Introduction to contentious topics

{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = You have recently edited a page related to ''' the Arab–Israeli conflict ↗''', a topic designated as '''''contentious ↗'''''. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as ''contentious topics''. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee ↗. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators ↗ have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Regarding Japanese War Crimes Edit

Hi @MySalsa22, I'd like to address why I made that mass revert. Per the ongoing investigation, there is a very high likelihood that the two IPs/users who made the edits are from a sockpuppeter who has been proven to push far-right, frankly very racist misinformation on Wikipedia. ↗ The investigations against them have gone back since July 2025.

Additionally, also regardless of the outcome of their edits, a lot of their edits aren't constructive, its frankly just wordplay that they do to lessen the impact of Japanese war crimes, such as equating anti-Asian racism with anti-Japanese sentiment from WWII. I personally don't have any issues with the specific edit you made, i'm not against you adding your specific edit back. Sunnyediting99 (talk) 14:31, 1 May 2026 (UTC)

:Alright, if the IPs are from someone who made disruptive edits, i wont oppose to removing them, i just thought that they didnt really "lessen the impact" (as in, atleast to me, the descriptions of the war crimes still give the idea of them being very horrible things), as for equating anti-asian racism, yeah i do personally oppose including it as an see also link, im going to remove it if nobody does it before.
:MySalsa22 (talk) 14:52, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
::Hi Salsa, thank you for your comments. I do see where youre coming from, but usually what this IP/sockpuppeter does is they use wordplay, so they insert their own agenda into the edits and mix it in with fairly innocent edits, sort of like Salami slicing ↗. I know this cause I've run into this person at least 4 times now and their editing style is very uniquely like this. Ill go back to the original format before their edits (but please, feel free to add your edit back in). Sunnyediting99 (talk) 15:01, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
:::No problem then, i kind of saw that too, most of the edits seem constructive, though he also removed a paragraph which i was about to re-add, im going to see what i can do though. MySalsa22 (talk) 15:05, 1 May 2026 (UTC)

WP:STICKTOTHESOURCE ↗

Thank you for adding the apologies by Cássio and Dudu to the 2026 Campeonato Mineiro final ↗ article. However, some of your other edits were not as reflected in the source:

# The BBC source said nothing about coaches being involved in the brawl. This is on Portuguese Wikipedia, but Wikipedia is not a reliable source because anyone can write it. Copy information from sources, not Wikipedia.
# The BBC source says military police - as does Portuguese Wikipedia, for what it's worth.
# Certain details from the spectator crimes are not mentioned in the source from GE. It just said the girl got hit by a glass, and the Atlético-MG fans got tear-gassed as they attempted a pitch invasion. It says a man was reported and arrested over racism, not that it was unequivocally ''seen'' - there are highly specific rules for WP:BLPCRIME ↗. If you read any further detail, add the source you heard it from.
Unknown Temptation (talk) 09:44, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

:1-Sorry if you misunderstood, i did not mean the coaches - i meant the coaching staff (members of the coaches' team, like the one that kicked a player while he was down), the coaches themselves though were somewhat involved as they tried to break up the fighting at the end, i will see if i can find the full video of the brawl.
:2-To my understanding, yes its military police, but its specifically crowd control police/riot police, as they are the ones that usually have tear gas, batons and shields
:3-the racism part was reported, though yeah maybe using seen is not the right word for it.
:as for the pitch invasion and objects thrown, yes the videos i saw show objects being thrown, that being the reason the 14 year old girl was hurt. the pitch invasion is also mentioned thoroughly in the source provided.
:MySalsa22 (talk) 20:33, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

OK I watched the embedded videos and there were a few objects thrown by the fans - but the text says the pitch invasion attempt was the most important part. There is no video of the glass or racial incidents, we just have the text. The video of the brawl does show some coaches, but we have no report that they were punished, and they honestly look like they were breaking it up. More importantly, the source with that video was not cited where the coaches were mentioned. Unknown Temptation (talk) 09:55, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

:Alright, yeah maybe using seen wasnt the best wording for the racism and the glass thrown.
:As for the coaches, i meant mostly their staff (as i said before), one of them was (if im not mistaken) mentioned for having kicked a player while he was down - some security also appeared to be hitting or pushing players during the altercation, while the rest of the staff (including both coaches) were in fact most likely trying to break up.

:Since despite a very recent block, you restored your edit ↗ after it was reverted on Prisoners of war in the Russo-Ukrainian war (2022–present) ↗, it seems you need to be reminded about this. You are adding repetitive information to the lead, which already describes both sides abusing POW's, which is already a WP:DUE ↗ failure as WP:RS ↗ vastly more documents abuses committed by Russia. TylerBurden (talk) 20:33, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
::It is not necessarily repetitive, its a separate report by a separate organization - yes, Russia has committed more abuses against POWs, that still doesnt mean including a report by a international organization on abuses done by both sides (which does include Russia as well) is somehow undue. Maybe there is a better way to include that in though.
::I also dont see how this has anything to do with the partial block in that other article? i reverted someone who was trying to change the denomination of a criminal organization without consensus, and simply had forgotten that i had already reverted their edits (which were repeatedly done under various different TAs FYI), i dont think we should bring this into the discussion, especially if we can discuss further on the article's talk page.

Need some advice to add a book page citation.

Hello. I noticed your edit on Japnaese war crimes and wanted your two cents on an book citation I wanted to add.

I bought a digital copy of Richard about Franks book Tower of Skulls a few days ago and was hoping to discuss how i could add a citation from it regarding the death toll of Japans war atrocities throughout much of the first half of the 20th century. I wanted to add a citation on the minimum of 19 million dead from government policy. Im quite optimistic on the reliability of this estimate since it focuses on government policy against non-combatants. That said I was hoping to at said estimate in the near future.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_crimes Undeadmerc3 (talk) 12:00, 9 July 2026 (UTC)

:Hello, i think its a good idea to add this in, the infobox does have a part where it estimates between 19-30 million dead, you could start by adding this source there, using the same template as the other book citations in the article. MySalsa22 (talk) 12:04, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
::Thank you.is there an editing tool to simplify the process? Undeadmerc3 (talk) 12:07, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
:::I would advise using the beta features, like the 2017 editor, which to me have made adding sources much more easy, just use the citation thing there and provide either the name of the book or the ISBN for it and it will probably appear. MySalsa22 (talk) 12:12, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
