Errors on the French Wikipedia
I was just looking at the Nunavut ↗ and Liste des communautés au Nunavut ↗ and noticed that there were several errors.
The Inuit names for the following places are not the official names. A list of official names can be found here ↗, although the spelling of Igloolik is odd.
- Qamani’tuaq ↗ should be Baker Lake ↗
- Naujatt ↗ should be Repulse Bay ↗
- Kangiqtiniq ↗ should be Rankin Inlet ↗
- Akviligjuaq ↗ is another name for Kugaaruk ↗
- Ikaluktutiak ↗ should be Cambridge Bay ↗
The "Liste des communautés au Nunavut" has a link to Inuits Netsilik ↗ but they are a group of people rather than a community. Amadjuak ↗, Amadjuak, Nunavut ↗, should probably say that it's a former community. The problem is that I don't speak French and I can't log in ↗ due to someone using my username ↗ for vandalism ↗ prior to the unified login system. Thanks. The highly esteemed CBW presents the Talk Page! ↗ 09:22, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
:Thanks you for the info, I'll make the changes. Amqui (talk) 17:20, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
::I'm not sure english names are more official than inuktitut ones. Inuktitut is an official language of Nunavut. Amqui (talk) 21:41, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Reference for CFB Edmonton ↗
Hi, Sorry, but I had to undo your edit to this article, which was to add a reference. Thanks for trying to add the reference, but the DND took the info from the CFB Edmonton ↗ article for their own history of the base, almost verbatim. So, obviously it can't be used as a reference source. Sort of a chicken-egg situation. See the talk page for this article for more info. I'm sure this will be happening more frequently as other web sites "steal" information from Wikipedia articles. I know they took it, since I originally wrote this part of the article, and it was before the DND had their CFB Edmonton history page up and running (see edit history, Nov 22, 2006). I should have added my references at the time, but I was relatively new with Wikipedia and did not think to do it. I may be able to find the "real" source I used; if I do, I'll be sure to add it in. There is no way that you would have known, and I'm sure this will happen again. Cheers!--<span style="color:white;background:#73C2FB;"> <b>'''''BC'''''</b> </span> '''talk to me''' 06:00, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
:Thanks for the info, but I already used this website for BFC Edmonton ↗. If they took your text from wiki to put it there, I can assume that's because your text is true... Amqui (talk) 16:33, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
::I wouldn't think they did a whole lot of checking; I am assuming they just grabbed it assuming it was accurate (probably some lazy government bureaucrat decided that stealing a WP artiicle is easier than doing his own research). I double checked some of the information, and the sites I used seemed reliable as sources. I'm still going to check my reference for the information that needs to be cited. When I find it we can use that for the French article.<span style="color:white;background:#73C2FB;"> <b>'''''BC'''''</b> </span> '''talk to me''' 19:01, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

April - National Contribution Month
<div class="plainlinks">Good day Amqui,
During the month of April, Wikimedia Canada is preparing the National Contribution Month ↗, and we are looking for experienced contributors to organize a contribution day (or half-day) in their region.
Contribution days are activities where Wikipedia's contributors, students, or anybody interested in contributing to Wikipedia meets together to collectively improve a predetermined theme. This meetings generally take place in library where references are easy of access, but can be organized in any communal room. Beside improving articles, a goal of this participatory workshops is to initiate neophyte in the cooperative contribution of Wikipedia.
If you are interested in organizing or participating in a contribution day in your region, communicate witht he national team on the project's talk page ↗. The exact agenda of each local event is left to the discretion of the organizer. Help is available for the organization from contributors who already organized these type of days, so don't be worried. If you have any questions or want more information, don't hesitate to contact us ↗. </div>

