Can you help verify translations of articles from Chinese
Hello White whirlwind,
Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Chinese to English Wikipedia?
left|60px ↗
This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Chinese article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation '''faithfully represents''' the original. Here's the reason for this request:
There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations ↗ from different languages including Chinese , using the Content Translation tool ↗, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Chinese. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: '''Good English''' is not the same as '''good translation'''.
If you can help out, that would be great. {{#ifexpr:{{#if:Christopher J. Marut|1|0}} or {{#if:China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd.|1|0}} or {{#if:Christian Alliance Cheng Wing Gee College|1|0}} or {{#if:|1|0}} or {{#if:|1|0}}|Here's a sample of the articles that need checking: {{#if:Christopher J. Marut|
- Christopher J. Marut ↗}}{{#if:China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd.|
- China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd. ↗}}{{#if:Christian Alliance Cheng Wing Gee College|
- Christian Alliance Cheng Wing Gee College ↗}}{{#if:|
- {{{article4}}} ↗}}{{#if:|
- {{{article5}}} ↗}}}}
All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Chinese article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{tl|Pass}} and {{tl|Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)
If you can help, please let me know. Thanks!<!-- Template:X2 review help. 782612363+1 --> Mathglot (talk)
Please place the citations from which you draw your information
...when you place content in articles. (I'm presuming you draw from published sources; it violates WP:OR ↗ and WP:VERIFY ↗ to draw information from memory / personal knowledge, rather than direct from digital or print sources.)
If your content is being drawn from sources already appearing, use the <nowiki><ref name=XXXX/></nowiki> markup to reproduce the appearing inline citation to your source, at the point where new information is being placed.
Apart from clear what-came-from-where inline citations, articles become a morass / mix of sourced and unsourced information, and it can take hours of work to parse with regard to compliance to WP:RELIABLE ↗ and WP:VERIFY ↗. (And in the meantime, the article cannot be used by students, because of its unreliability.) Thanks. An educator.

:{{replyto|2601:246:C700:F5:F45D:4CF5:F892:E985}} I'm well aware of how citations work. It would help if you mentioned what prompted your comment. To the extent you're suggesting that every sentence needs a citation, WP:VERIFY ↗ has never required that and never will. <small><b><span style="border:1px solid;background:#030303"> <span style="color:white">White Whirlwind </span></span></b></small> 03:16, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
::You are absolutely correct. If the content in question is sky-is-blue, and it is unchallenged, it can pass. But essentially no maths formulations of complex physical phenomena are sky-is-blue (likewise most purported STEM factual content), and as the Wikipedia General Disclaimer ↗ and other WP documents make clear, our veracity rests not on the expertise of its editors, but on it being tied to reliable sources (see WP:RELIABLE ↗ and WP:VERIFY ↗). So, all factual STEM content needs to indicate the sources from which it is drawn, so that it may be verified. Likewise other non-sky-is-blue, purported factual, encyclopedic content. It simply is not sufficient, per all relevant WP policies, that "I [an individual editor] know it is right/true". Cheers. This group of educators. 73.110.70.231 ↗ (talk) 20:22, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

Preview – Consolidate – Summarize
Hello, and thanks for your contributions. Below are a few editing suggestions to make it easier for you and others to collaborate on the encyclopedia. Please ''preview, consolidate,'' and ''summarize'' your edits:
- Try to consolidate your edits, at least at the section level, to avoid cluttering the page's edit history; this makes it easier for your fellow editors to understand your intentions, and makes it easier for those monitoring activity on the article ↗.
- *The '''show preview ↗''' button (beside the "publish changes" button) is helpful for this; use it to view your changes incrementally before finally saving the page once you're satisfied with your edits.
- Please remember to explain each edit with an '''edit summary ↗''' (box above the "publish changes" button).

Why change a person's name to "One scholar"? It was obvious it was one scholar as the article didn't say "several" or name more than one person. See Wikipedia:Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point ↗. <span style="color:#070">Doug Weller</span> talk 10:00, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
:You are wrong. It's bad practice to reference an obscure scholar by name throughout an article. It confuses readers to see a name no one has ever heard of — the man's Wikipedia page averages two views per day — and wonder if it is supposed to mean something to them. In addition, there is nothing disruptive about substituting "one scholar" for an individual name. <small><b><span style="border:1px solid;background:#030303"> <span style="color:white">White Whirlwind </span></span></b></small> 14:04, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

The World Destubathon ↗
Hello. You're invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It will be held from Monday June 16 - Sunday July 13. There is over $3300 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning something to save you money in buying books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for subjects which interest you, sign up on the page in the participants section if interested. Even if you can only manage a few articles they would be very much appreciated and help towards making the content produced as diverse and broad as possible!♦ <span style="font-variant:small-caps;color:#aba67e">''Dr. Blofeld''</span> 13:10, 15 June 2025 (UTC)

You recently improved the article, but are you certain that you didn't also add an error? The article says his first Packers season was in 1919. You removed "in 1920", probably because it seemed redundant, but weren't they saying these two amounts of money were paid for different seasons in different years?
Maybe I just misunderstood how it worked. TooManyFingers (talk) 14:22, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Hi White whirlwind, I noticed you removed the <code><nowiki>{{literal translation}}</nowiki></code> from Shuanglong Bridge ↗. I'd like to keep the <code><nowiki>{{literal translation|'''Double Dragon Bridge'''}}</nowiki></code> in article, because I see many websites and books use this name as translation, e.g. https://www.google.ie/books/edition/Accidentally_Wes_Anderson_Adventures/nnf4EAAAQBAJ?hl=zh-CN&gbpv=1&dq=double+dragon+bridge+jianshui&pg=PT479&printsec=frontcover ↗https://www.google.ie/books/edition/Les_ouvrages_de_g%C3%A9nie_civil/uLKcAgAAQBAJ?hl=zh-CN&gbpv=1&dq=double+dragon+bridge+jianshui&pg=PA31&printsec=frontcover ↗.
