Visa free for Bulgaria

Why does this article state that Bulgaria is visa free, while on the other hand, the official government page, regarding travelling, states it IS NOT? What are your sources? Cf. https://www.gov.sz/index.php/component/content/article/314-immigrants-requiring-visas-to-enter-the-kingdom-of-swaziland?Itemid=439IYI681 (talk) 15:57, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

:The source is https://forestersarms.co.za/img/Swaziland_Visa_Information.pdf. I think it would be better to wait until October. South Africa will introduce an ETA authorisation at the end of September, and Romania and Bulgaria will most likely be on the list, which will eliminate the visa requirements for South Africa. After that, I expect the Eswatini government to provide some clarifications, as its visa policy is closely linked to South Africa's. Ssdd.11 (talk) 11:04, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
::Yes, it is annoying seeing only a few EU countries needing a visa to visit, and one last question - do you have any info regarding the future of visa policy of Bolivia, Jamaica and Guyana - they are one of the few countries that do not reciprocate EU countries - we (Bulgaria and Romania) still require a visa to visit.
:::Thanks in advance
:::Christian IYI681 (talk) 11:11, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
::::Yes, but I would say it will take another one to three years, or even longer, for these countries to offer visa-free travel. They are not obligated by the EU to offer visa-free travel, as they don't have visa-free access to the Schengen Area.
::::Honestly, Jamaica and Bolivia don't play such a big role, as they offer visas on arrival, which counts as visa exemptions in passport rankinks.
::::Jamaica offers visa-free entry to Bulgarians and Romanians, provided they have a valid Schengen, Canadian, British, or US visa. The first one doesn't make sense, since Bulgaria and Romania are now part of the Schengen Area, but I haven't had time to email them. Perhaps the issue will be resolved when we join the US Visa Waiver Program.
::::https://www.pica.gov.jm/immigration/entry-visa-requirements
::::I don't think Bolivia and Guyana will grant visa-free access until they get visa-free access to the Schengen Area. Bolivia isn't in the best position right now, and perhaps not in the next five years, but Spain is steadily pushing for their accession. Guyana could join in the next few years, as many countries support accession and already issue biometric passports (another prerequisite for accession). However, a visa is required to enter Guyana throughout Eastern Europe, not just Bulgaria and Romania.
::::We may also receive further responses from the US in October, as Cyprus has a very low rejection rate and could join this year. They may accept all three countries, but given the current state of the Trump administration, you never know. The US counts six countries in the Henley Passport Index (they have many territories), which is why Bulgaria and Romania rank so poorly.
::::With the recent addition of Lesotho, Vietnam, and possibly South Africa, Eswatini, and the United States by the end of the year, Guyana will be the only country offering neither visa-free travel nor a visa on arrival. This is still a remarkable achievement, but we will see how the situation develops. Ssdd.11 (talk) 19:11, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
:::::Thank you, but I do not opine the US will lift visa requirements soon, under the previous Trump administration visa refusal rate went up (I hope that is not going to happen this year). We do not have any clear indications for your above-mentioned statement, before Trump assumed office refusal rate dropped to 6.04 percent for Bulgaria, the lowest ever, as far as I can recollect - Biden lifted visas for Romania (you guys have around 2 percent refusal rate), yet still Trump reimposed the visa regime.
:::::Greetings,
:::::Christian IYI681 (talk) 19:28, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
::::::I wanted to give an update here. I also want the situation with South Africa, Eswatini, and Lesotho to be resolved. I found their situation very interesting and I took this search as a hobby. Maybe to someone this information will be useful.
::::::South Africa has lifted visa requirements for the remaining EU countries, but unfortunately not for Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Slovakia. These countries are only eligible for the eVisa, which is a very poor system. It takes anywhere from 10 to 40 days to get approved, and in many cases you even need to message certain WhatsApp numbers to try to speed up the process. It feels very shady. Based on current information, the ETA system will not be ready until late 2026(only BRICS countries will get access this year), so I believe Bulgaria may only gain visa-free access then.
::::::Lesotho, on the other hand, has lifted visa requirements for the rest of the EU. There are numerous articles about this, and the South African embassy in Budapest even has a notice stating that this took effect in August. However, that paper is the only official source I could find, and it isn’t even available online. Lesotho’s embassies don’t respond to emails either — I might have to visit one in person when I have time since I live quite close to one. Timatic seems to have been updated (possibly by the government, though I have no idea who exactly), but Sherpa refuses to update their data.
::::::Eswatini is a completely different story. Nobody seems to know what is really happening, and some embassies don’t even have a list of visa-exempt countries and some misspell country names. Eventually, I managed to reach someone who I think updated Timatic, but they didn’t acknowledge past mistakes. Their so-called “government source” hasn’t been updated since 2015 and probably won’t be. I also don’t know how things actually work at the border, since there are no recorded cases of Romanians or Bulgarians crossing. My guess is that, with the right amount of money and an EU passport, they might just let people through.
