Iso Codes
Hi, why did you remove ISO Codes from disambiguation pages? Àncilu (talk) 05:39, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
:If you mean Goth (disambiguation) ↗, did you read my edit summary? —Antonissimo (talk) 05:47, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
::Yes, but why can’t it be listed on both pages? If someone searches for “goth” using the ISO code, why should they have to take an extra step by clicking the link to the other disambiguation page? Àncilu (talk) 05:52, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
:::Feel free to propose merging Gothic (disambiguation) ↗ into Goth (disambiguation) ↗. —Antonissimo (talk) 18:46, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
::::I don’t understand what you mean; they are two completely separate pages. In both cases, there is a link to this entry, but for different reasons: in ‘goth’ because of the code, and in ‘gothic’ because of the name of the writing system. I see that another user has already added the code again Àncilu (talk) 18:50, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
:::If "goth" is a standard code for the ISO thing, its entry on Goth (disambiguation) ↗ ought to mention it directly. —Antonissimo (talk) 21:26, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
Greetings from a fledging Wikipedian
Hello! I find myself here following your simple yet subtly brilliant comment left on the talk page on the 5th Dimensional Space article. I have been reading and utilising Wikipedia all of my life, and now, seeing that I am about to graduate from university, I finally have the necessary time and skills to apply to myself to contributing to Wikipedia.
Clearly, there is much for me to learn about editing, and the inner machinations of the site, and its subsequent etiquette. I have found your user page rather inspiring. I therefore humbly ask for any and all personal advice you might have for me before I begin, and ask also for any helpful hyperlinks and shortcuts that I should have in hand before I begin editing.
What should I know? What must I know? And; what do you wish you knew when you first started?
Many thanks and good fortune to you! Alchemistal (talk) 14:00, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
:Subtly brilliant, wow. Flattery is always welcome. Now if only I knew which comment you meant ({{u|Tamfang}} is my old name).
:{{u|Reconrabbit}} gave good advice on your Talk page. Just do it; if you do it wrong, someone will promptly undo it. See also Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle ↗; that's likely the most important thing to know about etiquette, apart from common sense like don't make it personal ↗. "Edit warring", i.e. repeating a change that has been undone rather than making a case on the Talk page that your version is better, is a good way to get banned for a day.
:I mostly stay out of the inner machinations (they make my eyes glaze over), and rarely add much material; I tweak awkward language where I find it – that's what I'm good at – and occasionally take part in deletion debates. The most drastic thing I've done recently was to rewrite a section of Blazon ↗ that was too-literally translated from French and, even if more sensitively translated, inaccurate for English!
:You will be automatically notified when someone reverts your edit or tags you in Talk, but not necessarily when someone replies to your comments. Go to Preferences / Watchlist and activate "Add pages and files I edit to my watchlist" (and pick a finite time rather than Permanent); then from time to time look at Special:Watchlist ↗ to see what has new activity. I do this every day because I have accumulated thousands.
:What's your major? —Antonissimo (talk) 20:49, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
::Alchemistal: I concur with all of the above. The Watchlist is a very useful tool.
::Antonissimo: I can't help but notice that since you've mentioned me here that 1) somehow we have never crossed paths before and 2) you are linking to a long-deleted image file on your User: page. It's the type of thing that I would have fixed quietly myself if it wasn't a bespoke userbox. -- <span style="color:#4E8321">Reconrabbit</span> (<span class="skin-invert" style="color:#073131">talk</span>) 21:00, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
:::{{small|I replaced the image. Would have done it years ago but I misremembered that the box was imported whole. Thanks for the nudge. —Antonissimo (talk) 21:42, 18 June 2026 (UTC)}}
:::Looks like you concentrate in zoology, while I do heraldry and geometry (and whatever catches my slothly ↗ eye). —Antonissimo (talk) 23:20, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
::::For a good while I concentrated in chemistry, and there is plenty of messing with point group ↗s there. -- <span style="color:#4E8321">Reconrabbit</span> (<span class="skin-invert" style="color:#073131">talk</span>) 23:26, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
::Some excellent advice. Thank you both! I imagine I will be in touch whenever I encounter an obstacle or need further advice. Good health to you all! Alchemistal (talk) 09:06, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
