Wikipedia and copyright
30px|link=|alt=Control copyright icon ↗ Hello OSINTsparrow! Your additions to :Noncombatant Immunity ↗ have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain ↗ or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible ↗ copyright license. (''To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission ↗''.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright ↗ and plagiarism ↗ issues.
- You can only copy/translate a ''small'' amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation mark ↗s (") and cite the source using an inline citation ↗. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content ↗ in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners ↗, for how to cite sources here.{{#ifeq: | 1 |</strong>}}
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information ''in your own words and structure'', in proper paraphrase ↗. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems ↗, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing ↗. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify ↗ the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research ↗.{{#ifeq: | 2 |</strong>}}
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use ↗ images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria ↗ in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If ''you'' own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you ''may'' be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, ''to the world'', into either the public domain ↗ (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible ↗ copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials ↗.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia ↗. See also Help:Translation#License requirements ↗.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked ↗ from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. <!-- Template:uw-copyright-new --> 2A01:4C8:A0:75C2:E42B:61CB:BFEF:9707 ↗ (talk) 11:05, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

Noncombatant Immunity ↗ moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Noncombatant Immunity ↗, is not suitable as written to remain published. First, this is little more than a dictionary definition (see WP:DICDEF ↗. Second, it would need more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable ↗, independent sources ↗ in order to show it meets WP:GNG ↗. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.<small>(? ↗)</small> Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability ↗ is of central importance ↗ on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace ↗ (with a prefix of "<code>Draft:</code>" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline ↗ and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ::Content has to be written in your own words and not include any wording from the source material (short properly attributed quotations are allowed, but cannot be used as a substitute for writing your own content). One thing I find that works for me is to read over the source material and then pretend I am verbally describing the topic to a friend in my own words. Stuff should also be presented in a different order where possible. Summarize rather than paraphrase, and don't try to include every single detail. This will typically result in your version being much shorter than the source document. It also helps to have more than one source to draw from. There's some reading material on this topic at :Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing ↗ and/or have a look at the material at Paraphrase: Write It in Your Own Words ↗. Check out the links in the menu on the left for some exercises to try. Or study this module aimed at WikiEd students ↗. — Diannaa (talk) 15:28, 26 July 2025 (UTC)

Still violating copyright
Your recent edits to War crime ↗ are copyright violations. Please don't copy whole sentences from the sources. Write in your own words. <span style="color: #c56030">lp0 on fire</span> <span style="color: #64cea0">()</span> 11:03, 7 December 2025 (UTC)

::If I add information on the legal provisions (surrounding war, for example), what is the acceptable line between writing in my own words and changing the content of the legal provision, which has very specific terminology and wording? Thank you. OSINTsparrow (talk) 00:05, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
:::Specific legal wording for which there is no alternative can be copied, but that isn't an excuse to copy whole sentences wherever legal wording appears, nor to express the same ideas in the same order with the same structure. The point of Wikipedia is to summarize the sources, not copy them. <span style="color: #c56030">lp0 on fire</span> <span style="color: #64cea0">()</span> 07:40, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
::::Is it always better to err on the side of summarizing legal provisions (i.e., principles, norms, rules) even though it changes the content of a provision to an extent? My last question is: what it an acceptable case where "specific legal wording for which there is no alternative can be copied”? I definitely do not want to lose my editing privileges and do not want to cross that line again. Is it safer to just change the wording in such cases even if it adjusts a specific legal meaning in the prior wording? Sorry for all the questions and thank you for your help and responses. OSINTsparrow (talk) 23:46, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
:::::An example of a case where specific legal language can't really be changed is when referring to the name of a specific law, or a legal concept that has its own article and doesn't have any alternate names (not being a lawyer I'm struggling to think of something specific) but in general that will rarely be more than a few words. I would say yes, it is almost always better to rephrase it in your own words, and in your case I would recommend erring om the side of caution. If there's a term you think should be copied directly, feel free to ask at the teahouse ↗ or somewhere more specific like WikiProject Law ↗. You'll pick it up over time but the simplest advice I can give is to follow what other articles already do (in particular, you might like to look for some good article ↗s or featured article ↗s and copy them in style). Hope that helps (: <span style="color: #c56030">lp0 on fire</span> <span style="color: #64cea0">()</span> 07:48, 9 December 2025 (UTC)

