Discussion at WT:Basketball
Hey. I have started a discussion at WT:Basketball ↗ regarding the shortening of long team names in infoboxes. See here ↗. Please comment there. Thanks. DaHuzyBru (talk) 09:49, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
:Thanks, I will comment.
:I do think Phoenix/Magic name could be shorten so they can fit their pages. For Phoenix's team pages I had to shorten their season pages. It’s much easier typing their shorten name since it’s very repetitive in infoboxes/boxsore purposes. Both logos use S.E. Melbourne. It must be optional. Happy we leave south east when introducing the players. Only infobox/team pages shorten. Alextigers (talk) 11:21, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
NBL Finals did not Qualify
Hi Alextigers! I'm just interested to know, is there any sort of policy or convention that says that we should not include did not qualify? I personally think it should be there. Please let me know your reasons why you think it is unnecessary, is it a certain policy? Has there been consensus on something?. Please discuss and thanks for collaborating and discussing! Servite et contribuere (talk) 04:17, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
::I know the defending champions label is only a feature for the NBL. NBA Finals don’t use it. They have their own conference champions.
::Best just mentioning a paragraph that Tasmania did not qualify to the postseason with a reference. Really no need since Tasmania didn’t qualify. It can clog up the infobox. Then would need to fix past season pages.
:Alextigers (talk) 04:30, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
::Alextigers I'm not a big Basketball fan myself, but I did research that other defending champions have qualified recently in the NBL for a long time. Do note (Please correct me if am wrong) but the last time the defending NBA Champions did not qualify '''Wikipedia did not exist'''. The NFL, NHL and MLB do have did not qualify, and Wikipedia did exist. Here are some examples:
::2022-23 NFL playoffs ↗
::2016-17 NFL playoffs ↗
::2015 Stanley Cup playoffs ↗ Servite et contribuere (talk) 04:56, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
:::Good idea, I'll add it in. Thanks for the heads up. Alextigers (talk) 11:35, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
Ignite Cup
Hey. How do you think we should handle the Ignite Cup? There is no reference in the official release to the 2021 NBL Cup. I'd say this may need to be a new subject. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:01, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
:I wasn’t sure myself, but will need to delete the NBL In-Season Tournament ↗ page. Do feel that page that got recently made is not irrelevant. I feel we just rename the NBL Cup ↗ to NBL Ignite Cup ↗. They’re both midseason Cup tournaments. Will just need to add more to the Cup history of its return but different name. Do wonder in the infobox can we add former names (nbl cup) in the infobox. Only difference is say the Perth Wildcats win this tournament, it won’t be their second title since different competitions. Difference trophies but similar concept. Alextigers (talk) 06:31, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
::I hadn't seen the NBL In-Season Tournament ↗ page. I would suggest we just move that page to "NBL Ignite Cup" and leave NBL Cup ↗ as is. We can direct readers to the new "NBL Ignite Cup" page up the top and in the body. DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:38, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
:::Oh I did forget. Feel free creating and updating the 2025–26 NBL season ↗ page. My hands have been full lately. If you also need to make a brief page for each 2025–26 NBL clubs, that's fine. I can update them once created with some references added. Alextigers (talk) 03:41, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
PRODs
Hello, Alextigers,
Please untag all of the articles you PROD'd. You didn't do so correctly so they are missing a time and date stamp. Please avoid having another editor need to do this work by doing this yourself. You can see all of the incorrect PRODs by looking at the bottom of the page User:DumbBOT/ProdSummary. Simply remove the PROD tags.
Next time, I advise you using Twinkle ↗ to do all of your article tagging because it won't make mistakes like this. Thank you. <span style="font-family:Papyrus; color:#800080;">'''''L'''''iz</span> '''''Read!''''' ↗ '''''Talk!''''' 20:51, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
:Apologies Liz, I removed all the proposed deletion tags that I added incorrectly. Need a speedy deletion for some of these’s nbl club pages which don’t have enough resources. Alextigers (talk) 01:45, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
::Thanks. I really recommend Twinkle, it makes ordinary tasks very easy. <span style="font-family:Papyrus; color:#800080;">'''''L'''''iz</span> <sup style="font-family: Times New Roman; color: #006400;">'''''Read!''''' ↗ '''''Talk!'''''</sup> 07:32, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: :2009–10 Wollongong Hawks season ↗
Hello Alextigers. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of :2009–10 Wollongong Hawks season ↗, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: OK, I may have picked a bad example here. This article has no references other than an archived link to a defunct National Basketball League (Australia) ↗ team's website. I'll address the WP:G11 and WP:A7 concerns with the tagging editor soon . Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 08:46, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
About tagging of various :National Basketball League (Australia) ↗ seasons articles for speedy deletion
{{reply to|Alextigers}}
Articles tagged for speedy deletion:
- 2010–11 Cairns Taipans season ↗
- 2010–11 Gold Coast Blaze season ↗
- 2010–11 Perth Wildcats season ↗
- 2010–11 Sydney Kings season ↗
- 2010–11 Townsville Crocodiles season ↗
- 2010–11 Wollongong Hawks season ↗
- 2011–12 Cairns Taipans season ↗
- 2011–12 Sydney Kings season ↗
- 2013–14 Adelaide 36ers season ↗
- 2015–16 Illawarra Hawks season ↗
In all of these, I think the WP:G11 ↗ tag is quite inappropriate here. They are not pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to serve as encyclopedia articles. They are just pages about about basketball teams. I see no promotional content here at all.
