25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hi Anne8Ko! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia{{Snd}} it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections ↗ or reverting obvious vandalism ↗. Any edit that changes the ''meaning'' of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit ↗ for more information. Word count

It's great that you're working on making plot summaries in articles shorter. But some of your edits seem to be focused ''solely'' on reducing the number of words, and sometimes using fewer words makes it confusing or awkward to read. For example, ''"Successful San Francisco corporate lawyer Peter Banning, unaware that his work is straining his relationship with his wife Moira and their children (Jack and Maggie), the family prepares to fly to London to visit Moira's grandmother, Wendy Darling"''https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hook_%28film%29&type=revision&diff=1007285868&oldid=1005232143 ↗ is a dozen fewer words, but it's a run-on sentence that doesn't work grammatically. And it misses the point that it's Peter's attitude that's the problem, not his job. As another example, changing ''"Peter spies on"'' to ''"Peter sees"'' is one fewer word, but leaves out the fact that he's doing it secretly. The goal isn't to use as few words as possible, but to avoid going into unnecessary details about the story. Instead of asking "How can I rephrase this with fewer words?" ask "What plot details aren't necessary to understand the story?" -Jason A. Quest (talk) 15:46, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Plot word counts

Hi @Anne8ko. I’ve noticed you’ve been editing film plots to fit the suggested word count limit of 400-700 words. On The Good Girl ↗, I saw you worked on tightening the word number, but certain details became unclear. For example, when this sentence "''30 y.o. Justine Last is depressed, living in small town Texas ↗ with her house painter husband Phil, who smokes marijuana ↗ with his best friend, Bubba constantly''" is followed by "''He wants them to start a family but she is not ready,''" it can be unclear about ''who'' wants to start a family—Phil or Bubba? So I changed it to "''Phil wants to start a family with Justine but she is not yet ready''."

Another example is the last sentence. "''She lovingly holds the baby and they seem content.''" Who seems content, Justine and the baby, or Justine and Phil? I edited it to "''She lovingly holds the baby and the couple seems content''" to be more specific.

Yes, MOS:PLOTLENGTH ↗ recommends a certain word count, but those are meant as guidelines and do not have to be strictly followed to the letter. The general idea is "There is no universal set length for a plot summary, though it should not be excessively long." I understand you’re trying to improve plot summaries per the guidelines, but when you do so, make sure that the wording or grammar is not becoming unclear or confusing while doing so. Spectrallights (talk) 04:44, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

:ok, I do my best...thanks for the input. I do read and reread after editing, but we are all human and can occasionally slip up Anne8Ko (talk) 09:06, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
::You're welcome, thanks for being open to it. I'd echo what Jason A. Quest said up top: it's less about using as few words as possible and more about "What plot details aren't necessary to understand the story?" Spectrallights (talk) 06:14, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

The Bells of St. Mary's

Funny I stumbled upon the page today. During one edit, when you removed the word count during your (by the way, wonderfully concise) plot summary (inside of the invisible < ! -- type of tag), everything below intro paragraph inadvertently disappeared. I was about to put a stub tag on it, when I noticed the whole thing was hidden. It was like a treasure hunt! Anyway, page is restored now, and looks excellent. Just wanted to inform you though. Addendum w/ clarification re: Fitzgerald technically being first nominated twice for same role, albeit same film; Crosby same role in two different films. Madame Web plot

