Australian articles

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Please refrain from making test edits in Wikipedia pages, even if you intend to fix them later. Your edits have been reverted ↗. If you would like to experiment again, please use your sandbox. Thank you.<!-- Template:uw-test2 -->

The removal of the word Brisbane from articles will not be tolerated. In addition, inserting sources that do not confirm the text in the article will not be tolerated. Many of your edits break the Wikipedia:No original research ↗, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view ↗ and/or Wikipedia:Verifiability ↗. Many of your actions are destructive. If you continue to do so, your account will be reported to blocking or topic ban (of Australia topic). TravelerFromEuropeanUnion (talk) 13:57, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

:I have done none of the things you accuse me of, and I have not conducted any so-called “original research”. All the references I employ are from official sources, and are only used to support information in the articles. If you wish to specify the location of local government areas as being within the Greater Brisbane area, then I suggest that your edits comply with the proper grammatical conventions of Australian English. Otherwise, your account may be the one to be reported. StellaAquila (talk) 14:26, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

::"'' I suggest that your edits comply with the proper grammatical conventions of Australian English. Otherwise, your account may be the one to be reported''" - not using Australian grammar on Wikipedia does not break any Wikipedia rules. This is just a recommendation. If you report it, there will be no consequences for me.
::However, your falsification of sources in relation to content is seriously damaging Wikipedia, and the consequences will be severe. Also, the removal of the word "Brisbane" from articles https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Somerset_Region&diff=prev&oldid=1234568367 ↗ will not be tolerated. Naming Brisbane as a region - your original research ↗ https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=City_of_Ipswich&diff=prev&oldid=1234568509 ↗ also will not be tolerated. '''This is the last warning'''. TravelerFromEuropeanUnion (talk) 01:42, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Yatala Drive-in

One thing to love about Queensland is how we draw the suburb boundaries so that things that you might think are in one suburb turn out to be in another. It happens all the time. If you want to see the current and accurate boundaries for suburbs, the Queensland Government's Qld Globe ↗ is the authority on boundaries, although Google Maps is pretty good too (if you just search it for the suburb name, it will draw the boundaries for you), but if the two disagree, the Qld Globe is authoritative. What I usually do in situations like this is add a mention of the "thing" in the article-you-might-have-expected saying something like "Despite its name, Thing is actually in SomeWhereElse." This helps other contributors from making the same mistake. Off to do that now with the Yatala Drive-In. Kerry (talk) 06:46, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

:Ah, apologies. I forgot that the drive-in is technically in Stapylton. StellaAquila (talk) 06:52, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

e.g.

I notice you have replaced some "e.g." with "for example" and thought you might like to know that "e.g." is actually the preferred form according to the Wikipedia Manual of Style ↗ (which is fairly large and covers a wide range of stuff), so just look specifically at this section that deals with common abbreviations ↗. Sooner or later someone who likes to copyedit will replace your "for example" back to "e.g." so I thought I should mention it so you don't waste more time doing it.

I don't know if you are interested, but there is a monthly Zoom session organised by Wikimedia Australia on Wed afternoon called "Drop In and Wiki ↗" which is a informal chat to meet other Australian Wikipedians, talk about what you are working on, ask questions, etc. No need to register, just use the Zoom link at the URL above. If that time slot doesn't suit, you can organise a one-on-one session to chat with someone at a time that suits you better. Just ask at contact@wikimedia.org.au Kerry (talk) 08:28, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = You have recently edited a page related to '''the Arab–Israeli conflict ↗''', a topic designated as '''''contentious ↗'''''. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and <em>does <strong>not</strong> imply that there are any issues with your editing</em>.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as ''contentious topics''. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee ↗. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators ↗ have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit <strong>carefully and constructively</strong>, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

<p>Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days ↗, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.</p><p>Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics ''procedures'', you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard ↗ or you may learn more about this contentious topic here ↗. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{tl|Ctopics/aware}} template. As a note, per these community-authorized general sanctions, there is a one-revert rule in place for all articles related to the Syrian Civil War and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, broadly construed ↗. This means that an editor in this area may make no more than one revert per article per 24 hour period ↗, unless an obvious exception applies ↗. Please let me know if you have any questions about this </p>}}<!-- Derived from Template:Contentious topics/alert/first --> <span style="font-family:Arial;background-color:#fff;border:2px dashed#69c73e"><span style="color:#3f6b39">'''Cowboygilbert'''</span> - <span style="color:#d12667"> (talk) ♥</span></span> 05:18, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Wallabies