Koran war
30px|alt=Stop icon ↗ Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an '''edit war ↗'''. This means that you are repeatedly changing a page's content back to how you believe it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree with your changes. Please ''stop editing the page'' and use the '''talk page ↗''' to work toward creating a version of the page that represents consensus ↗ among the editors involved. Wikipedia provides a page explaining how this is accomplished ↗. If discussions reach an impasse, you can request help at a relevant noticeboard ↗ or seek dispute resolution ↗ such as a third opinion ↗. In some cases, you may wish to request page protection ↗ while a discussion to resolve the dispute is ongoing.
'''If you continue edit warring, you may be blocked from editing ↗ Wikipedia'''—especially if you violate the three-revert rule ↗, which states that an editor ''must not perform more than three reverts ↗ on a single page within a 24-hour period''. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, or whether it involves the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also, please keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—'''even if you do not violate the three-revert rule'''— if things indicate that you intend to continue reverting content on the page.<!-- Template:uw-3rr -->
Note that doing so to add poor grammar is a bad look. Slatersteven (talk) 14:47, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
:HI I am really sorry I was writing an edit and you reverted my edit while I was writing it, so it got completely messed up, and I'm still confused about the discrepancies because I did not realize you reverted it, and I was still making changes. I'm fine with any edits you make. I was literally trying to contribute something and you just keep deleting and it literally has been created discretions every time I added something and I was really confused. Maybe you can look at what I edited after I edit everything I need to today. If you revert while I'm editing. I don't know because the deft I have is in the editor, and not being updated live. I feel like I can't even make edits now. :/ OSINTsparrow (talk) 15:01, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
:I literally didn’t make ANY reverts. I was trying to make edits! You were the one who made a revert. I was using the version in the editor viewer and that doesn’t get updated live. So I was publishing the old versions, before your edits. I MADE NO REVERTS. So I have no idea what you’re talking about and why you’re assuming I have the time to conduct an edit war. So you see it say anywhere that I reverted a single thing or your side? Because my doge doesn’t. OSINTsparrow (talk) 15:22, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
:I apologize for my typos. This has really distorted my editing process today. If you look, I redid the first hew paragraphs of the introduction today, and it is formative to the page. i included many historical dominations of the Korean War that were not previously on the page. So I am making a lot of edits, and they require a lot of effort. And my entire process got messed up because of the discrepancies because I was using a non-updated version, and had no idea it wasn’t updated. I was making a lot of edits today, to genuinely try to improve the page.
:I am fine with any reverts you make once I’m done making the edits I make. Is it okay with you if I continue making edits to page? Maybe you can look at it once I finish, which should be by the end of today. Then there shouldn’t be any unintended editing wars. And hopefully I can make improvements to the page. Again, I’m fine with you reverting an edits i make once they’re done.
:Let me know what you think, because discrepancies keep showing up on my side, and all my contributuions now are being ruined because of the discrepancies.
:Thanks and sorry if you thought I was at all warring with you. Again, I have no problem with reverts. And if you look at my Wiki activities, I’ve never made a single revert to anything. So hope you understand that what you’re accusing me of is entirely assumption, and just not correct. I’m not the best with it technologically, and I get very confused with technical issues, like the page not updating and discrepancies. But none of what you said above is true, and is based completely on assumptions you were quick to make. You also make highly inflammatory accusations that are projections, and they literally have no basis, OSINTsparrow (talk) 15:53, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
::Yes you did, you reverted me. Slatersteven (talk) 12:48, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
:::Again, I did not intentionally make a revert of your edit. I had an older copy of the article that I published that was in the editing viewer mode for a while because I took a break from an edit I was making that required some more thinking. My browser was extremely slow loading it and there were contradictions found in the versions, so I reconciled the versions by taking parts from earlier drafts and republishing them because I did not know people were actively making edits at the same time I was. I had no idea that was what caused to error or discrepancy. Otherwise, I would have just deleted my own edits entirely and just started over rather than erase someone else's contribution/work on the page for no reason. I assumed falsely that it was my own uploading error from a previous version due to my outdated browser.
:::For that I apologize and I have changed my editing practices since then to prevent this from ever happening again. I changed my browser to one that is quicker, I never leave my editor viewer on anymore during breaks, I make shorter edits to make sure my version doesn't produce discrepancies with other editors who may be editing at the same time I am.
:::I appreciate your engagement on Wikipedia and the Korean War page. We all do this for free to contribute to public knowledge and I respect everyone engaging on here very much. I never want to be the source of anything negative for anyone on here. For that I'm incredibly sorry for any inconvenience I caused in erasing your edits and contributions to the page through my failure to address the technological errors and difficulties I was facing on the page correctly.
:::It is a complex issue in the sense that if many people are editing at the same time, it can cause discrepancies in the editing process that is very confusing for someone who is not savvy at technology as most Wiki Contributors like you seem to be. This is not an excuse, but it's amazing how easily you and others seem to navigate talk spaces, reverts, etc. here on Wiki so effortlessly. I still don't understand this page that we're currently interacting on.
:::After analyzing this entire issue thoroughly I think a wonderful tool that Wiki could add to be help contributors is something that shows how many editors are actively editing a page at the same time you are. Especially on high traffic pages, it would be very useful to make sure problems like this don't occur. I for one had no idea a problem like this could occur and get so complex, especially on high activity pages. And when major contributions occur on high traffic pages.
:::Happy Friday and hope you have a wonderful Easter Weekend

