ↗ is of central importance ↗ on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace ↗ (with a prefix of "<code>Draft:</code>" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. I did this rather than removing the uncited material in the article, which I felt would be more disruptive. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask on my talk page. In addition, there is a notability question. While there is no doubt these two teams meet, you need in-depth coverage from independent, reliable, secondary sources which talks about the rivalry, not simply mentioning it. When you have the required sourcing (and every assertion needs a source), and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi mate.
I understand it needs more referencing, I will get onto that over the next couple of days. Referencing code just isn’t my strongest point, all the statistics came from the same website database.
As for questioning the rivalry, I’d urge you to look into some of the other pages that are still up about A-League rivalries such as Western United v Wellington Phoenix and Western United v Melbourne Victory. If they are rivalries and Central Coast Mariners v Sydney FC is not, Wikipedia might as well cancel its whole A-League coverage! Particularly the Wellington Phoenix page, those clubs have basically nothing to do with each other. Not that I think it’s a bad thing that those other pages exist, I think the more detailed pages about the history of match ups between teams, the better and more detailed Wikipedia’s A-League information is.
I did put an awful lot of time into this page to make it as detailed, accurate and professional looking as possible. I’ll get onto trying to add more references over the next couple of days and re-submit, but it’s definitely an article worth having on Wikipedia. Matt jobe watson (talk) 12:42, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

:What on earth mate. I literally copied Harry Steele ↗, another Mariners player's profile. Literally copied the entire thing and just editted it to be Sasha's details.
:Kuzevski was already on the Mariners squad template, just didn't have a page because he hadn't debuted until about a week ago. His page is literally identical to several other lesser players in the Central Coast Mariners ↗ squad. See Steele, Nectarios Triantis ↗, Cameron Windust ↗, James Bayliss ↗ and Dor Jok ↗. How is my Kuzevski page any different?
:I literally provided a source to two player profiles from external sites of his, which provides all the details such as his height, date of birth and everything. There's legit nothing else on his page yet for me to even reference.
:Get a grip. Don't dis-encourage an editor who is putting in the time to keep Wikipedia up to date and accurate about a smaller topic he is passionate about. Put it back up. What a joke. Matt jobe watson (talk) 09:27, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

What are you doing mate? The point isn’t to delete them. Of course they’re notable, they’re playing in the A-League...
Why would you deliberately make the A-League have less information on Wikipedia??
Come off it mate, your role on Wikipedia is not to decide whether A-League players are notable or not, and it’s not your role to decide that the A-League should have less information about it. Matt jobe watson (talk) 11:48, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi mate,
Just wanted to know what’s up with you deleting every A-League page I try and contribute to the website? Especially the Sasha Kuzevski page, it’s literally an identical copy of about 10 other Central Coast Mariners players profiles. Literally everything is identical, I just changed the info to be Kuzevski’s, and this includes every single reference on these other approved pages. They all only have linked to player profiles on football websites, and I linked Kuzevski’s profile from these matching websites.
The A-League is not the biggest topic on Wikipedia. It has holes everywhere in it’s accuracy and information. I am one who actually takes the time to try and keep information relevant and as informative as possible. Do you just dislike the A-League, or is there some reason you don’t want more content about it on Wikipedia? Because like deleting the Sydney FC v Mariners rivalry page is stupid, given it’s all accurate information and makes Wikipedia more informative and adds to its library, but deleting the Kuzevski page is absolutely unjustified.
Please at the very least approve the Kuzevski page. I have put heaps of time and effort into keeping the Central Coast Mariners relevant pages up to date with relevant information and you keep cutting it down for no reason.
Thank you. Matt jobe watson (talk) 01:55, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

