Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello {{PAGENAME}}, '''welcome ↗''' to Wikipedia!
Here are some tips:
- '''Take a look at the Simplified Ruleset ↗.'''
- Read the Tutorial ↗, How to edit a page ↗ and the Manual of Style ↗.
- Find out how to revert ↗, move and merge ↗ pages.
- Sign your posts on talk pages ↗ using four tildes (~~~~).
- Add yourself to the New user log ↗ and a regional notice board ↗
- Ask questions at the Village pump ↗ or Help desk ↗.
- Use the Show preview ↗ button
- Provide an Edit summary ↗
- Add the correct image copyright tag ↗ to any images you upload
- Take a look at Consensus of standards ↗
- Create a User page ↗
- '''Be bold ↗'''
- Ignore all rules ↗
If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki ↗, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the '''{{MediaWiki:edit}}''' link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold ↗ and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at ''How to edit a page'' ↗, or try out the Sandbox ↗ to test your editing skills.
If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself ↗, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors ↗ who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels ↗, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.
If you have any questions, feel free to '''ask me''' on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alf 10:18, 28 August 2005 (UTC).

Hi there! Thanks for your contributions to Kompeito ↗.
I noticed you added an extra kanji ↗ variant of the word, and took out the hiragana ↗ version. ja:金平糖 ↗ uses 金平糖 as the title of the article, and it's the most common way to write the word if kanji is to be used at all, so I suggest we leave that as the primary spelling. Including alternate spellings is probably not that useful unless we list all of them.
Also, the katakana ↗ variant spelling コンペイトー is extremely uncommon; there are only 417 hits for it on Google ↗. こんぺいとう has 138,000, so we should keep it there instead of the ''katakana'' spelling. It's by far the most common way to write the word.
If you don't mind, I think I'll make these changes. Thanks again for contributing! --Che Fox 06:25, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for making the Kenkanryu article, I knew there had to be someone out there who would do a better job then me! Image copyright problem with Image:G_On_War_excerpt.jpg
Thanks for uploading :Image:G_On_War_excerpt.jpg ↗. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation ↗ is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia ↗ because of copyright law ↗ (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy ↗).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content ↗, public domain ↗, and fair use ↗. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags ↗ and place it on the image page like this: <code><nowiki>{{TemplateName}}</nowiki></code>.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags ↗. -- Carnildo 08:47, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Erik Mongrain ↗ - エリック・モングレイン ↗ ??
Hello, I contact you to help me with an article to translate in japanese. At the beginning, I have created the article with the caracters エリック・モングレン ↗, but wikipedians decides to spell it エリック・モングレイン ↗ instead, because Erik didn't have a official Website in japanese. I'm Erik Mongrain's Webmaster, and to do the japanese pages ↗, the translator have spelled Erik Mongrain エリック・モングレン. The problem that I have is that there's 2 ways his name in japanese and I was wondering which one is the good one for his official Website (and the article)...

Pop music
Hey, Ryoske, I'd like to ask for a favour in your capacity as Japanese-English translator. I'm working on a complete re-write of Pop music ↗ and when I recently moved the text from my sandbox to the article, the format of the link to the Japanese-language Wikipedia was lost. I don't have Japanese fonts on my system so am unable to fix it myself, would you be as kind as to correct it for me when you have the time? You can go straight to the appropriate section here ↗. Japanese Music Charts
Hi, I'm just writing to you to request your help and assistance in referencing the Japanese Music Charts. Through out alot of popular english songs I have viewed I have noticed that they have been noted as performing well in Japan and have also read that the Japanese music market it very big. But in saying this every song I have seen has not got a Japanese chart position in the charts box. So if you are into music and willing to try and provide information on the Japanese Music Charts it would be greatly appreciated so then wikipedia users can start adding the Japanese chart positions into the chart boxes for popular songs. Where did you learn about "downstep"?
You have added some incorect claims here ↗ about "downstep ↗" without citations. Are you sure you know what that term means? Where did you learn about it? Note that the notation used on the English Wikipedia with a downward arrow (ꜜ) is problematic and does not refer to "downstep". Mazamadao (talk) 09:38, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
: Hi Mazamadao. Following up on this, I have restored the structural examples demonstrating the morphophonological behavior of the supplementary verbs ''iru'', ''inai'', and ''kudasai''. To address your concerns regarding terminology, I have completely removed the word "downstep" from this section and replaced it with "accent nucleus" and "pitch fall" to ensure typological accuracy.
: Furthermore, I have added explicit citations to the appendices of both the ''NHK Nihongo Hatsuon Akusento Shinjiten'' and the ''Shin Meikai Nihongo Akusento Jiten'', which specifically verify the pitch behavior of these auxiliary verbs. Thanks for pushing for a more rigorous section. Ryoske (talk) 15:11, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
::Thank you for correcting your mistakes. To be frank, other than "downstep", your description is largely accurate if not too oversimplified. Mazamadao (talk) 06:45, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
:::Just as a side note, I've heard people misuse the term "downstep" and cite the YouTuber Dogen. Do note that whatever book he claims to have read on pitch accent, he himself is not a reliable source given his rampant misuse of the term in his video "lessons". Mazamadao (talk) 06:48, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
::::Thanks for reviewing the updates. For what it's worth, my use of the term wasn't stemming from YouTube, but rather from the general drift of the term in broad English-language pedagogy. That said, I completely agree with you that strictly adhering to precise phonological typologies makes for a much stronger encyclopedia article. Glad we could get it sorted out! - Why did you restore generated content after being reverted?