Hello, I noticed you have twice now added an excessive amount of line breaks to the plot of the Madame Web (film) ↗ article. These types of line breaks are not necessary and actually introduce an exorbitant length of whitespace that can make reading the text comfortably unwieldy for some readers. Generally, film plot summaries should follow the general layout established at MOS:FILMPLOT ↗. Also, when you notice a change you made has been undone, chances are there is a reason for it. As I regularly make corrections here, and have been doing so since my early retirement 5 years ago, I would rather not be regularly trolled by someone. The edits I make are to make entries concise, neutral and readable to the average person within the 400 to 700 word limits. The paragraphing I do is always done when scenes change or focus shifts, so as the reader is more inclined to read. Generally speaking, when facing a wall of text with no pause, readers tend to give up.
:The majority of feedback I have received over the years has been thanking me for my efforts, the only type of 'pay' I have gotten for probably thousands of edits now. So you know, I did alter two major things in my editing after feedback: both removing links to actors within the text and contractions. Anne8Ko (talk) 20:56, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
::In many cases, you have taken paragraphs of 4–5 sentences (a normal size) and drilled them down to 2–3 sentences. Paragraphs of 4–5 sentences are perfectly reasonable by most guides (which recommend 3–7) and do not constitute a wall of text. Breaking plot summaries down into paragraphs of 2–3 sentences is excessive, obsessive, and ruining the flow of many of these summaries. I am not the only person who has expressed concerns about this practice; I note {{u|Darkwarriorblake}} has also expressed concerns here ↗. I would suggest that if a paragraph falls into 3–7 range you should not alter it, because your standard for paragraphing is not consistent with the general approach on Wikipedia, given how many you are altering. Betty Logan (talk) 01:04, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
::Hi Anne, to be clear it's not the quality of your changes that is an issue, as I said in my edit summary on Mission: Impossible – Fallout ↗, "your changes are always positive, I just don't quite understand why ever para has be max 2 sentences long." In your version here ↗, the first 8 paragraphs are 2 sentences long. Eight paragraphs alone is pretty extreme, but paragraphs are also typically 3-5 sentences long. It makes for disjointed reading as single scenes can be spread across multiple paragraphs. So I don't take issue with the changes you make, just the breaking a plot into 13 paragraphs from 7. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 16:17, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
:::Thank you, darkwarriorblake, I will keep this in mind. Anne8Ko (talk) 21:42, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
::::{{tps}} I just wanted to chime in and state that, during a recent (unrelated) discussing on paragraph breaks at another film article, Talk:The Marvels#Random paragraph breaks ↗, rationale of MOS:VAR ↗, MOS:LINEBREAKS ↗, and WP:PARAGRAPH ↗ were brought up. I would encourage Anne to review the former explanatory essay and the latter two guidelines if they have not already. I would also like to urge Anne to not assume ill intent of our fellow contributors, such as insinuating that Betty is not who they say they are and that they are trolling, and to please remember to always WP:Assume good faith ↗. This is a collaborative effort, so everyone is welcome to some constructive feedback every once in a while, but by no means should this impede anyone's contributions. <span style="font-family:Courier;">&mdash; ''Trailblazer''<u>'''101'''</u>🔥 (discuss · contribs ↗)</span> 21:56, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
:::::Thank you for your response. I am always open to constructive feedback, it is just more helpful when it is presented positively. Now, thanks to another contributor wording their response differently, I have fully taken in the information and will in future improve my editing further. Recent edit reversion

In this edit here ↗, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy ↗.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. <span style="color:#000E2F;padding:0 4px;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">S Philbrick</span><span style=";padding:0 4px;color:# 000;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">(Talk)</span> 12:14, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

:I spent HOURS painstakingly working on the plot. Where do copyright violations come into play? Anne8Ko (talk) 15:45, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

Just FYI

I recently reverted ↗ this "tweak" ↗ on your part that essentially reverted an edit I had made back at the beginning of the month. You may not have previously been aware of MOS:STATEABBR ↗; you are now. Daniel Case (talk) 22:53, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

:I have always believed that NYC and LA are similar to Washington D.C. in their extremely wide useage. People referring to New York in reference to the massive east coast city is just wrong...I am a New Englander and the distinction is important, as New York State's people OUTSIDE of the massive metropolis also matter. Is there a reference table I can consult? Frankly, clarifying New York by changing it to NYC and then connecting it via hyperlink I do a LOT, same with Los Angeles or LA, so I confess I do disagree.