The Wallabies article should either say that it is the Representative Team of the Country or the Representative Team of the Governing Body. If you want to change, make sure it says that it represents the Australian Rugby Union ↗ and not Australia ↗ as technically they do not represent every single piece of land or person in Australia, just the people who want to play for the National Team. Thank you Servite et contribuere (talk) 15:05, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

:Fair enough. However, the fact remains that Australia is not technically a nation in the traditional sense, but rather, is defined as a country or sovereign state. As such, I've amended the article to remove the word "nation", but have left the remainder of your edit. I've also taken the liberty of highlighting "Wallabies", being the team's official nickname. StellaAquila (talk) 15:18, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
::StellaAquila How about we truly bring it line with other national team articles like France ↗, Scotland ↗ and England national rugby union team ↗. The idea it represents a nation is ultimately just a spiritual belief TBH. It doesn't technically represent a country unless a statue specifies it. Also, when can use the term Australian Rugby Union ↗ instead of Rugby Australia ↗ in accordance with WP:NOTBROKEN ↗. Thank you Servite et contribuere (talk) 15:24, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

Premiership of Jeremy Rockliff

alt=Information icon|25x25px ↗ Hi! Firstly, I would like to thank you for the time you took to contribute to Premiership of Jeremy Rockliff ↗. However, I have had to make amendments to your edit as some are in violation of wikipedia rules and standards. For example, here ↗ you added an entire paragraph that was largely unsourced. You also had a smaller paragraph in which you misused a source by making a statement that was completely unsupported by the source you used. In the future, just be a bit more careful as to your sourcing. Thanks! <span style="color:#00843D">'''Deadly'''</span><span style="color:#B59410">'''Rampage'''</span><span style="color: darkgreen">'''26'''</span> (Chat) 10:07, 12 June 2025 (UTC)

:I appreciate the feedback, but I believe you might have made a mistake. The unreferenced paragraph you speak of was in fact referenced by this ABC article ↗. There wasn't any information in my edit that didn't come straight out of the original source. StellaAquila (talk) 18:42, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
::It is improper to rely on an entire large paragraph with one citation. I will go back and check again soon but i believe the source you misused was a Pulse article. <span style="color:#00843D">'''Deadly'''</span><span style="color:#B59410">'''Rampage'''</span><span style="color: darkgreen">'''26'''</span> (Chat) 22:49, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
::Yep so you said this "The reversal was seen as a response to backlash against proposed asset sales which, in addition to poor fiscal management and project delivery, was cited as a key reason why Labor brought forward the no-confidence vote." Which was completely unsupported by the source you used. It is also a violation of WP:NPOV ↗ and WP:CITE ↗. <span style="color:#00843D">'''Deadly'''</span><span style="color:#B59410">'''Rampage'''</span><span style="color: darkgreen">'''26'''</span> (Chat) 22:53, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
:::Okay, but you still haven't explained why you deleted the whole other paragraph that was fully supported by the citation. Before removing other people's work, you might want to check whether the source corroborates the information in the article. You also merged the end of the paragraph you deleted with a prior paragraph that covers a completely different topic. StellaAquila (talk) 23:01, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
::::It was not supported by an inline citation as per WP:CITETYPE ↗. You are supposed to use inline citations for every statement that could be reasonably challenged (WP:WHYCITE ↗) which was not present there. You are welcome to add back the bits I excluded if you can find reliable citations to use inline at reasonably challenged statements and remove the non-NPOV language. <span style="color:#00843D">'''Deadly'''</span><span style="color:#B59410">'''Rampage'''</span><span style="color: darkgreen">'''26'''</span> (Chat) 23:05, 12 June 2025 (UTC)

If it pleases you, I can replace the direct quotations with a shorter summary to comply with WP:V ↗. StellaAquila (talk) 23:28, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
::::::thats not what reasonably challenged means. <span style="color:#00843D">'''Deadly'''</span><span style="color:#B59410">'''Rampage'''</span><span style="color: darkgreen">'''26'''</span> (Chat) 11:41, 13 June 2025 (UTC)

Queensland police. Sworn officer vs police officer (Jul 2026)

You made two changes ↗ to Queensland Police Service ↗. Please note in Queensland legislation there is no such thing as a ''sworn'' officer. A police officer may be ''sworn'' or ''unsworn'', and equally there are some sworn staff members. See s.&nbsp;2.2(1) ↗ of the ''Police Service Administration Act 1990'' (and ss.&nbsp;4, 5, 6A, and 6B of the Regulation). And yes, the ministerial statement ↗ uses incorrect terms (including overcapitalisation, and Pointing is an interim commissioner. He is not appointed to act or relieve up as a commissioner. He is ''the'' commissioner, just for a twelve-month term). Now changed back.–Q8682 (talk) 12:24, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
