Thank you for coming to my talk! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:45, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
I uploaded vacation pics (from back home), at least the first day, - and remember Aribert Reimann. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:01, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
: {{ping|Gerda Arendt}} - "inspired by Claude Debussy's compositions for clarinet" - other than orchestral use, isn't there only the ''Première rhapsodie ↗''? Narky Blert (talk) 20:38, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

I like to see Appalachian Spring ↗ on the Main page today (not by me, just interested and reviewed), and I also made it my story. - How do you like the statue (see places)? I was undecided so show three versions ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:14, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
The statue is of Hildegard of Bingen ↗, and as it happens, her Physica ↗ is on the Main page today, and Marian Anderson ↗ as my top story (by NBC, 1939), and below (on my talk) three people with raised arms, - and the place is the cherry blossom in Frauenstein --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:48, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
plum tree blossom for Kalevi Kiviniemi in the snow - see my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:57, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
today a sad task - memory of Andrew Davis ↗ - turned into entertainment (yt at the bottom of his article, actually both) -- the latest pictures capture extreme weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:44, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
Oak Grove, Louisiana ↗
Hi there. I see you were the last to edit here ↗, so maybe you can help, because disambiguation pages make me dizzy.
The article Oak Grove, Louisiana ↗ is the only "Oak Grove" in the state with a Wikipedia article. However, the meat of the article is located at Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana ↗.
There was also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oak Grove, Louisiana ↗.
(As an aside, Oak Grove, Louisiana ↗ was created by a notorious sock I've been hunting for years)
I think the entire article should be moved back to "Oak Grove, Louisiana".
What do you think? Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 11:09, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
:I see you changed the DAB page, but this is still the only "Oak Grove" in Louisiana. The parish name is unnecessary, no? Magnolia677 (talk) 11:00, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
::{{ping|Magnolia677}} Thanks for dropping by. I have a health issue which wrecks my ability to concentrate. The wholly-unlinked entry on the DAB page needs to go. As for your main point, I agree with you - the WP:PTOPIC ↗ for {{-r|Oak Grove, Louisiana}} is Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana ↗. I suggest a WP:RM#Uncontroversial technical requests ↗. Link this discussion. I have the technical permissions to make the necessary moves but lack the stamina. Best, Narky Blert (talk) 14:16, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
:::I am so sorry to hear that. I noticed that you had been less active than when we collaborated so successfully but I had hoped it was by choice. I hope that ill health is not affecting your offline life too badly and I wish you all the best. Certes (talk) 15:54, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
::::TY for your kind words. Narky Blert (talk) 20:00, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
:::::Thank you so much for your advice with this. I hope your health issues improve soon and you're back to 100 percent. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 09:54, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

I also have a request. I usually make a criteria for every new barnstar made, but I can't comprehend the ideal-purpose of the WikiProject to come up with one. Can you develop a criteria to be assign for this barnstar? Thank you. Jerium (talk) 21:15, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

:Inclusion criterion? I suggest nomination by active members. Us WP:WIKIGNOME ↗S don't seek recognition, and can be rather embarrassed by it. Narky Blert (talk) 21:59, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

Happy new year 2025, opened with trumpet fanfares that first sounded OTD in 1725 (as the Main page had). My story today is about a composer who influenced music history also by writing. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:30, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
:Happy New Tear to you also! My Xmas present to a couple of guys who run a very good popular music reaction channel and who introduce me to lots of things I didn't know was the opening chorus of a work first performed in 1734 and not again until 1857. There's an excellent performance on YT by Voces8 ↗. I also gave it to a friend who has a pop and popular classical background, who has a very good ear indeed - he wasn't phased by Webern's Op 28 string quartet. I also gave him "Nun seid ihr wohl gerochen", and when I told him that we'd both sung the tune in the minor (we both have CofE ↗ upbringing) he got it at once. Narky Blert (talk) 14:14, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
:: 1734 sounds like BWV 248 but that's not exactly what I'd expect from Voces8, - I used them for my story on Christmas Eve, - did you see? Today a violinist from Turkey, Ayla Erduran ↗, whom you can watch playing Schubert chamber music. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:36, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
:::1734 was also the year of "Jauchzet, frohlokket!"
:::My father and I didn't agree on everything, but one thing we always agreed on was Schubert. The variation movement from ''The Trout'' was played at his funeral. Today's story - short version: ten years ago we had a DYK about a soprano who sang in concerts with me in the choir, - longer: I found ''today'' a youtube of an aria ↗ she sang with us then, recorded the same year, - if you still have time: our performances were the weekend before the Iraq war ultimatum, and we sang Dona nobis pacem ↗ (and the drummer drummed!) as if they could hear us in Washington. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:48, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
:{{replyto|Gerda Arendt}} I too take pride in having written articles which attract one view per day. Do you know Priaulx Rainier ↗'s ''Cycle for Declamation ↗''? It must take nerves of steel to sing.
:I've been pondering on how to include "Und was behan dex Soldaten Weib?" in enwp. The Dutch article ↗ is very feeble, and the sources to support an artivle just aren't there. I may be able to add a sentence or two to ''Schweik in the Second World War ↗''. There are several recordings in German, including one by Lotte Lenya ↗ (YouTube link ↗), and two significant ones in English, as "The Ballad of the Soldier's Wife", by popular musicians: Marianne Faithfull ↗ (for me, the best interpreter of Weill since Lenya) and PJ Harvey ↗. ::: {{ping|Gerda Arendt}} I've been working (slowly) on ''Soldaten Weib'' in my sandbox. I think I'm going to have enough for an enwiki article - not least because the Weill setting is a year earlier than the Eisler one, and the cities and gifts are slightly different. I'll keep you informed.
::: During my researches, I came across Sari Gruber, who might be of interest to you. I haven't done a proper search, but there's a good-looking biography ↗ on the Bach Cantatas Website. Today I remember a singer who impressed me on stage. - You are invited to a peer review after FAC ↗, - in a poll, you could simply mark yes or no for the four open questions. It's an experiment. The piece has its 300th anniversary on Christmas Day, and should be as good as possible by then. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:24, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
I have three biographies on the main page today, miss a fourth one ↗, nominated a fifth, that means little time for other matters. My places now include La Scala ↗, - see music, Verdi three times, and twice in my story! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:55, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
:Congratultaions! I think the only article I ever started on a singer was Elizabeth Laurence ↗, who I discoverd through ''Duke Bluebeard's Castle ↗''. Narky Blert (talk) 10:16, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
:: Interesting, - I'll look some other day, too busy. The only one I started was the day before the three, Willi Gundlach ↗, one of my inspiring conductors. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:50, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
:: Look, today's image ↗, - she "portrayed" herself with her husband at the end of the table, - would have been good for Thanksgiving ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:46, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

