Thanks for adding NBA Teams Player Stats

To {{Ping|Sandman766}} Thank you for adding the player stats to certain NBA Team Season pages. Although, I would prefer it if you wrote the statistics in alphabetical order by the players last names to match with the other teams Wikipedia pages. Thank you and take good care.

NFL career statistics

Hi Sandman. Thanks for all the work you've done regarding the stats for the NFL players. Just to give you a heads-up, I've been editing several of the players you did (keeping it lower case) for the headings. This is to keep it uniformed with the hundreds of other NFL pages. For example it will look like this: NFL career statistics and Regular season. Stay well and I'm sure I'll see you around. Regards, Bringingthewood (talk) 01:33, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for using lower case. They look great. I fixed a couple of the disambiguation messages you received for 'tackles'. I put the link in there that you can use. Check out: Lamar Chapman ↗. Also, I put the statistics in column order, instead of a row. You must have seen this already, it's easier to add and amend stats when they are in a column. Such as: Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila ↗. Thank you again for what you did. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:59, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Again, it would easier for all if the stat parameters were in column form. Another editor could come by and revert what you're doing. Bringingthewood (talk) 06:09, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

:I'm using the same template that you recommended for Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila so I don't understand what the issue is. Sandman766 (talk) 19:55, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

::The Career statistics/Regular season look great. I was talking about the statlabels and stavalues that show up as a long line, instead of in column order. If you check out what I edited here: Ahmad Merritt ↗ regarding the 'columns order'. If you started doing the columns today, that's fantastic. I edited 13 players last night when I sent that message over to you. Bringingthewood (talk) 21:57, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
:::Okay, I'm editing one right this second. Jason Lamar ↗ looks like this: |statlabel1=Games|statvalue1=5|statlabel2=Tackles ↗|statvalue2=3}}. One long line put under everything else. I'm going to fix this and move it to under the highlights, the same way it's portrayed on the Biamila page, and a thousand other pages. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:04, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
::::Ok, that makes more sense. I wasn't sure what you were referring to. I know I added some of those stat labels but there were a bunch that I didn't touch so that is why I was confused. I will look for that on the pages I edit from now on. Sandman766 (talk) 05:18, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
:::::HA, I thought I may have been saying it the wrong way. That sounds great, I'm glad we got that all settled. Thank you for the response and I'll see you around. Regards, Bringingthewood (talk) 05:38, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
:::You might see my name making some minor changes. For example, Lynn Scott ↗. If there is statlabel/statvalue 1 there, no need to have several parameters in between before adding statlabels #2 and #3. All parameters have an order. Here's a template - Template:Infobox_NFL_biography#Parameters_and_instructions ↗. Happy Thanksgiving. Bringingthewood (talk) 04:42, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
::::Are you going to tell me that you didn't know what I meant with the parameters. I sent you the TEMPLATE!! Why are you doing what you're doing? I'm correcting this s*** every other day. This isn't a joke. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:29, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
:::::I didn't want to revert some of what you did, but it's a slap in the face when we agreed on what to do ... and then you just throw the parameters out there with no regard, like you knew I was going there to correct them. That wasn't fair. I contacted another party to look in on this. I tried to help, you know I did. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:57, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
::::::Ok. This is what I will do. From now on I won't add anything to the infobox on any pages I touch. Mind you most of the time I'm not anyway and when I do I try to follow the template on what I am adding. I'm assuming a majority of the pages I edit are already not following that template, so you are getting mad at the wrong person in those cases. The reason I was confused on what you were talking about to begin with, was because I wasn't even touching the infobox on the pages starting out. I will just add the career statistics section from now on. That is all I'm interested in doing anyway. Anything you want a certain way, you can take care of yourself. Sandman766 (talk) 06:45, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
:::::::I just want to add that nothing was done with malicious intent. I would add some things in the visual edit screen, not the source edit and therefore it would be added in random spots. If I didn't remember to fix those in the source edit then that is where the issues came to be. Also there were a lot of edits you did that had nothing to do with what I added or changed to the page. "I contacted another party to look in on this." Seriously? I am contributing to the pages I'm editing by adding the career stats section. If the fact that some things were out of order in the infobox is a reason to try to get me banned from editing pages, I feel like that is a bit over the top. Sandman766 (talk) 09:01, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
:::You know what, just do what you want to do. I never said you did something maliciously. Maybe it's easier to add something to a page and not put it in the exact order, I get that, as long as it's there. I'm all for fixing it up. What caught me off guard was that when I sent that template with the order ... the next day certain parts were somewhere else. You didn't do some of the high school deals, I know that. But Jimmy Farris, Troy Evans etc. when stat parameters are sandwiched between NFL and PFR and you were the last to edit, am I seeing things? You definitely know where to put the parameters and I sent a template. Wouldn't you take it as a slap in the face if I ignored what was sent over in a nice way? I ended it with Happy Thanksgiving ... not do it or go **** ********!!!! You're taking this personally and that wasn't my intent. You do a lot here, I'm not going to stand in your way. Adding numbers