Wrong? Right? Something else? Please let me know. Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 10:03, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
:I'm glad it's not just me, Shirt58. I can't see any valid reason to delete these season articles under G11 criteria. I'm declining all of them. BusterD (talk) 11:52, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
::Hey guys, the main reason was because they were made poorly with not many or no references at all. None have been updated for years or aren't even finished. Also you can't find much information from past NBL seasons going back to 2015/16 seasons. The NBL closed down the older sites. Alextigers (talk) 12:00, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
:::If I were in your situation, I might PROD these articles to get them deleted. It's unlikely that any but an actual page defender will object. I couldn't in good faith delete these as G11 or A7 because they've existed in page space for ten years. BTW, team seasons are usually found to be notable through coverage in ''independent'' media sources, not the league wraps. BusterD (talk) 12:06, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
::::I might be able to update each of them but it will take some time. It's a lot of work for me since I am focusing on the current seasons. I'll see what I can do with web-achieve. Alextigers (talk) 12:08, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
:::::The Wikipedia Library may also be of assistance. I use Newspapers.com and Newspaper Archive often. You meet all the qualifications for use. BusterD (talk) 12:39, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
::::::Or you can PROD if you believe these articles can't be supported with RS. They can always be undeleted if sourcing is later found. BusterD (talk) 12:46, 13 July 2025 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello. Thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia ↗. I noticed that your recent edit to :2010–11 Adelaide 36ers season ↗ did not have an edit summary ↗. Collaboration among editors is fundamental to Wikipedia, and every edit should be explained by a clear edit summary ↗, or by discussion on the talk page ↗. Please use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit and/or to describe what it changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief ↗.
The edit summary field looks like this:
{{Edit summary field/OOUI}}
or in the visual editor:

:Hello, Alextigers,
:Please remember to always leave a descriptive edit summary when you PROD-tag an article. This is so, if the article is de-PROD, it's obvious by looking at the page history that the article has been PROD'd before. Really, all of the guidelines you need to know are at Wikipedia:Proposed deletion ↗. But an informative edit summary is always a good move so that your fellow editors can understand the reason behind your editing decisions. Thank you. <span style="font-family:Papyrus; color:#800080;">'''''L'''''iz</span> '''''Read!''''' ↗ '''''Talk!''''' 20:18, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
::Actually, the simplest way to do any deletion tagging of an article (CSD, PROD, AFD/RFD/CFD/etc.) is to use Twinkle ↗. It's a very helpful editing tool that remembers all of the templates for you so you don't have to go looking for them. Just make sure you go into your Twinkle Preferences and check off the box that states "Notify page creator" and then Twinkle will post all of the notices on editors' User talk pages so that you don't have to. I really recommend giving it a try. <span style="font-family:Papyrus; color:#800080;">'''''L'''''iz</span> '''''Read!''''' ↗ '''''Talk!''''' 20:23, 18 July 2025 (UTC)

Nominated/injury replacement player
Hi Alextigers, thank you for all the work that you do on the NBL articles. I wanted to explain the nominated/injury replacement player situation as I only understood it recently and it is not explained in detail elsewhere. A nominated player is someone who can be nominated to replace anyone on the roster during the season; Todd Withers ↗ was an NRP import for the Wildcats last season so he played in substitution for all three imports. An injury replacement player is someone signed to replace a specific injured player; Harry Froling ↗ is the replacement for Sam Froling ↗ and Tyger Campbell ↗ is the replacement for Sean Macdonald ↗. I only noticed the individual wordings used on the signings (Withers nominated ↗, Froling injury ↗, Campbell injury ↗) recently and realised there was a difference so I have included that in team rosters. CalDoesIt (talk) 08:09, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
:Thanks for that. It gets confusing on the nbl website. They don’t word it right. Thanks helping. Alextigers (talk) 08:53, 14 September 2025 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to :2025–26 NBL season ↗ when you modified the page, you introduced {{cl|Unknown parameters|unknown parameters}}. Just because you specify {{para|some_param|{{var|some_variable}}}} does not always mean that variable will display. The {{para|some_param}} must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview ↗ button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a '''Show preview''' button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact the help desk ↗ for assistance.