Came across you on a talkpage for someone who'd edited Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation ↗, saw you're not in WP:IPNA ↗ members listing; we've begun discussions ↗ towards a set of proper indigenous article/title wiki-guidelines because of various problems with non-indigenous input/guideline-citing by non-native/non-IPNA folks (I'm not native myself but I've been busy with organizing/citing IPNA articles since I joined Wikipedia).Skookum1 (talk) 08:05, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you
for showing up at Talk:Cahokia ↗ and getting involved with some good, positive suggestions as to what to do next. The dialog that was happening seemed to be at one of those balance points where it was either going to turn good or bad and I believe that your input might have tipped it towards the former. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 21:35, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
:Thanks for your comment, I'm happy to see you think like that, I hesitated before posting it because it wasn't directly related with the article where the talk page is, but the importance of the message made me posting it. Hopefully it won't be interpreted like we try to push Indigenous peoples' opinions away from the English Wikipedia, because this is far from my intent. I guess we should copy it and continue the discussion on the project talk page though. Thank you again, Amqui (talk) 21:40, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
:: The whole discussion taking place really had very little, if anything, to do with the article in question. I doubt very many native people support the statement that no human sacrifice or ritual torture occurred in N or S America. I was trying to decide if that editor was in fact a troll just trying to stir up trouble. Then you arrived, presented a nice way to move on from where we were that involved no loss of face for anyone. From the start wikipedia has been edited largely by male, white Americans and that is a group that often comes with a lot of baggage, a fair amount of which shows up in various places. That profile is changing and change can be difficult on all sorts of people. Viva Change. Carptrash (talk) 22:31, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Chronologie de l'histoire de l'Alberta ↗
Bonjour,
Pronunciation of Causapscal
Hello again, Amqui! I'm just looking for a clarification re: the pronunciation of "Causapscal." Is it said "ceau-sap-scale" (phonetic French) or "co-pascal?" I was talking about it with a friend and he was convinced it was the latter. - <span style="font-family:Mistral;text-shadow:gray 0.1em 0.1em 0.3em;color:#FF003C;font-size:120%">Sweet </span><span style="font-family:Mistral;text-shadow:gray 0.1em 0.1em 0.3em; color:#400e36;font-size:120%">Nightmares</span> 01:41, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
:It's the first one, but it's "keau-zap-scale", a "s" between 2 vowels is pronunced like a "z" in French (and your "ceau" doesn't work either, because a "c" in front of a "e" is pronunced like a "s" in French instead of like a "k" like when it's in front of a "a", "e" is a soft vowel while "a" is a hard vowel). Amqui (talk) 02:11, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
::Great, thank you. As for "Amqui," does it make the "qu" sound as in "quick" or is it a K sound as in Québec? Intuition tells me it's the latter, but my friend says it's the former, since it's an Amerindian name. - <span style="font-family:Mistral;text-shadow:gray 0.1em 0.1em 0.3em;color:#FF003C;font-size:120%">Sweet </span><span style="font-family:Mistral;text-shadow:gray 0.1em 0.1em 0.3em; color:#400e36;font-size:120%">Nightmares</span> 20:23, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
:::It's the former, pronunce it like you would in English. It doesn't follow French pronunciation. If you want another "weird" one go see Sayabec ↗ (which I made a GA on fr.wp), it's pronunced "say-bek" (as in English), middle a is completly omitted. Amqui (talk) 21:32, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
Interesting! I've added the IPA transcription to all three articles (+Causapscal Lake). - <span style="font-family:Mistral;text-shadow:gray 0.1em 0.1em 0.3em;color:#FF003C;font-size:120%">Sweet </span><span style="font-family:Mistral;text-shadow:gray 0.1em 0.1em 0.3em; color:#400e36;font-size:120%">Nightmares</span> 21:58, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