Hi Sandman766. Thanks for all that you're doing, it's greatly appreciated. A few months back several editors got together and came up with a safe time to wait before calling a player former. While this has nothing to do with you, it's just with some players they may still be free agents, and there would be no number to add at the present time. This is just a heads-up in case you see me remove numbers and leave an edit summary like this: 'Removed numbers for now. He's still a free agent, normal waiting time is roughly two years from last transaction (signed, released, placed on IR etc.) It's nothing personal and it's fine with me if you continue to do what you do. When I see something that has to be changed I'll do it. I won't revert your edit, just amend where applicable. Thanks again for adding all the stats and U.S. to the pages. Regards, Bringingthewood (talk) 22:40, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

:Hi Bringingthewood. Appreciate the head's up on this. Hopefully you haven't had to change too many of these that I have done. I've tried my best to be mindful of this in my latest updates/edits to pages. Please let me know if there is anything else that comes up that you think I should keep an eye out for. It appears to be the case that some editors don't think that career highs should be included in the stats section. I'm not entirely sure if that is the common thought or not. If you could let me know if there is an agreed upon method to this, similar to the "2 year rule" regarding the labelling a player as former, that would be extremely helpful. I don't want to add any additional work for anyone out there. Again, appreciate the help with this. Still new to the editing of pages so any guidance is helpful. Sandman766 (talk) 03:41, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

::Hi Sandman776. You're welcome. Not at all, you're doing great! Trust me, I know what you mean, it was easier looking at 2021 and changing them. But I got where they were coming from regarding current news. I'll keep an eye on the 'career highs' status. If a consensus is reached, I'll come knocking. The only part of career highs that I see really not necessary would be games played/started. Kind of .. I don't know. I appreciate your mindset, if others believed that way it would make life easier. Sometimes it looks like when bored .. make a new rule! If I hear any news, I'll drop by. This link here, Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Football_League ↗ you might have on your watchlist already, it's informative. Some things being proposed, archives of some that died on the vine etc. Well, have fun and keep doing what you're doing. P.S. Thanks for adding U.S. to the infoboxes. Much appreciated! :) Regards, Bringingthewood (talk) 20:50, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Johnthan Banks

I would hate to see your hard work go to waste, but I know there are a few editors who may delete the stats you entered and/or say that his career highs aren't necessary because there's not enough data to designate career highs.

Appreciate your help, just didn't want you to waste your time and keep an eye out. ParXivalRPT (talk) 00:17, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Underlining?

Curious what the underlined number indicates in the table you added to David Beverly ↗ today meant. Didn't see that stated in the legend.
Best wishes, Zinnober9 (talk) 03:15, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

:Hi Zinnober9,
:I apologize for the late response. I saw your question when you first posted but forgot to answer. I use the underline when showing stats that are technically incomplete, usually due to them not being officially tracked or recorded until a certain date. If you believe this should be added to the legend in cases when this is necessary, please let me know and I can remember to do that moving forward. Sandman766 (talk) 02:41, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Wikilinks

Hi, I noticed you've been editing some page of American football players.

I want to let you know that you have been wikilinking page wrongly. What I mean?

Well, for example, you edited the Steve Owens ↗ page a month ago. You edited his career stats in Infobox, doing the next thing (e.g.):

<code><nowiki>Rushing TDs ↗</nowiki></code>

As you can see in: WP:NOPIPE ↗, we shouldn't do it because we have to keep links as simply as possible, so you should do: <code><nowiki>Rushing touchdown ↗s</nowiki></code>

Also do it with Fumbles, Receiving touchdowns, and every wikilink stat. Do not add Rushing attempts in the running backs' Infoboxes. That is something that shouldn't be highlighted, instead you may add rushing average.

Additionally, please only wikilink them when appropriate, according to: Template:Infobox NFL biography#Parameters and instructions ↗

Finally, it's unnecessary and useless to link the same page twice, as you can see in: MOS:OL ↗ and MOS:DL ↗. So if you already linked Touchdowns, don't do it again.

Once again, I'm glad for your contributions here and you're always welcome to keep editing Wikipedia, only try to follow the rules. Have a good day 😃 Sergio Skol (talk) 00:40, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

:Hello,
:I see your point with the links, I will follow that logic moving forward, however I disagree with the rushing attempts being something that shouldn't be highlighted. For example, it is the first thing that is shown beside games and AV on PFR. To me, listing rushing attempts is really no different than stating a QBs pass completions or how many receptions a receiver has. I agree that rushing average may be a good thing to add to those stats, but I think if anything it should be listed with attempts, yards, and TDs. Following in this line of thinking, is there a reference that actually outlines the type of stats to add? It seems very vague and the "rules" seem more like personal preference. That is at least what I have noticed from editing these pages.
:I just want to be clear too, that I don't mean any of this in a "combative I'm gonna do what I want" sort of way lol. I'm willing to follow any rules that have been established, I'm just more curious about it to be honest. Again, if there is a reference that lays out "This position=these stats listed" I will happily follow that.
:Also, I appreciate the clarification on links, the last thing I want to do is add any rework to anyone's plate because I was too ignorant to know the rules.
:Thanks, Sandman766 (talk) 01:19, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

