I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay ↗. Before getting too in-depth, please read about the '''simplified ruleset ↗'''. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions ↗, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style ↗. If you need help look at '''Wikipedia:Help ↗''' and the FAQ ↗ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump ↗ (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk ↗ (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial ↗ and Policy Library ↗. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal ↗. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on '''my user talk page'''.

====Additional tips====
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!
- If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox ↗ is for you.
- You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
- If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the articles for deletion ↗ page. There is also a votes for undeletion ↗ page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
- If you believe something you added or created has been unfairly treated, talk to the user or follow the steps in '''resolving disputes ↗'''
- If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC ↗ client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp ↗. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
- If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the ''Random page'' button in the sidebar, or check out the ''Open Task'' message in the Community Portal ↗.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Nancy-Université.gif
Thank you for uploading ''':Image:Nancy-Université.gif ↗'''. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content ↗. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline ↗ is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag ↗; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion ↗. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page ↗. Thank you.<!-- Template:No fair -->BetacommandBot (talk) 16:29, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
This is going too far
I don't like this bot, BetacommandBot, which threatened to delete :Image:Nancy-Université.gif ↗ (the concern has been addressed, by the way). Deleters are already zealous ; if they are seconded by bots nowadays, Wikipedia will become hell. Being threatened of deletion by bots is frightening ! Deletion should only be able to be suggested by human beings, in my opinion. And not without any prior discussion on the discussion page :-o ! Speedy deletion is shocking when the image has been sitting there for almost 2 years. Without permanent watch from the uploader, a useful pic will be speedily deleted, which is a nuisance ; prior discussion would let someone else fill in the missing rationale. All the complaints about this bot are the sign that something is wrong ! Baronnet (talk) 23:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
GeneWeb
left|48px| ↗
Another editor has added the <code>{{tl|prod}}</code> template to the article GeneWeb ↗, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion ↗ process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not ↗ and Wikipedia:Notability ↗). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page ↗. If you remove the <code>{{tl|prod}}</code> template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion ↗, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. <small>Do you want to opt out ↗ of receiving this notice?</small> <!-- Template:PRODNote --> User:Ceyockey (<small>''talk to me''</small>) 02:09, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of David Kuijers
left|48px| ↗
A proposed deletion ↗ template has been added to the article David Kuijers ↗, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process{{#if: Nothing to indicate particular notability.|  because of the following concern:|.}}
:<b>Nothing to indicate particular notability.</b>
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion ↗, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not ↗" and Wikipedia's deletion policy ↗). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the <code>{{tl|dated prod}}</code> notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page ↗.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process ↗, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria ↗ or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion ↗, where it may be deleted if consensus ↗ to delete is reached.<!-- Template:PRODWarning --> Ricky81682 (talk) 10:59, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

<big>'''Hi, {{BASEPAGENAME}}, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron ↗ WikiProject!'''</big>
We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles and content that have been nominated for deletion ↗. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable, and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles and content to quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

- WikiProject Article rescue squadron's (ARS) main aim is to help improve Wikipedia articles and content. If someone seeks help, please try to assist if you are able. Likewise feel free to ask for help, advice and clarification.
- Sometimes we are asked to help rescue articles by people new to our notability ↗ and sourcing ↗ policies. If the article is not fixable we can help explain why and offer alternatives. Sometimes editors who are new to Wikipedia may perceive the deletion of "their" article as discouraging. Encourage civility ↗ and maybe even {{tl|welcome}} them if they have only been templated with deletion messages.
- The ''Articles for deletion'' (AfD) discussion is where the concerns regarding each article are brought up and addressed. To be an effective member of the project you need to know how AfD works as well as how to improve articles. Introduction to deletion process ↗ gives a good overview and some good advice for newcomers to deletion ↗.
- Our primary work is improving Wikipedia articles and content. A more dynamic list with article links and descriptions are located at our rescue list ↗.
- If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to the list of translators available ↗. Articles and sources that use non-English languages often need translation for those of us who cannot translate for ourselves.
- Many important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page ↗; it is recommended that you [{{SERVER}}{{localurl:Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron|action=watch}} watchlist it].

You are now a Reviewer
right|130px ↗
Hello. Your account has been granted the "{{mono|reviewer}}" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits ↗ on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial ↗ scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed ↗ to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles ↗, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages ↗.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism ↗ or BLP violations ↗, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process ↗). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here ↗.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. <!-- Template:Reviewer-notice --> Courcelles (talk) 05:08, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Geneanet ↗
left|link=|48px| ↗
The article Geneanet ↗ has been proposed for deletion ↗ because of the following concern:
:'''Does not meet WP:WEB ↗ or WP:GNG ↗'''
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons ↗.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary ↗ or on the article's talk page ↗.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process ↗, but other deletion process ↗es exist. In particular, the speedy deletion ↗ process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion ↗ allows discussion to reach consensus ↗ for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> Boleyn (talk) 07:10, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Alan Burns, 4th Baron Inverclyde
You added that Inverclyde was awarded the Medal of French Gratitude ↗, for which, thank you.
However, in doing so, you deleted his award of La Medaille de la Reconnaissance. This source indicates that he did reeive this award: https://www.pglglasgow.org.uk/burns-1241
Any reason not to restore?
For your interest, there were two officers of the same name and rank in the Scots Guards. The Regiment, for an unknown reason, burnt the records of this Alan Burns.

:The Medal of French Gratitude ↗ ''is'' the Médaille de la Reconnaissance ! It is the name under which it is usually know in English. If the mention was restored, it would mean mentioning the same medal twice. It is preferable, in my opinion, to mention the name which enables to link to the Wikipedia article about this honour.