::::::There is an agency, Melula Travel, that deals with this process and gets their customers a visa on arrival, but they are very expensive. Personally, I think if someone insists strongly enough at the border that they are EU citizens, they would be allowed entry. Just yesterday, someone emailed that an investigation into Eswatini’s visa policy was being conducted, but honestly, I doubt they really care.
::::::It’s quite sad that these countries don’t even publish a clear, official visa policy online. And if they do, in cases like Eswatini, the information isn’t even properly formatted or updated.
::::::Best regards,
::::::Ssdd.11 (talk) 22:09, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
:::::::After this situation is resolved, there’s also Australia to think about. Honestly, I don’t really know what to believe there. They publish updated reports every six months with their visa approval rates. Bulgaria has been improving a lot even getting close to 95% — surprisingly so — so clearly something is being done right.
:::::::https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/research-and-stats/files/visitor-visa-june-2025.pdf
:::::::Romania, however, still has an approval rate of only 61%. That’s incredibly low, considering that almost all other countries are above 90%. I think Romania might actually be close to India’s approval rate, which says a lot.
:::::::Of course, one thing to keep in mind is that eVisitor applications are free and can be submitted multiple times, which is definitely an advantage. There’s also the widespread idea that every single application goes through manual review, but that’s not true. Most do, but not all. Processing usually takes anywhere from 5 to 20 days. They cleary have something with Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania as they are the only ones that ever go below 97-98%
:::::::Just out of curiosity, I tried applying once myself, without even providing proof of funds — and I got it instantly. That’s surprising, because for Romanians this almost never happens. So maybe the situation isn’t as bad as it used to be, at least in some cases. Ssdd.11 (talk) 22:24, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
::::::::Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that visas for South Africa have been removed. Can it be confirmed? IYI681 (talk) 19:27, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
:::::::::Yes, you are right — I believe this change took effect today. Now all EU countries have visa free acces to South Africa.
:::::::::https://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/immigration-services/exempt-countries
:::::::::I will update the map and the information on the Visa Policy of South Africa and Visa Requirements for Bulgarian Citizens pages accordingly.
:::::::::I expect Timatic to reflect the update within the next few days, followed by the Passport Index and the Henley Passport Index at the beginning of next month.
:::::::::Lesotho and Eswatini are now also visa-free for all EU citizens according to Timatic and both major passport indexes, so we can consider them finalized as well. Unfortunately, there’s no official online list for Lesotho, but the embassy in Brussels can confirm the change.
:::::::::For Eswatini, the official list has not been updated yet, though the information on Timatic is what ultimately matters in practice.
:::::::::Another update: It appears that Bolivia no longer offers a visa on arrival at airports for Group 2 countries except for U.S. citizens. The VOA option has been removed from Timatic, although some travelers report that it might still be obtainable at land borders. There is no official statement confirming this change—only a brief note on the website of the South Korean embassy in Bolivia, which makes the situation rather unclear. In general, however, if the visa information is missing from Timatic, travelers are likely to be denied boarding.
:::::::::That said, I will leave it to someone with more expertise to update the Bolivia information on Wikipedia. Ssdd.11 (talk) 19:55, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
::::::::::Thanks! IYI681 (talk) 20:54, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
:::::::::::Bolivia is now visa free. Did not expect it that fast. https://cancilleria.gob.bo/mre/2025/12/01/23577/
:::::::::::All that's left now is Jamaica and USA. Also Guyana, but to that one all of eastern Europe needs a visa. Ssdd.11 (talk) 17:48, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
::::::::::::Yes, almost as we had predicted it. I dont know why Jamaica discriminates against us tho. IYI681 (talk) 17:55, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
:::::::::::::The Jamaica one is the most absurd in my opinion.
:::::::::::::"NO visa required for 30 days or less as tourists (Effective September 22, 2014) providing they have a USA, Canada, UK or Schengen Visa & possess proof of vaccination against Measles, Rubella & Polio."
:::::::::::::Like we are part of the Schengen Area and can enter the UK and Canada visa free(ETA). I guess they just have not updated it in a while. https://www.pica.gov.jm/immigration/entry-visa-requirements Ssdd.11 (talk) 17:57, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
::::::::::::::Yes, you could be right. Do you know anything about Mongolia? We have a temporary visa exemption until 31.12. Is there any news regarding whether they will extend it further or not? IYI681 (talk) 18:22, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
:::::::::::::::I don't know, I forgot about it. From what I remember in the past there was a visa on arrival regime they could switch us back to that. Ssdd.11 (talk) 18:24, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
:::::::Thank you very much, let's hope we will achieve full reciprocity with the aforementioned countries by 2030.
:::::::Best regards,