I thought you were referring to this edit of mine https://en.wikipedia.org/?diff=prev&oldid=1319077420 ↗ at ANI. (You have to look a bit to find my comment -- looks like I accidentally clobbered someone else's change, though I don't know how.) I mean, it fits both the projected product, and its sponsor, don't you think? EEng 22:46, 28 October 2025 (UTC)

On a recent trip to Paris, I saw where Guy Morançon ↗ worked who was first to record Mendelssohn's organ music, on a great instrument, - listen, illustrated with historic images. - I also strolled in Frank Gehry ↗'s creation, Fondation Louis Vuitton ↗. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:28, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

... inviting you to check out "my" story (fun listen today, full of surprises), music (and memory), and places (pictured by me: the latest uploads) any day! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:15, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
:I must have heard Andrew Carter sing. I attended St Peter's School, York ↗ in the 1960s; and although it was several centuries since we had been the cathedral school, we did occasionally take part in services at York Minster. Our organist, choirmaster and music teacher was a delightful man called Freddie Wayne, forgotten to history. I remember singing under his direction as a boy soprano in ''Messiah Part II'' and the ''Nelson Mass ↗''. Narky Blert (talk) 18:26, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
:: Congratulations to early experiences of that kind! Both works came much later for me, but an enthusiastic music teacher who founded a school choir and picked voices introduced us to the Choral Fantasy ↗ and Die Himmel erzählen die Ehre Gottes ↗ when I was 11. - I had forgotten why Carter was on my watchlist, until I found the links to two choirs (which I had written), one ↗ singing Benedicite ↗ and the other ↗ (without me, only the young people) "Rejoice in the Lord alway". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:43, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
:: Today you can watch the 2010 premiere of a violin sonata with the composer also the pianist ↗. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:33, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
:: 20 January is the 100th birthday of David Tudor ↗ (see my story) and the 300th birthday of Bach's cantata Meine Seufzer, meine Tränen, BWV 13 ↗, if we go by date instead of occasion as he would have thought, so see my story for last Sunday, and celebrate ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:49, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

:The poem doesn't seem to be in ''Des Knaben Wunderhorn''. I suspect A+B didn't include lyrics whose author was known.
:The archaic spelling reminded me of William Dunbar ↗'s "Lament for the Makaris ↗" (text ↗), written at very nearly the same time. In old Scots, "quh" was pronounced "wh". You'll recognise some Germanic words which have dropped out of modern English or whose spelling has changed, e.g. heill, Erd, sicker, knicht. Surprisingly, no-one seems to have set it to music. Narky Blert (talk) 06:31, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
:: Thank you! - Giants today, RD Helmuth Rilling ↗ and OTD Friedrich Cerha ↗ 100. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:11, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
:: Today something new: a 100th birthday of someone alive, György Kurtág ↗! In 2004 I was there when he and his wife played for the Rheingau Musik Festival ↗ where he was the featured composer. They played as the 2019 DYK said, on an upright piano, - listen, the last piece was the same. - More pics uploaded, enjoy. And Rosiestep shows the latest cat! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:02, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
:: Today's main page ↗ features four biographies I helped to bring there, two women and two men, three opera singers (one pictured) and an actor, - a record for me, I believe ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:45, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Check out music: des Soldaten Weib and 20 others, - you would have loved it ↗, as I did --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:08, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
:I recognised about one-third of those (and yes, I did spot ''die Stöckelschuh'').
:One of the songs mentions another place in the Mysterious East, besides Surabaya - Mandalay ↗. That reminded me of this curious setting ↗ of Rudyard Kipling's poem "Mandalay ↗". It's reminiscent of those patriotic music-hall ↗ songs which were popular in late C19 and early C20. Discogs lists no fewer than four composers; though I suspect that one or two of them only tinkered with the words.
:The British never fully colonised Burma, and it retained an exotic air. That may explain why Kipling (who knew India) got the geography wrong. Flying fish ↗ are saltwater species, and Mandalay is 630km inland up the Irrawaddy River ↗. Moulmein ↗ is on the coast, 200km from Rangoon ↗ in the opposite direction.
