Belated thanks

I wanted to thank you for your special attention when remediating the crass edit by {{noping|Devokewater}} which placed all images in the body of Mansfield ↗ article into a gallery with an inappropriate edit summary and no mention at Talk. This was - to me - obviously an editor behaviour issue, not page content, particularly as s/he failed to respond to me at User Talk; I 'walked out' of the AN incident report seeing the negative comments in my direction, but I see the Devokewater registration has not been used since that day, June 2024.

Devokewater stated the article layout was impossible with that amount of images; this was due, at least in part, to mobile phone user most recently named as {{noping|MatthewDavid41}} who has continued to load excessive images into short articles (e.g., Parliament Oak ↗ and Berry Hill Park ↗). I don't use mobile phones (so I don't appreciate the graphic interfaces compared to PC), but I only ever knew one editor (a latter-day admin) who boasted of being able to do everything on an iPhone. I have little time for the immediate future so can only gnome-around when I can. rgds,-- ~2026-36793-65 ↗ (talk) 09:50, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

:You're welcome, and thanks for helping out with what time you have. This TA thing is a PITA, but this message helps me make sense of a recent ping on :Talk:Mansfield ↗. I see a lot of toing and froing in the history as well as the account you name holding forth on talk; the article is better but clearly keeps being expanded with more images (and having its text pruned back) because people have different taste. (And that infobox multiple image is humongous.) I understand mobile view only shows one section at a time, also, which presumably masks the clutter effect. I know Wikipedia is now getting a lot of useful edits from mobile phone users, but the differences are contributing to conflict. Yngvadottir (talk) 19:16, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
::Although I have been using IBM computers for 30+ years, I am unfamiliar with iOS and likewise Google Android; I have used a 'phone to edit, but scrolled to the bottom and turned it into desktop mode, something regular phone users don't seem to do?-~2026-36793-65 ↗ (talk) 00:43, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
:::Right, only experienced Wikipedia editors, and the WMF won't allow it to be a "sticky" setting even for logged-in users. Also, the apps are reportedly even worse. That exhausts my hearsay knowledge though :-) Yngvadottir (talk) 01:17, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

WikiCup 2026 July newsletter

The third round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 June at 23:59 (UTC). As a reminder, good article nomination reviews ↗ now receive 10 points, while peer reviews ↗, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews ↗, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 3 will advance to round 4 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 3 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; eight scored over 500; and thirteen scored over 300. The top three contestants had at least one featured article ↗ (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 3 can be seen here ↗. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 7 featured-topic articles, 117 good articles, 74 good-topic articles and more than 30 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 13 In the News ↗ articles, and they have conducted nearly 180 reviews. The tournament points table ↗ has been updated.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 June but before the start of Round 4 can be claimed in Round 4. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send ↗. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:49, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