International soccer players issue
Hey Matt, at first I was opposed by your merge of Australia men's international soccer players ↗, because of the former guidelines of WP:Article size ↗, where if a certain article was at a big size (in kB), it should be split for convenience.
It was until then I realised that this guideline changed from kB size, to just the amount of words in the article, hence your edit on "List of Australia men's international soccer players ↗ being a valid edit.
Although, its bring a bit of a dilemma of how other countries player lists should be, if this is the case. FastCube (talk) 23:35, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
:Yeah, it just makes more sense to me to have it in one page. I went to the page not looking to make any edits, just for information, and it didn't give me the information I was after because it was split into four. Matt jobe watson (talk) 04:31, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion ↗ nomination of :File:Lake Macquarie City FC logo.png ↗
48px|left|alt=|link= ↗
A tag has been placed on :File:Lake Macquarie City FC logo.png ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines ↗. <!-- Template:Db-redundantimage-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> --<span style="font-family: monospace, monospace; color:#69C">Min☠︎rax</span>«¦'''talk'''¦» 11:00, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
Categories, WP:CATSPECIFIC
Please read WP:CATSPECIFIC ↗ before adding categories to articles. Generally an article need only be in the most specific category, eg Chris Payne (soccer) ↗ does not need to be in both the specific {{Cl|People from Gosford}} and its parent {{cl|People from the Central Coast (New South Wales)}}. Likewise Barton Oval ↗ does not need to be added to {{cl|Cricket grounds in Australia}} because it is already in the more specific {{cl|Cricket grounds in South Australia}} and {{cl|Test cricket grounds in Australia}}. Please stop listing every player who was delisted as "former".
Hey. There is no need to change every player who was delisted to former this quick. Plenty of players get picked up after being delisted. "Last played for" is more accurate, unless the player has announced their retirement. If they don't get picked up. No issues. But "former" straight away is jumping the gun. Basetornado (talk) 10:14, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
:It's correct until they're picked up again in the league mate. If they get picked up, then you move it back to present tense. Matt jobe watson (talk) 11:25, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
::It's far too quick. If they don't get picked up? Great. But players get picked up all the time after being delisted. Pretty much every other sport just lists them as a free agent until they retire, because "Former" means they retired. "Former professional" is retired. "Last played for" is still playing but don't have a team. Basetornado (talk) 23:51, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
:::In other sports, such as the American sports, players are contracted to the league. It's different here, players aren't contracted to the league, if you're not contracted to a club, you're a former player until you're re-drafted. Matt jobe watson (talk) 00:38, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
::::That is just not true, for either of those examples. "Former" in context of an athletes page means retired. They have not retired, they just don't have a club. You make a lot of edits. The vast majority good. These ones however are inaccurate. Just wait until the end of the trade/draft period at the very least. "Last played for" similarly to how I reverted Markov's page accurately describes the situation. Your edits do not as they stand. Basetornado (talk) 05:37, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
:::::I respectfully disagree. Thanks for the positive comment on most of my edits. I think your way, players will easily slip through the cracks and people will forget to go back and edit them. And as soon as you're not on an AFL list, you're not an active AFL player.
:::::Most players don't get the chance to retire. Jackson Hately currently plays for our VFL side, I'd still call him a former professional Australian Rules footballer. But he's never "retired" as such, and actually still plays the game! Matt jobe watson (talk) 11:45, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
::::::If they slip through, that's still better than the alternative. I initially only noticed it, because one of the players got mentioned in a footy group I was in as being listed as former and it was remarked upon as being wrong. I can agree with players who go down to the VFL/local footy etc being listed as former. That is fair enough. But if a player gets delisted and doesn't get picked up, that's the time to call them former. Not 5 minutes after they're delisted. Especially for younger players who stand a decent chance of being picked up elsewhere. It just strikes me as far too early, and in context "former" pretty much always means retired when it comes to sports pages. Basetornado (talk) 14:00, 24 September 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions to Douwtjie Hoogenboezem ↗. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing as a live article at this time because '''it needs more sources to establish notability''' and '''No significant coverage. Wait until he makes his FC/LA/T20 debut.'''.

Elijah Holland's edits.
Hey, just giving a heads up on the Elijah Hollands edit you made to expand the recent incident. I changed a bit of it and removed some text, largely because it's a fairly sensitive topic.
Most of the stuff I changed, was largely because it felt unnecessary to add. For example fans filming him. It already says he was observed acting erratically. Anything more feels ott. The game time % was not referenced at that line and the percentage mentioned was not the same as in the reference above it. No major concerns. At least not enough to warrant a talk post.
I did have a pretty major concern about one section though. You had written "The AFL and AFL Players Associaton ↗ confirmed they would seek to work with Carlton to investigate the full circumstances of the situation, including how Carlton had declared him fit to play, why he played so much game time despite his obvious struggles, and whether he may have been intoxicated by alcohol or substances." This felt very editorial and did not match with what the sources were saying. Especially on the alcohol or substances section. The AFL ref does not mention it at all. The Seven reference only mentions alcohol once due to an earlier unrelated incident. While the closest it comes to drugs or substances is "Carlton are insisting his performance was affected by a mental-health episode and did not have anything to do with the influence of drugs."
Hope this is taken in the right meaning. Just that, need to be careful on sensitive topics like this, not to include your own research or "reading between the lines", especially when it comes to allegations of drug or alcohol abuse.Basetornado (talk) 08:33, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
