Hi Russiaoniichan!

I noticed that we're going in circles editing the foreign-born samurai page, so I thought it'd be more productive to talk here. Are you familiar with the purpose of Wikipedia "Talk" sections?

Answer: I'm familiar. Why don't you wait for Talk to decide and only then make changes? The stable version was before edits that you're ignoring.

Also, I'd like to link to the recently opened Yasuke dispute, I think you might be interested in participating - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard.

Regarding box office gross rounding on Scream 7 ↗

Hi,

Regarding your summaries on this edit ↗ and also on this one ↗, you are misinterpreting MOS:LARGENUM ↗: it doesn't specify rounding values in the millions to the nearest hundred thousand. What it does say is:

{{tq|Where explicit uncertainty is unavailable (or is {{strong|unnecessary for the article's purposes}}), round to an {{strong|appropriate number}} of significant digits; the presented precision should usually be {{strong|conservative}}.}} [my emphasis]

Therefore, if a source like BOM is listing the box office at $204,703,830, it's completely reasonable to list that as $205 million. That's already 3 significant figures of precision, which is sufficient.

Indeed, the first example from LARGENUM has something being rounded to the nearest hundred-million:
{{tq2|

It doesn't say "the 299.8-million-metre-per-second speed of light".

Joeyconnick (talk) 18:56, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

:Hello. "MOS:LARGENUM" refers to the article "Significant Figures", which provides examples in the section "Rounding to Significant Figures". Even in examples with non-integer numbers, rounding is indicated as 1.25 being rounded to 1.3 in the case of "rounding to the nearest integer". In the case of "rounding to the nearest even", 1.25 is rounded to 1.2 and "If this method applies to 1.35, then it is rounded up to 1.4".
:Also, "MOS:LARGENUM" has the example "The jury's award was $8.5 million (not $8,462,247.63)". "Template:Infobox film" states: "($22.4 million vs. $22,392,684)." with a link to the discussion article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Film/Archive_52#Rounding_Dollars_in_film_articles_and_Infoboxes .
:It would be clear if @Evope had tried to express his position on rounding over the years. His entire page is filled with this discussion, with no clear response from him. It's as if he's avoiding a direct response and discussion. What is the number that starts rounding up for him? Because he doesn't round any numbers to the nearest million, but instead follows a set of guidelines in his head. Sometimes, 105.5 million is 106 million to him, while other times, he rounds 105.5 to 105.6. And sometimes he rounds down, which is definitely false information. Russiaoniichan (talk) 19:31, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
::I look carefully to see if I should round down or up. I was taking my time.
::@Evope Evope (talk) 19:36, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
:::@Evope And here you are again avoiding the conversation without saying anything specific. I don't see your willingness to discuss, which has led to multiple conflicts over the years. Is it that difficult to explain your position with correct examples? You can also write it on your profile page for other people to see.
:::I don't want to conflict with you, but you don't have a clear stance on rounding, and without it, this situation will continue with other users as well. Is that what you want? You've never given people a proper, complete answer, just a vague, non-directional one. Russiaoniichan (talk) 19:50, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
::::I will tell others that I am rounding up or down depending on the digits in the future.
::::@Evope Evope (talk) 19:54, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
:::::@Joeyconnick I think it's obvious to you why what's happening is happening. He is not ready for dialogue with other people. Russiaoniichan (talk) 19:56, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
::::::Hi,
::::::My comments are purely restricted to your misinterpretation of MOS:LARGENUM as indicating that for values in the millions, we must always provide figures which include one decimal place.
::::::I don't know about your issues with another editor, but you edited "$210 million" to "$209.8 million" and said this was justified by MOS:LARGENUM, which it is not. That's all I was commenting on.
::::::But just so we're clear, if a movie grossed $209.3 million and someone listed that as $209 million, that would also be correct. There is no indication that movie grosses have scientific precision, so we can assume there's enough uncertainty that regular rounding rules based on a reasonable number of significant digits apply. —Joeyconnick (talk) 20:07, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
:::::::@Joeyconnick My main problem is that when the box office values seem to be the same on different pages (as I said, let's say 105.5 million), the user changes the rounding in different ways, either up (sometimes rounded to the nearest million, and sometimes to the nearest hundred thousand) or down. If the user were to stick to the same rounding position when rounding up or down, there would be no problems. Russiaoniichan (talk) 11:42, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
