Pictured here are two titans of spaceflight history: Dr. Wernher von Braun ↗, one of the main figures of the early American space program and designer of both the Saturn V ↗ and V-2 ↗ rockets, and five (four visible) Rocketdyne F-1 ↗ engines, used on the Saturn V Dynamic Test Vehicle ↗. Dr. von Braun's career is noted for a great number of achievements in human spaceflight, including the Apollo mission ↗ which successfully put human beings on the moon; nevertheless, it is burdened with the shadow of his activities in the Nazi Party ↗, especially concerning his work on the V-2.

The engines behind him, in addition to being immense, have the honor of being the only engines used to get humans to the moon, as of the time of writing. Developed in the late 1950s, the {{Convert|8400|kg|lb}} engines are still the most powerful single combustion chamber liquid-propellant rocket ↗ ever made.

Two Wikicurious events in North Carolina this week

There are two Wikicurious events in North Carolina this coming week! These are great opportunities to meet other Wikipedians, help new editors get started, and learn more about subjects you might not be familiar with.

Wikicurious: WNC Women's History Month Edit-a-thon ↗ will be a hybrid event held at the Pack Memorial Library ↗ in Asheville on Tuesday, March 24, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This event is focused on amplifying the stories and figures of under-represented Appalachian artists, writers, and other creators, particularly women in honor of Women's History Month, as well as people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and other disenfranchised communities. Get the full details and register on the meetup page ↗.

Wikicurious: Country Music's Mythology ↗ will be an in-person event held at the historic Love House in downtown Chapel Hill on Wednesday, March 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. At the event, you'll have a chance to improve Wikipedia's coverage of emerging and underrepresented country musicians, see an exhibit of photos and fan culture from the Grand Ole Opry, and hear from special guest Rissi Palmer ↗, singer-songwriter and host of the podcast ''Color Me Country''. Get the full details and register on the meetup page ↗.

You received this message because you are on the global message delivery list ↗ of the North Carolina Wikipedians ↗, probably because you signed up on our user page or because you attended one of our events. If you would like to remove yourself, please e-mail me ↗ or remove your username from our global message delivery list ↗.

Hope to see you at some of these events! -- Gaurav ↗ (talk ↗) 08:47, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

Wikimedia Apps Newsletter – First Quarter of 2026

<section begin="content"/>

Hello, and welcome to the first newsletter of 2026!

In this edition, we’ll walk you through the main updates, experiments, and improvements in the Wikipedia mobile apps during January, February, and early March.

iOS

= Activity Tab (iOS) ↗ =

This quarter focused on scaling and improving the Activity Tab experience.

We released the Activity Tab to all users and continued refining it with:

We also fixed several issues related to saved article syncing, timeline, and deleting items.

= Results from scaling =

Our goal was to increase account creation by 5%. The results significantly exceeded expectations:

We also observed stronger retention among Activity Tab users:

= Learnings =

= Next steps =

= Liquid Glass ↗ =

The team also focused on preparations for migrating the app to Liquid Glass, planned for April. We completed a gap analysis and audit, and then triaged and prioritized tasks.

= Tabbed Browsing (Tabs) ↗ =

= Games ↗ =

= Navigation Refresh ↗ =

As part of ongoing improvements:

= Other iOS Updates =

Android

= Hybrid (Semantic + Lexical) Search ↗ =

We began testing a new hybrid search experience that combines keyword-based and natural language search.

= Other Android Updates =

We also fixed several issues, including:

Cross-Platform

= Explore Feed Refresh ↗ =

Across both apps, we continued design and research work to rethink the Explore experience, with the design principles of:

Design work continued on improving the Explore feed:

Our current hypothesis is that a more personalized and structured feed will help users better understand its value and increase daily usage. User testing will help determine the direction to move forward.

= Year in Review ↗ =

= Future of Editing on Mobile ↗ =

The Apps team has started conversations with communities to explore how editing should work on the mobile apps.

The goal is to better support both new and experienced editors, and to guide users toward the right editing tools.

Community input is welcome, and discussions ↗ are ongoing.

Looking Ahead

This quarter focused on scaling successful features, especially the Activity Tab, and continuing foundational work on Search and Explore feed.

We’re seeing strong signals around personalization, engagement, and new ways to guide users through reading and editing.

Thank you for following along, and stay tuned for the next updates later this year.

