Managing a conflict of interest

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello, Mfcoom. We welcome ↗ your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about ↗ on the page :Neil Spiller ↗, you may have a conflict of interest ↗ (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the '''conflict of interest guideline ↗''' and '''FAQ for article subjects ↗''' for more information. We ask that you:

Disambiguation link notification for April 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Fergus Henderson ↗, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Brian Henderson ↗. Such links are usually incorrect ↗, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. <small>(Read the FAQ{{*}} Join us at the DPL WikiProject ↗.)</small>

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 08:58, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Please do not remove maintenance templates ↗ from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to :Andrew F. 25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hi Mfcoom! I noticed that you recently made an edit and marked it as "minor", but it may not have been. On Wikipedia, "minor edit ↗" refers only to superficial edits that could never be disputed, such as fixing typo ↗s or reverting obvious vandalism ↗. Any edit that changes the <em>meaning</em> of an article is not minor, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. <!-- Template:uw-minor --> Kj cheetham (talk) 21:41, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia ↗!

It appears you may have used a large language model ↗ (LLM), such as ChatGPT, in your edits ↗. While LLMs are powerful, machine-generated text often contains serious flaws ↗. They may introduce bias ↗, errors, plagiarism ↗, libel ↗, or even hoaxes ↗. Specifically asking an LLM to "write a Wikipedia article" can sometimes cause the output to be outright fabrication ↗, complete with fictitious references ↗. Editors must verify ''all'' LLM-generated text before using it in an article. Completely LLM-generated articles may be quickly deleted ↗. If you are unsure about your wording, an alternative is to suggest it on the talk page for another volunteer to look at it. If you are creating a new article, you may use the Articles for Creation ↗ process to get feedback on your work.

As you get started editing Wikipedia, you may find the pages below to be helpful:

If you still have questions, there is the Teahouse ↗, or you can {{edit|Special:MyTalk|click here to ask a question on your talk page|section=new|preload=Help:Contents/helpmepreload|preloadtitle=Help me!}}, and someone will be along to answer it shortly. In your messages, please sign your name ↗ on talk pages using four tildes (~&#126;~~); this will automatically produce your name and a timestamp. Happy editing! {{PAGENAME}} ↗<!-- Template:Welcome-LLM --> <span class="nowrap">--G<small>urkubondinn</small> (talk)</span> 21:55, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

:Dear Gurkubondinn,
:Thank you for flagging this. I am confused about protocol, I did use chatgpt to compile a list of sources for my consultation when writing the Andrew F. Jones article and I believe a url I used contained 'source=chatgpt' in it. I imagine this is why you flagged my page with the banner. I tried to remove this tag from the referene url and then remove your banner (both of which I reported as changes) but I see that these changes have been undone. If not what I have already tried, what is the correct course of action to rectify the issue? Please let me know what I can do.
:Best,

::Remove all of the machine generated text that you have added. Once the article does not contain any machine generated text, then the {{tlx|AI-generated}} tag can be removed. <span class="nowrap">--G<small>urkubondinn</small> (talk)</span> 22:56, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
:::Dear G<small>urkubondinn</small>,
:::I have reviewed the references and edited the article to remove the chatgpt provided link, this time not removing the banner. I don't believe that any actual text has been generated by chatgpt, if you believe otherwise could you please specify.

:Dear G<small>urkubondinn</small>,
:I see you have undone my attempt to fix the reference link, would you prefer me to rewrite the section on Developmental Fairytales, perhaps with different sources? If so, I'd be happy to do so. I have also left a message on the talk page to this effect but haven't heard back from you. Let me know what you think is best,
:<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> Mfcoom (talk) 18:10, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
::I have only put the tags back, most recently in Diff/1333251908 ↗ but apparently at least once more. Was the {{slink|Andrew F. Jones|Developmental Fairytales|nopage=y}} section written by an LLM? <span class="nowrap">--G<small>urkubondinn</small> (talk)</span> 18:15, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

::::Hi,
::::Thanks for getting back to me. No, '''none''' of the text sections were actually written by an LLM, the link with a 'source=chatgpt' part was just left over from when I used an LLM to compile a list of relevant sources for me to read when researching the article; that's why I thought the tag should be removed once I replaced the URL. If you are satisfied with this explanation, then I can remove the tag. However, if you are not convinced, let me know and we can discuss further
::::Best,

Draft:Poet Laureate of Jamaica ↗

Hello @Mfcoom - it looks like your Draft:Poet Laureate of Jamaica ↗ is ok for being accepted. The slight hitch is that there is a redirect sitting on the mainspace name and clearly we need that name as the article's title. So I've applied for the redirect to be deleted, which can take a few hours up to 24 hours. I also tagged it for more sources simply because it's heavily cited to primary sources, for good reasons, and they should not be changed. To ensure the article stays in mainspace, it would be good if one or two (not many!) more secondary sources are added. I put one in, but it's a bit specific to the current incumbent. Replaceable non-free use File:Nobuko Lady Albery.png

32px|left ↗
Thanks for uploading ''':File:Nobuko Lady Albery.png ↗'''. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use ↗. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion ↗. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have ''no free equivalent''; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

# Go to the file description page ↗ and add the text {{Tlx|Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|&lt;your reason>}} '''below''' the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <code>&lt;your reason></code> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
# On the file's talk page ↗, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license ↗, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on <span class="plainlinks">[{{fullurl:Special:Contributions|target=Mfcoom&namespace=6}} this link]</span>. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy ↗. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page ↗. Thank you. <!-- Template:di-replaceable non-free use-notice -->