To help us focus on African languages Rubric ↗ has donated a large number of articles in languages we haven't previously reached–so a shout out them, and Ian Henderson ↗ from Rubric who's joined us here at Wikipedia. ;<big>New roles and guides!</big>
At Wikimania there were so many enthusiastic people jumping at the chance to help out the Medical Translation Project, but unfortunately not all of them knew how to get started. That is why we've been spending considerable time writing and improving guides! They are finally live, and you can find them at our home-page ↗!
;<big>New sign up page!</big>
We're proud to announce a new sign up page at WP:MTSIGNUP ↗! The old page was getting cluttered and didn't allow you to speficy a role. The new page should be easier to sign up to, and easier to navigate so that we can reach you when you're needed!
;Style guides for translations
Translations are of both full articles and shorter articles continues. The process where short articles are chosen for translation hasn't been fully transparent. In the coming months we hope to have a first guide, so that anyone who writes medical or health articles knows how to get their articles to a standard where they can be translated! That's why we're currently working on medical '''good lede''' criteria! The idea is to have a similar peer review process to good article nominations ↗, but only for ledes.
;Some more stats
- In July, 18 full article translations went live (<small>WP:RTT ↗</small>), and an additional 6 simplified versions went live (<small>WP:RTTS ↗</small>)!
- We have a number of new lead integrators into Dutch, Polish, Arabic and Bulgarian, with more to come in smaller languages! ''(<small>Find them here old sign up page ↗</small>)''
- We were mentioned in a Global Voices Online report by Subhashish Panigrahi at Doctors and translators are working together to bridge Wikipedia's medical language gap ↗
- New medical professionals have started, dedicated to working in '''Odiya ↗''' and '''Kinyarwanda ↗'''!
- Translators Without Borders ↗

New sign-up page for the Medical Translation Project
Hey!
This is a friendly reminder that the '''sign-up page ↗''' at the Medical Translation Project ↗ (previously Translation Task force) has been updated. This means everyone has to sign up again. Using the new page it will be easier for us to get into contact with you when there is work available. Please check out our progress pages ↗ now! There might be work there already for you.
We are also very proud to introduce new roles and guides which allows people to help who don't have medical knowledge too!
;'''Here are ways you can help!'''
;Community organization ↗
:We need involved Wikipedians to engage the community on the different Wikipedias, and to '''spread the word'''!
;Assessing content ↗
:We need language knowledgeable Wikipedians (or not yet Wikipedians) who indicate on our progress tables '''which articles should and should not be translated'''!
;Translating ↗
:We are always on the look-out for dedicated '''translators''' to work with our content, especially in smaller languages!
;Integration ↗
:Translated articles need to be '''integrated into local Wikipedias'''. This process is done manually, and needs to take merge or replace older articles.
;Template installation ↗
:For translations to be more useful templates and modules should be installed. We need people with the technical know-how who can help out!
;Programming ↗
:Several of our processes are in need of simplification and many could occur automatically with bots.
Please use the '''sign up page ↗''', and thank you guys for all the work you've been doing. The translation project wouldn't be possible without you!

Nova Scotia, GLAM and WiR
To: The Interior, Neelix, Niikkimaria, Amqui
I have some familiarity with our GLAM and Wikipedians in Residence initiatives, but I have not been closely involved with either project.
I am an OTRS agent and field in an email from an individual associated with the government of Nova Scotia. They are interested in working closely with Wikipedia particularly regarding cultural history issues.
I have already shared links to our COI policy, to the GLAM initiative Wikipedia:GLAM ↗, and to the WiR page (https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedian_in_Residence)
They have responded with interest in pursuing this and I promise to help put them in touch with someone. As you may know, I cannot share the contents of OTRS emails without permission but they have given me permission. If you happen to be an OTRS agent see: :ticket:2016121310018191 ↗
If not, let me know and I will copy the email.
I see this as a potential exciting new initiative. While we have many examples of Wikipedians in Residence, I do not see any that are representatives of a provincial government, so this may be breaking exciting new ground.--<span style="color:#000E2F;padding:0 4px;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">S Philbrick</span><span style=";padding:0 4px;color:# 000;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">(Talk)</span> 15:51, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

