Galileo

Hi mate, any particular reason you blanked 90% of the Galileo Galilei ↗ article? Let me know if you were trying to do something productive that didn't worked - can help if you'd like. Changes like that may be seen as vandalism for which you may be blocked. Cheers, '''Stalwart<span style="color:green;">111</span>''' (talk) 00:15, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
:Yeah, I thought it might have been something like that which is why I tagged it as "unexplained" rather than vandalism. All your other edits seem valuable and productive which is why it seemed unusual. It actually deleted 124,000 bytes which is a huge amount (check out the article history). All good - no worries. You might want to go back and try the edits again - I wound them all back to a previous version rather than undoing just that one so undid your whole "set". Cheers, '''Stalwart<span style="color:green;">111</span>''' (talk) 00:54, 23 October 2012 (UTC).

Disambiguation link notification for October 24

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Sankt Anton am Arlberg ↗, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Segway ↗ (check to confirm ↗&nbsp;|&nbsp;fix with Dab solver ↗). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. <small>Read the FAQ{{*}} Join us at the DPL WikiProject ↗.</small>

A comma apology

Thank you for teaching me yet another difference between American English and British English. I recognise a couple of contributors to that article as users of British English; that might explain how the usage crept in but there's no question which is appropriate for articles such as United States customary units ↗. Sorry for troubling you. NebY (talk) 14:26, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon|link= ↗ Hello. Thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia ↗. I noticed that your recent edit to :Real number ↗ did not have an edit summary ↗. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief ↗.

The edit summary field looks like this:
{{The edit-summary field/OOUI}}

'''Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make.''' With a Wikipedia account ↗ you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting {{myprefs|3|check=Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary}}, and then click the "Save" button.

Commas

I'm tempted to squabble with your recent comma additions to 'Weimar Republic', but before I do -- can you point me to a style manual (for either American or British English) that says that a comma is absolutely required after short introductory prepositional phrases such as "On 16 June" and "By emergency decree"? What I've been able to find leans towards a comma being optional after phrases of 5 words or less. Thanks for any info you can share. GHStPaulMN (talk) 02:27, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

:It's kind of you to ask for authoritative support. I appreciate it. Comma are one of the most difficult elements of punctuation. There's no end to the debates we could have. For that reason, it won't offend me if you disagree with some of my changes. Now, here is the best guidance that I've found for comma use in American English:
:The bottom of that page has the extended rules for comma use and further guidance. There are examples for every rule.
:I hope that this is helpful for you. Steven Carter (talk) 09:45, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
::Thanks for the link, but I would say that the Chicago Manual of Style is more authoritative. For commas after prepositional phrases, see https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/qanda/data/faq/topics/Commas/faq0030.html. And in the following sentence where you added a comma before 'but', the second clause isn't independent (not a standalone sentence), so the comma is not needed and probably technically incorrect:
::"During the 1920 Kapp Putsch, Seeckt refused to deploy the ''Reichswehr'' against the Freikorps involved in the putsch, but immediately afterwards had the Ruhr Red Army brutally suppressed during the Ruhr uprising."
::None of this is all that important, but given the amount of truly bad writing I run into in Wikipedia, there are tons of much more valuable corrections out there waiting to be made. GHStPaulMN (talk) 12:34, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
:::I agree that my addition of a comma was incorrect in the example you provided. Please remove it.
::: I traveled from my home in Oregon to Brazil where I'm visiting friends. This day began for me at 0430 hours. I am being driven home from the hospital now. I had two hours of inpatient surgery and four hours of recovery at the hospital. I'm still in pain. So, I will have to leave things at this for a few days. Steven Carter (talk) 20:41, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

Commas after dates 2