:Hi Dianna, every sentence that I took I either summarized or quoted. Which sentence was the problem? OSINTsparrow (talk) 15:07, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
::{{tq|"On 25 July 1950, US soldiers evacuated 500–600 villagers from their homes in Joo Gok Ri and Im Gae Ri. The villagers headed south and reached an American road block on the morning of 26 July where they were stopped by US troops and ordered onto railroad tracks above the road."}} Then you added a quotation as well, which is still there. I also removed some content copied from the same source that had been in the article for a long time.— Diannaa <span style="color:red">🍁</span> (talk) 03:08, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
:::Is it still a copyright violation if I quoted it? OSINTsparrow (talk) 03:09, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
::::Please re-write it in your own words. — Diannaa <span style="color:red">🍁</span> (talk) 13:20, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
:::::Hi Diannaa, sorry for this delayed response but I wanted to say thank you so much for your contributions to Wikipedia. I saw your page and you are incredible and amazing. While I made an editor account in 2022, it was only recently that I started editing more frequently. Whole I have learned a lot since I first started, I am nowhere near the incredible expert that you are. I am really sorry for my mistakes and not fully understanding the Wikipedia copyright violation policy as seen on my Talkpage. I am the only person I know that makes edits on Wikipedia, and have so much more to learn.
:::::Thank you for correcting my in regard to the Wikipedia copyright violation policy. I think I understand now what you're saying and what I was doing wrong. I will improve and correct this problem moving forward.
:::::On that note, just to make sure I understand, could you explain the line in your opinion between summarizing and/or paraphrasing and copyright violation? More specifically, is paraphrasing okay in your opinion and what is the difference between paraphrasing using your own words and paraphrasing that shortens the content. Hopefully that makes sense.
:::::Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and for your time. Hope you're having a wonderful week so far. OSINTsparrow (talk) 07:42, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
