Stop reverting non-free images
Stop reverting non-free images, including those specifically uploaded by ArleneHerman. Some of these have already been legitimate in their 316x316 size (making them viewable in preview tabs and higher quality in general while maintaining a proper size) by DatBot. Just because it's 200x200 or something like that doesn't mean it's better. The original uploads are usually degraded and uploaded in some time like 2006. - RTSthestardust (talk) 21:48, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
:The images have been altered in an AI-powered editing software, per WP:AIGI ↗ these shouldn't be used as they can introduce inaccuracies. Image files do not 'degrade' either. Traumnovelle (talk) 02:39, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
::oooooooooh, that makes sense. - RTSthestardust (talk) 02:59, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
:::https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/archive/6/66/20260503000321%21Morrison_Movies.jpg ↗ is quite an obvious example, you can put it through a noise viewer and see that it has the unnatural noise that AI generates. Compared to https://restory-music.com/cdn/shop/files/IMG-20250128_201820_900x.jpg?v=1738072194 ↗ or the original https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/archive/6/66/20260501221544%21Morrison_Movies.jpg ↗
:::Perhaps I should have used an edit summary in the reversions, there were quite a lot so I figured I'd be fine reverting and leaving a note on the talk page of the uploader. Traumnovelle (talk) 03:01, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
::::Hi both. These higher quality album covers I added, none were touched using AI from my end. They were from the official streaming sources and studios. My apologies here. I will remember this going forward. ArleneHerman (talk) 20:12, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::Perhaps you didn't intentionally use AI but Pixelmator Pro boasts of being 'AI-powered' and the images have evidently been through some sort of AI processing.
:::::Just look at the version you uploaded https://x0.at/ElQ4.png ↗ compared to the original https://x0.at/1SWK.png ↗ and a higher res https://x0.at/6q_8.png ↗ version I found online.
:::::This has been true for all the other ones I checked https://x0.at/x2M7.png ↗ https://x0.at/pDBY.png ↗ Traumnovelle (talk) 20:22, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::You're a legend for checking this. I had no idea. I was only using the resize down function with Pixelmator Pro. So again, my apologies. Thank you honestly for checking. I will only use preview to resize going forward. I know and understand it uses AI to upscale but didn't know this on down scaling. (I did no upscaling). Thank you! ArleneHerman (talk) 22:52, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Its okay, I guess the application doesn't make it obvious that its AI. I recommend using GIMP, which doesn't (to my knowledge) have any AI features. Traumnovelle (talk) 03:41, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::::Thank you. No it doesn't. I appreciate your help here. Apologies for the trouble. Yes I will use GIMP. Much appreciated. ArleneHerman (talk) 04:00, 10 May 2026 (UTC)

Closing the discussion
Kia ora Traumnovelle - can you please explain how my comment in that section was off topic? I was encouraging the IP editor to gather reliable sources that can be used to improve the article, rather than continue with unproductive arguing. I don't see how that's counterproductive or off-topic. Turnagra (talk) 20:51, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
:I was referring to thread itself, not your comment specifically. I believe the thread would likely just continue to be unproductive arguments about things unrelated to the article hence why I hatted it. You are free to reverse my edit although I believe that if the thread is unhatted it will resolve back to arguments that are unrelated to the article. You can repost your comment to the IP's talk page. Traumnovelle (talk) 23:08, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
Pīpipi
Thanks for the ping. Did you mean to give 'Creeper' a capital 'C' in your proposal? It doesn't comply with Wikipedia:WikiProject Birds#Bird names and article titles ↗, so won't pass, and I presume it's not what you intended. Nurg (talk) 01:53, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
:I'll edit that, thanks. Traumnovelle (talk) 02:01, 18 May 2026 (UTC)

Archive.is
You are wasting your breath suggesting that there might be some merit to not removing an archive.is link. I and a couple of other editors have tried this on multiple occasions, but there are too many editors who extremely vocally do not believe that the long-term verifiability of content is something of any importance relative to killing archive.today with fire. Thryduulf (talk) 09:28, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
:I fear that the system is so prone to abuse too. Any smart LTA just needs to make a vandal edit where an archive.is link is removed and it will be impossible to automatically revert for non-admins. Traumnovelle (talk) 09:45, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
::Add it to the list of problems that were hadwaved away. The decisions around removing that site were the result of something closer to a moral panic than to a rational discussion. Thryduulf (talk) 09:51, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Variable spelling within articles
Hi Traumnovelle,
I can see that the wikipedia page is called Otakou ↗. But I had thought that the beauty of piping an extra name e.g. [ [name|text] ] is that one can use spelling variants without disrupting a wikilink. For example, when mentioning plants or animals - the wiki page usually has the scientific name as its link, so I'll usually put the common name in the piped link (e.g., Rimu ↗).
Yes I could start the RfC process for Otakou ↗ as well (and then have to find and fix all mentions of it on wikipedia). But the macron debate, which I thought we had finalised, is exhausting and I don't really want to go through all that right now. So I thought it was reasonable to simply correct the spelling on the Otago Peninsula page without having to dive down that rabbit hole!
TreeReader (talk) 13:16, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
:The example you gave is a valid example of a piped link as its from a common name to a scientific name. If 'Otakou' is the wrong spelling the article title should be changed to adjust that, you shouldn't go around changing the spelling to the 'correct' spelling without consensus for it. Traumnovelle (talk) 20:42, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
::Piping it is the worst way to go about it too as it won't be detected and thus won't be changed if the article title is changed at a requested move as well.