Duplicate links

Thanks for your helpful edits but please don't delink the first instance of years. You also might want to consider going back and fixing the ones you've already done. Thanks, <span style="color: blue">'''''~WikiOriginal-9~'''''</span> (<span style="color: blue">'''talk'''</span>) 15:41, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

:Hello. My thought process has been to keep the first instance, unless it is a case where they were on the practice squad/offseason roster and there is an instance with the same year where they were on an active roster. I've only done this because that's the way I was seeing it be done before me so I followed suit. If that isn't the method to be followed, however, I'll adjust to keeping the first instance regardless of roster status moving forward. :@Sandman766: Similar comment to your later change ↗ to NFL concussion settlement ↗, which didn't even redirect to the specific section. I've restored the redirect. Regards. —Bagumba (talk) 10:11, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
:Thank you for your edits Sandman but you continue to ignore our comments. Please take time to read WP:NOTBROKEN ↗. Allen Yellow Jackets ↗ (a redirect) should not be changed to Allen University#Athletics ↗. When someone creates the article Allen Yellow Jackets, it won't point to the correct page since you changed ↗ the link to Allen University#Athletics. Also if someone wanted to point the Allen Yellow Jackets football ↗ redirect to a different section of the article (like from Allen University#Athletics ↗ to Allen University#Football ↗ hypothetically), then it would only take one single edit ↗ to the redirect to link every article. However, if all the links were "fixed" beforehand, then we would have to make hundreds of unnecessary edits to rectify this. <span style="color: blue">'''''~WikiOriginal-9~'''''</span> (<span style="color: blue">'''talk'''</span>) 13:46, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

High school states

Hi Sandman, hope all is well. I've been told that when a players city and state of birth is the same as the high school city and state, the (high school state) should be removed. For example: Ken Burrough ↗. I removed some already .. just wanted you to know what I was up to. Thanks in advance. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:51, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

Might as well throw this out there also. If the high school has the same name as the players birth city, both the high school city and state are not needed in the infobox. Example: Hank Autry ↗, this is per Template:Infobox gridiron football biography#Parameters and instructions ↗. Thanks again. Bringingthewood (talk) 01:23, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

I hope there's an easy fix for the high schools. Not sure if you're using some sort of template, if so, I would remove anything high school from it. I checked your last 150 edits and it's becoming a punishment on my side. All states were put back, all city and states per template were put back, and even U.S. was removed for non-U.S. born players. Those three things can't happen. I'm guessing this could be in the thousands. Pretty please, with sugar on top, knock out the high school line. Not sure if you want to check all of these and amend them .. because I'm not looking for extra edits. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:10, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

:Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'm probably going to stop editing on here altogether due to the seemingly countless arbitrary rules in place, this being yet another good example. Again, appreciate you bringing this to my attention. Apologize for any additional work I may caused you. Sandman766 (talk) 22:12, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

::No, thank you for responding and understanding. Many others refuse to acknowledge anything. There are many rules and I felt the same way. As long as you don't get blocked, things can be fixed. Good luck going forward, and thanks again for the note. Regards, Bringingthewood (talk) 22:24, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

:Hi there, SM. Not sure if something went a bit off course, but WikiOriginal-9 added the infobox position format here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_National_Football_League/Player_pages_format#Miscellaneous_notes ↗. Check out John Cannady ↗'s revision history. Hope this was just a glitch of some kind. Bringingthewood (talk) 01:24, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
:Maybe this can be an easy fix, like the high schools. It's just this one thing, you can see that I edited the positions in April: Al Akins ↗. I'm trying to go back and fix what was done (without reverting anything). Bringingthewood (talk) 02:31, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
::Does this trump what is shown in the gridiron football infobox template where it lists positions on separate lines? Sandman766 (talk) 02:34, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
:::Good question, I'll find out. I've seen the biography going from NFL to gridiron and vice versa. It would be nice to have an easy button with this one. Thanks for the reply and the question. I'll be back. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:47, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
::::I'm back. I asked and this is what I received from WO-9.: I don't see anything about Template:Infobox gridiron football biography about positions being on two lines? But no, they don't go on two lines if there is enough room on one line for them. It's like that for every sport on Wikipedia (basketball, baseball).
::::What I would do, just go with this explanation, being that it's not an escalated problem at the moment. Nobody is wrong here, but I'd really hate to go back and forth gathering extra edits for no reason, I'm too old for that ****. let's keep it one big happy family, don't you agree? Ohio State

Thank you for your edits. The article is Ohio State Buckeyes, not "Ohio St." Buckeyes.