Florence Malone ↗ moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Florence Malone ↗. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing as a live article at this time because '''it needs more sources to establish notability''' and '''the sources on the page are primary sources or do not give significant coverage to the subject'''.
I have converted it to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page ↗.
When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Boynamedsue (talk) 18:57, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

Hello {{BASEPAGENAME}},

thumb|400px|New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026 ↗

'''Backlog update'''

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

'''2024 and 2025 NPP Awards'''

74px|left ↗{{no ping|JTtheOG}} was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.
{{no ping|Hey man im josh}} and {{no ping|MPGuy2824}} won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

{{no ping|BoyTheKingCanDance}}, {{no ping|Rosiestep}}, {{no ping|SunDawn}}, and {{no ping|Vanderwaalforces}} were inducted into the NPP Hall of Fame ↗ for having two separate years of 2,000+ article reviews.

'''January–February backlog drive'''

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to {{no ping|JTtheOG}}, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

'''May backlog drive'''

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026 ↗.

'''PageTriage'''

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed ↗ to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket ↗ if you're interested in following along.

Speedy deletion ↗ nomination of :"David H. Weinberg" ↗

48px|left|alt=|link= ↗

A tag has been placed on :"David H. Weinberg" ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines ↗. <!-- Template:Db-redirtypo-notice --><!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> Casablanca 🪨(T) 18:21, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

<section begin="title"/>Wikimedia Apps Newsletter – Second Quarter of 2026<section end="title"/>

<section begin="content"/>
Hello, and welcome to the second Wikimedia Apps newsletter of 2026!

In this edition, we’ll walk you through the main updates, launches, experiments, and improvements in the Wikipedia mobile apps during March, April,May, and June.

iOS ↗

=Liquid Glass migration =

A major focus this quarter was the transition to Apple’s new Liquid Glass design system.

The team completed extensive design, infrastructure, and implementation work, culminating in the release of Wikipedia iOS 8.0.0 with Liquid Glass support. This represented one of the largest visual updates to the app in recent years and required coordinated work across navigation, interface components, theming, and platform-specific behaviors.

The Apps team plans continued modernization of the app’s design system and navigation patterns.

= Activity Tab ↗ =

Following the successful rollout of the Activity Tab earlier this year, the team continued refining the experience based on user feedback.

One recurring theme was confusion around the relocation of reading history. Some users believed history had been removed or required an account to access.

To address this:

= Games ↗ =

Development continued on the new "Which Came First?" daily trivia game.

The game became available on 11 June 2026.

= Other iOS improvements =

Additional work this quarter included:

Android ↗

= Hybrid Search ↗ =

The Android team continued work on Hybrid Search, combining traditional keyword search with semantic search capabilities.

The experiment expanded to English, French, Portuguese, and Greek Wikipedias and completed its first MVP phase.

== Results ==

The experiment also generated valuable datasets and user insights that will guide future development.

== Learnings ==

One key learning was that users need clearer explanations of how hybrid search works. Existing onboarding and provenance indicators were not sufficient at larger scale.

= Games Hub ↗ =

Android introduced a new Games Hub, providing a centralized location for games and interactive experiences within the app.

The hub lays the groundwork for future expansion of game-based engagement features, including the upcoming trivia experience.

Cross-platform

= Explore Feed Refresh ↗ =

One of the largest initiatives this quarter was the rollout of Phase 1 of the Explore Feed Refresh on Android.

The redesign introduces a new Home experience built around two primary feeds.

== Community Feed ==

The Community Feed highlights curated Wikipedia and Wikimedia content, including:

== For You feed ==

The For You feed introduces personalized content through:

== Additional improvements ==

Additional work included:

The redesign was released through a holdout experiment, enabling the team to measure its impact while continuing iterative improvements.

== Early learnings ==

The Explore Feed Refresh was then released to 50% of app users before being fully released to all users starting on 15 June 2026.

The refreshed experience is planned to launch in the Wikipedia iOS app during July 2026.

= Wikipedia 25th Birthday Reading Challenge ↗ =

thumb|Mock-up of the Wikipedia app Reading Challenge ↗

This quarter we launched the Wikipedia 25th Birthday Reading Challenge across Android and iOS.

The challenge included:

Following launch, the team implemented several improvements based on early feedback and usage patterns, while resolving onboarding and widget-related issues.

Early results showed encouraging participation, increased account creation, positive community reception, and opportunities for continued iteration.

= Year in Review learnings ↗ =

Following the conclusion of the 2025 Year in Review experience, both teams completed a comprehensive analysis of the feature.

== Key findings ==

== Learnings ==

The findings will help shape future iterations of Year in Review and other personalized experiences within the apps.

Looking ahead

This quarter focused on launching major experiences while laying the groundwork for future growth.

The rollout of the Explore Feed Refresh, launch of the Reading Challenge, continued investment in Hybrid Search, and preparation for new games all reflect the team's broader focus on helping users discover, engage with, and contribute to knowledge in new ways.

We're excited to continue iterating on these experiences and look forward to sharing more updates in the next edition of the newsletter.

Thank you for reading!
