Welcome back!
Welcome back to Wikipedia and thanks for your efforts to clean up vandalism! I highly recommend checking out this guide, Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism โ. An easy way to warn editors after reverting their edits is to use the tool Twinkle, available in the Gadgets section of your preferences page. Parksfan1955 (talk) 07:31, 26 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello The Sophocrat. Regarding the recent revert you made: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace โ useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox โ. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal โ when they've been previously warned. Thank you.<!-- Template:Uw-warn --> โ'''<span style="color:black;">Hiro</span><span style="color:blue;">wo</span>''''''<span style="color:red;">Wiki</span>''' '''(๐ โ)''' 03:45, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
:Yeah, I use those templates a lot. I just usually don't use them when the IP in question has made a singular unconstructive edit in their history, as I believe such IPs are unlikely to edit again soon and a talk page notice may prompt them to edit more (probably unconstructively in such cases). I might be wrong though, and maybe I should also use them in such cases... Anyhow, thanks for the advice.
:P.S. I occasionally leave personalized messages on talk pages when I believe it will be significantly more effective than a template. Just so you know that's intentional. The Sophocrat (talk) 03:54, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

Carter v Canada - edit was censored
I wrote a brief comment about why Carter v Canada was wrongly and poorly decided. It got cut out/ deleted. It looks like Wikipedia does not like criticisms of this judicial decision. This is active censorship. There is so much to criticize this case for - and Wikipedia calls giving that criticism not neutral. The only way to appear neutral is to say nothing negative about the case, that is not neutral, that is supportive. AustralianLawyer4455 (talk) 05:36, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
:There seems to be a misunderstanding. We {{em|can}}, and often do, include negative coverage of a subject. However, the text must not be our own opinions but rather the interpretations of reliable sources โ. I assure you myself and most other editors have nothing to do with that case; we only wish to improve the encyclopedia. If you can find reliable sources that criticize (or cover criticism of) the case, then you are welcome to add them (see this guide on how to cite your sources โ). Have a nice day :) –The Sophocrat (talk) 20:21, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

Rollback granted
right|130px โ
Hi The Sophocrat. After reviewing your request, I have <span class="plainlinks">enabled โ</span> '''rollback โ''' on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:
- Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle โ or Ultraviolet โ. It just adds a ''[rollback]'' button next to a page's latest live revision. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
- Rollback should be used to revert <em>clear and unambiguous cases</em> of vandalism {{emu|only}}. <em>Never</em> use rollback to revert good faith edits. For more information about when rollback is appropriate, see {{section link|Wikipedia:Rollback|When to use rollback}}.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war โ, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the permission will be revoked.
- Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, <strong>''ask!''</strong>

Guide to temporary accounts
Hello, The Sophocrat. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
'''Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed.''' Instead, they will have a '''temporary account โ''' (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer โ (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
'''How do temporary accounts work?'''
thumb|350px|Editing from a temporary account โ
- When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: <code>~2025-12345-67</code> (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
- All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
- A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer โ (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
- As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
- * There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
- * There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
'''Temporary account IP viewer user right'''
thumb|350px|How to enable IP Reveal โ
- Administrators may grant the '''temporary account IP viewer โ''' (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting โ. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV โ)โadministrators are <strong>not</strong> permitted to assign the right without a request.
- Administrators will <em>automatically</em> be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy โ via Special:Preferences โ or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.
'''Impact for administrators'''
- It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock โ option.
- It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
- Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions โ, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions โ for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
'''Rules about IP information disclosure'''
- Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally โ not allowed (e.g. {{!tq|~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1}} or {{!tq|~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1}}).
- Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. {{tq|~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR โ}}, but not {{!tq|Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67}})
- See {{section link|Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer|What can and can't be said}} for more detailed guidelines.
'''Useful tools for patrollers'''
- It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card โ, available in {{Preferences|Appearance|Advanced options|check={{int:checkuser-userinfocard-enable-preference-description}}}}
- * This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
- Special:IPContributions โ allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
- Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions โ supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
- The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Administrator Elections - Call for Candidates
<div style="border: 5px solid #ABCDEF; padding:0.5em 1em">
<div style="display:flex; align-items:center;">
<div>
The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at '''Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Candidates โ'''.
Here is the schedule:
- November 25 โ December 1 - Call for candidates
- December 4โ8 - Discussion phase
- December 9โ15 - SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
- The requirements to run are identical to RFA โโa prospective candidate must be extended confirmed โ.
- Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful โ and unsuccessful โ RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for admin elections candidates โ, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing โ.
- The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
- The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is '''no official difference''' between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
- Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors โ.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page โ. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Administrator Elections - Discussion Phase

<div>
The discussion phase of the December 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- Dec 4โ8 - Discussion phase ('''we are here''')
- Dec 9โ15 - SecurePoll voting phase
- Scrutineering phase
We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship โ. You may discuss the candidates at '''Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Discussion phase''' โ.
On December 9, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll โ software to vote, which uses a secret ballot โ. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed โ to vote.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which typically lasts between a couple days and a week. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page โ (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page โ. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate who has not been recalled โ must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. A candidate that has been recalled must have at least 55.0% support โ. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions โ ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page โ. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page โ (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page โ. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall โ candidates must achieve 55.0% support โ. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions โ ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page โ. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

May 2026 Administrator Election โ Call for Candidates
<div style="border: 5px solid #ABCDEF; padding: 0.5em 1em 0 1em;" role="article">
right|80px โ
The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at '''Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Candidates โ'''.
Here is the schedule:
- April 29 โ May 5: Call for candidates
- May 8โ12: Discussion phase
- May 13โ19: SecurePoll voting phase

May 2026 Administrator Elections โ Voting Phase
<div style="border: 5px solid #ABCDEF; padding: 0.5em 1em 0 1em;" role="article">
right|80px โ
The voting phase of the May 2026 administrator elections has started and will continue until {{Administrator elections status/data|May 2026|end}} at {{Administrator election time|end}} UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at '''Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Voting phase โ'''.
As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- {{Administrator elections/Header/daterange|May 2026|begin|end}}: SecurePoll voting phase ('''we are here''')
- Scrutineering phase
In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote โ has a week to use the SecurePoll โ software to vote, which uses a secret ballot โ. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements โ are similar to those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page โ (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page โ.