48px|left|alt=|link= ↗
Hello, Amqui. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation ↗ submission or Draft ↗ page you started, "Test test ↗".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace ↗, the draft has been nominated for deletion. GLAM partnership
Hello Amqui,
I am contacting you as a representative of my employer, the Canadian Museum of History. We are interested in adding media content to Wikimedia Commons, and so we would like to know what a partnership with Wikipedia would entail. Would you be available to meet with us in person to discuss the possibilites? The Raven's Librarian (talk) 14:55, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
Indigenize Wikipedia
Hello!
<br>
I'm reaching out to you today to let you know about a project the Yukon Arts Centre ↗ is doing, '''April 28th 2018''', called ''Indigenize Wikipedia''.<br>
Valerie Salez is spear heading a project titled Conversations. This New Chapter project centres around activating a document held in the archives of the Trondek Hwechin Heritage Department (The Han Gwich’in Peoples Government in Dawson City, Yukon). The document contains the minutes of an impromptu meeting between Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau and five Yukon First Nations leaders in August of 1977, regarding the then-approved Mackenzie Pipeline. The minutes of this meeting clearly reveal two opposing cultures and two opposing ways of understanding economic, social and cultural development, with the land and its inhabitants as the focus.<br>
While researching events and people connected to this document, Salez noticed there was a lack of information available. Online searches have become a valuable first step to researching any topic. Wikipedia gained its name to fame as a peer sourced online encyclopedia. However, there is little to no information regarding key Yukon First Nations people. Let us indigenize Wikipedia. The goal is to have Yukoners create and/or add to wiki pages that highlight Yukon First Nations leaders, policy makers, politicians, cultural workers, artists/crafters, hunters, gatherers, community contributors, aunties, uncles, grandparents. This can be anyone alive or passed.<br>
We are proposing a drop-in style event to allow people to contribute to Wikipedia. We are inviting people from the public and from organizations to contribute to writing, editing, or posting to Wikipedia about Yukon First Nations people.<br>

Сретение Господне ("The Meeting of the Lord"), a depiction of Simeon recognising Jesus at the Temple, from a fifteenth-century Novgorodskye School Russian icon.|right|205px ↗
'''''A Song for Simeon''''', is a 37-line poem written in 1928 by American-English poet T. S. Eliot ↗ (1888–1965). It is one of five poems ↗ that Eliot contributed to the ''Ariel poems ↗'' series of 38 pamphlets by several authors published by Faber and Gwyer ↗. "A Song for Simeon" was the sixteenth in the series and included an illustration by avant garde ↗ artist Edward McKnight Kauffer ↗. The poem's narrative echoes the text of the {{lang|la|Nunc dimittis ↗|italic=no}}, a liturgical prayer for Compline ↗ from the Gospel passage. Eliot introduces literary allusions to earlier writers Lancelot Andrewes ↗, Dante Alighieri ↗ and St. John of the Cross ↗. Critics have debated whether Eliot's depiction of Simeon is a negative portrayal of a Jewish figure and evidence of anti-Semitism ↗ on Eliot's part.

potential issue on iu.wiki
As you can see here ↗, we have someone who wants to create articles on iu.wiki despite not knowing any Inuktituk. He's been strongly advised against doing this — if you remember the Scots Wikipedia ↗ fiasco, you know just how bad this sort of thing can get — but has already created two articles ↗.
Perhaps those should be deleted? DS (talk) 04:16, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

Proposal to merge articles
Hello, I have seen that you created Micmacs of Gesgapegiag ↗ back in 2017. I have recently edited the article and then I noticed there already exists an article of the same place Gesgapegiag ↗, which was created back in 2007. I would like to merge these articles together but im unsure which should be the source and destination. Micmacs of Gesgapegiag is the official name so Im thinking of making this the destination. What do you think of this? I should note that I am registered to this reservation but its been quite a long time since I visited. Lightspeed2012 (talk) 02:39, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
:Hello, "Micmacs of Gesgapegiag" refers to the Indian band/First Nation, the People, while "Gesgapegiag" refers to the Indian reserve, the location. They are not technically the same. Many other First Nations are only one band while they have more than one réserve. Amqui (talk) 03:04, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
::I see, I suppose that my confusion comes from that I thought "Gesgapegiag" is just a shorten version of saying "Micmacs of Gesgapegiag". Your right, because according to the First Nation Profiles on the Indian Affairs website, the band is listed and then the reserve. Its just confusing because there is only one reservation. I learned something new even though I lived there for 15 years lol.
::Anyways, my intention was to edit for the reserve only and if you like I could revert those edits made on Micmacs of Gesgapegiag ↗ or modify, because once I update the other article then both will be almost identical, even before the edits it was like this to a degree.