Update Australia, New Zealand, Canada and United Kingdom in light green as eVisa (#61C7A1) eligible for Albanian citizens

@Ssdd.11 Hi dear Ssdd.11! I am from Albania and I have a request. I have seen that you have edited the visa requirements for Albanian citizens article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_requirements_for_Albanian_citizens

I want to ask you, on the visa requirements map for Albanian citizens: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Visa_Requirements_for_Albanian_Citizens.svg#mw-jump-to-license can you update Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom with the color #61C7A1 as eVisa eligible for Albanian citizens to travel to these countries. Since Albanian citizens can travel with an eVisa to these countries. Thanks KeidaCufjaKC (talk) 10:32, 14 April 2026 (UTC)

Visa on Arrival for Syria

Hi there,

Great job on working on the Visa on Arrival section for Syria's visa policy!

'''I would like to know where you got the majority of information from?'''

I checked on the Emirates website for visa requires for UK citizens. It states '''"Passengers with a British passport with nationality "British Citizen" can obtain a visa upon arrival for a maximum of 30 days. Journalists require a prior approval from the MOFA of Syria."''' And if you do the same with Austria which is an EU state '''"Nationals of Austria can obtain a visa upon arrival for a maximum of 30 days. Journalists require a prior approval from the MOFA of Syria."'''

I just want to check and confirm it.

Thanks again! Aussiebear2343 (talk) 15:37, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

:Hi. Timatic might just have updated today. The UK was not listed 5 days ago. See if you can find more countries. It is quite hard to check since you have to do it manually. I will update the map and then submit it to Passport Index. https://www.passportindex.org/comparebyDestination.php?p1=sy&y1=2026 Ssdd.11 (talk) 21:33, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
::Hello there. Ah okay, I understand now. Yeah I will have a check to find more countries.
::Let's hope Passport Index does accept it, as I send a request already. Weirdly enough Passport Index didn't include Ireland for E-Visa & Visa on Arrival, as it's an EU country.
::Thanks again! Aussiebear2343 (talk) 21:40, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
:::They might have just missed it. I sent them a few days ago that all EU/EEA countries and the US can obtain a VoA, and it was updated the next day. Sometimes it takes a few days; it’s not always updated the next day. Ssdd.11 (talk) 21:46, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
::::Yeah that could be why. Well let's hope they update the systems soon. :) Aussiebear2343 (talk) 21:57, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

The borders of Ukraine on maps

Hi there! I noticed a couple of days ago that you had updated the map in the articles on visa policy. I don’t know what your position is on the war between Russia and Ukraine, but Ukraine’s borders are incorrectly drawn. The DPR and LPR no longer exist, and Crimea is part of Ukraine; the international community, apart from a couple of rogue states, does not recognise the annexed territories of Ukraine. Could you please correct here ( Visa policy of the United Kingdom, Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Moldova, Russia, Nepal, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, the US , Belize, Cuba, Guyana, Libya, Zimbabwe, Namibia, the Gambia, Kenya, Somalia, Eritrea)? Thank you. Sobac49 (talk) 10:52, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