::The guidance at WP:NCNZ ↗ states: 'Where the commonly used name is of Māori origin, use the spelling as defined in the New Zealand Gazetteer if the entry is labelled "official". Do not take guidance from the New Zealand Gazetteer if the entry is labelled as "not official"; in this case Wikipedia's normal naming policy applies.', and the entry for Otakou is unofficial and lacks a macron. I will reference Omarama ↗, which had a proposal to include a macron but two spellings (one with two macrons, one with just one over the O) were used amongst the sources with the spelling ultimately coming down to what the etymology is (the etymology is debated and nothing authoritative supports one over the other). Choosing one spelling would ultimately be accepting one etymology as correct over the other.
::I don't know what the case is for Otakou and I don't know how I would vote at a requested move, but there is a reason we have these processes in place and they should be followed instead of changing the spelling in an article but keeping the title the same. Traumnovelle (talk) 03:33, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
Who is following who?
When you reverted my recent change ↗ to Frances Ross ↗, your Edit summary included "please stop following me around". If you look at the full history of this page, you may notice that it is a page to which I made signficant contributions in 2021 and 2023. Similarly, many of the edits you have been making to the Wānaka page are in paragraphs that I have contributed to over the years.
Can we just note that we appear to have many interests in common? Somej (talk) 02:49, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
:You've never edited Herbert nor the Okahukura Peninsula before, yet after reverting me at Wanaka you've edited three articles I've recently edited, with only one article being one you've edited in the past. Yes there is overlap in some articles, and I can concede perhaps Frances Ross was you following your watchlist but the others? Traumnovelle (talk) 03:14, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
::you will see that I created the page Angus Ross (historian) ↗, so I hope it is not surprising that I follow that one closely to see if edits to it are constructive and in good faith. It piqued my curiosity that another editor was as equally interested in Wānaka and the Ross family of Herbert as I am.
::You may be reassured however that I have no interest in cats, cocaine, or Kaipara. Somej (talk) 03:21, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
:::My edits to the Ross family were primarily with regards to removing the unsourced claim of Herbert and adding the wikilink to the article Otepopo ↗, I did try and improve the initial early life for Angus Ross but couldn't access either of the obits. Traumnovelle (talk) 03:27, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
Taxonomy
From Binomial_nomenclature ↗:
:The abbreviation "sp." is used when the actual specific name cannot or need not be specified. The abbreviation "spp." (standing for species pluralis, Latin for "multiple species") indicates "several species". These abbreviations are not italicised (or underlined).[62][63] For example: "Canis sp." means "an unspecified species of the genus Canis", while "Canis spp." means "two or more species of the genus Canis". (These abbreviations should not be confused with the abbreviations "ssp." (zoology) or "subsp." (botany), plurals "sspp." or "subspp.", referring to one or more subspecies. See trinomen (zoology) and infraspecific name.)
Relevant to your revision comment https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ōkahukura_Peninsula&diff=1357169946&oldid=1357169438 ↗ on Ōkahukura_Peninsula ↗. Your rewording does however get around the original confusion.Somej (talk) 04:29, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
:I meant species as in plural in my edit summary, I just forgot/didn't clarify that. I think the source chose a really odd example given I don't see any proposals relating to that, and that the predator free fence would assist the existing population rather than bringing in new ones (which would be a later project). I guess the authors went with the most notable New Zealand brid. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:55, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Translation of publisher name for citation in article Rottweiler ↗
Hi Traumnovelle, I saw your repeated revert of my edit on Rottweiler ↗, where you replaced the original publisher's name. To my understanding, WP:CITEHOW ↗ applies here, which reads ''"the citation information should be cited as it appears in the original source"''. None of the stated exceptions apply in this case. Was this maybe a mistake of yours, or did I do a false reading of WP:CITEHOW ↗? If my understanding of the guidelines was incorrect, please guide me to the relevant part therein. By the way, your translation of LMU is also not correct, but that only as a side remark. Proof finder (talk) 22:24, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
:Where are you getting the publisher name from? Traumnovelle (talk) 23:24, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
::See for example the book details on https://openlibrary.org/works/OL37192507W/Studien_zur_Zuchtgeschichte_des_Rottweiler_Hundes?edition=key%3A/books/OL50152388M ↗. Proof finder (talk) 00:15, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
:::The English translation was published separately. Traumnovelle (talk) 02:17, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Oh, you seem to be right. I found information on it from https://janedogs.com/breeds/rottweiler ↗ (end of the page). However, then the publisher name needs to be changed to something even more different, i.e., the Colonial Rottweiler Club and the Medallion Club, would you agree? Proof finder (talk) 03:52, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::Yes, the English publisher should be cited. Traumnovelle (talk) 08:45, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::Thanks for the constructive discussion! I changed it accordingly. Proof finder (talk) 09:46, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to :Trinity Congregational Church, Christchurch ↗ when you modified the page, you introduced {{cl|Unknown parameters|unknown parameters}}. Just because you specify {{para|some_param|{{var|some_variable}}}} does not always mean that variable will display. The {{para|some_param}} must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview ↗ button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a '''Show preview''' button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history ↗ of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk ↗ for assistance.