:It’s just too much, and I haven’t even edited some of them. We also need to keep the maps in a text-editable format and not use Inkscape. I don’t think it matters that much, but I’ll keep this in mind for the future. Ssdd.11 (talk) 14:15, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
::Countries like the US, the UK and Saudi Arabia used to have the right maps, but then you changed them and now they’re wrong… Sobac49 (talk) 14:43, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
::Until the admins update :File:BlankMap-World.svg ↗ it will stay this way as all maps rely on that one to have consistency. Ssdd.11 (talk) 14:44, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
:::They were updated by @Everyonesvisa not by me, please also tell him this. I agree with you! Ssdd.11 (talk) 14:46, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
::::@Everyonesvisa lets put .xd, .xj, .xl, .xn, .xp {opacity: 0;} on future maps since LPR, DPR, Karabakh no longer exist. Transnistria does not have any effect in visa policy maps and they do not really have their own passport. This .xj I have no idea what it has to do with Pakistan it should also be hidden. I see that Crimea is part of .ru on :File:BlankMap-World.svg ↗ so I would keep it like that. What is your take on this? Ssdd.11 (talk) 14:59, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::Crimea is an internationally recognised part of Ukraine; therefore, following this logic, the Golan Heights should be considered part of Israel, not Syria. It is better to adhere to the UN’s official position. Sobac49 (talk) 15:06, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::I know but on the BlankMap-World.svg it is part of Russia and they say that "Crimea (disputed between Ukraine and Russia, de facto within Russia, CSS xq): grouped into controlling state by default".
::::::It will just have to be edited manually every single time as an "independent" country. Let's wait for @Everyonesvisa. I will also take his position on this as he edits most of the maps now. Ssdd.11 (talk) 15:12, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Also @Everyonesvisa, I would like to know your take on South Ossetia(.xo), Abkhazia(.xa), and Northern Cyprus(.xc). Should we hide them as well from visa maps? In visa requirements maps, I agree that they should stay, but in visa policy maps, I don’t think they are that important and could be hidden. Ssdd.11 (talk) 15:24, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
:::looking at the issue, I see it was about the visa policy map.
:::@Ssdd.11 is correct. It would be good to treat the .xd, .xj, .xl, .xn, and .xp extensions with {opacity: 0;}. Let's each find the places where that mark appears and handle it. (except Russia map) :)
:::I have already edited Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, South Korea, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UK.
:::Also since separate Visa policies are in place for .xa, .xc, and .xo extensions, I think it's good to keep them as they are. Personally, I share your opinion, but ehh.. travelers actually need to obtain a visa when visiting those places (.xa, .xc).. sorry but i hope you understand this point. :) Everyonesvisa (talk) 01:59, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
::::Yes, let's do it this way! All the best! Ssdd.11 (talk) 09:34, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Good luck

I nod in admiration of your information skills.

I'll significantly reduce my participation in the WIKI.

I've long felt fatigued by the various editing controversies, but seeing your achievements today, I thought that the time has come.

Since you can update maps as well as edit, I have decided to trust you for your many accomplishments.

Of course, I still don't fully trust IATA. However, I believe you will be able to effectively inform the world about visa situations.

I plan to edit sections on Japan, Russia, S.Korea and USA occasionally in the future.

(Depending on the situation, there is also a possibility that I'll return to the WIKI.)

For reference, regarding the duration of stay in Libya.. after reviewing the links you provided, I found that it is 30 days at a time and 90 days per year. In other words, the duration of stay is 30 days.

Also, Ghana's e-Visa is scheduled to be launched soon, so please take a look.

Anyway OK, I will trust you. Good luck. Everyonesvisa (talk) 17:42, 16 May 2026 (UTC)

:I think you just worked a bit too hard on it, because I see that you edited them almost every single day.
:On the big countries' pages I haven't encountered that many problems, to be honest. Also, I gave up on the pages that have not been updated in years. In fact, I didn't even try to edit them. You are right, they usually have a stubborn user or someone like the Albania one. In the end, it's just a few pages that get all the traffic, and if people want, they can just check the Visa Policy pages.
:I will mainly look after the Visa Policy pages and the rest just occasionally. With IATA, I do not know. I told them about Chad and Gabon, and they do not know if it's true and "will check", but will keep Chad and Gabon as exceptions from IATA and keep them visa free. In those African countries it is how it is, you know what I mean. I also do not trust IATA for the duration of stay and the visa-free/on arrival distinction in general it is juts informative I think.
:The Emiratis look like they have contact with Henley and Passport Index, as they are the only ones that get exceptions from the IATA rule, which is very odd, but I will let them be. Noting gets through if it is not on IATA.
:You really have contributed the most around here recently, so it is sad to see you go. All the best. Ssdd.11 (talk) 18:39, 16 May 2026 (UTC)

Visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens

Hello! Could you please update the map for Ukrainian citizens? Thank you. Sobac49 (talk) 06:23, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

:Done. If I missed something you can open with a text editor and move the countries. Like .br from the Visa free category to the VoA. Ghana eVisa is coming in a few days. Ssdd.11 (talk) 11:59, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
::Thank you. But I meant updating the colours on the map - the information there is out of date. If possible, could you update it? Sobac49 (talk) 16:02, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
:::I think it is ok, what is not up to date there? Ssdd.11 (talk) 16:41, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
::::For example, Afghanistan, Nicaragua, Venezuela etc. Unfortunately , I don’t have any experience editing maps. But I guess it would be much easier for you to do it. Sobac49 (talk) 22:51, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::Done. Ssdd.11 (talk) 19:19, 18 May 2026 (UTC)

Visa policy of Gabon

Can you also update the visa policy map of Gabon that restricts the issuance of visas to U.S. citizens?

Thanks! Ishagaturo (talk) 07:05, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

:I saw your message but I also need to ask for permission to edit that map. Will do it one day, I don't think it is that important. Have a great day! Ssdd.11 (talk) 14:14, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
