Edit summaries

Please, friend, consider using edit summaries when editing articles. It makes it so much easier for those of us who patrol these pages. --Midnightdreary (talk) 13:04, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Edit summaries

25px|alt=Information icon|link= ↗ Hello. Thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia ↗.

{{The edit-summary field}}

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries ↗ are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:
{{Div col|colwidth=20em}}
{{Div col end}}
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account ↗ you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting {{myprefs|3|check=Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary}}.
Thanks!<!-- Template:uw-editsummary --> --Midnightdreary (talk) 02:32, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
:More than 5 years later, and I'm back to inquire: Why do you refuse to use edit summaries? Other editors who watch pages find them extremely useful. Not using one can be construed as suspicious. I look forward to your response. --Midnightdreary (talk) 12:52, 30 January 2026 (UTC)

Public domain images

Hello again! I have additional advice to offer. Please do not upload public domain images here on Wikipedia. Typically, Wikipedia images are non-free (i.e. still under copyright but subject to fair use ↗). If they are on English Wikipedia, they would not be available under all the additional language versions. Instead, public domain images are much more appropriate to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons ↗. Also, be sure to note your original source; are all these 19th century pages scanned from your personal collection? Or, did you download them from a web site? Either way, please mention it. --Midnightdreary (talk) 02:37, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Recent edit reversion

In this edit here ↗, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy ↗.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I understand that some of your edit consisted of a direct quote appropriately marked with quotation marks which is acceptable but it went on to include a description of the style of the poem which was a word for word copy of the original.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. <span style="color:#000E2F;padding:0 4px;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">S Philbrick</span><span style=";padding:0 4px;color:# 000;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">(Talk)</span> 13:12, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:Atimetodie.jpg

64px|left|alt=|link= ↗
Thank you for uploading :File:Atimetodie.jpg ↗. However, it is currently missing information on its '''copyright''' and '''licensing''' status. Wikipedia takes copyright ↗ very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page ↗. You may refer to the '''image use policy ↗''' to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on '''copyright tags ↗''' may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion ↗ and ask for a chance to fix the problem.<!-- Template:You can request undeletion -->

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads ↗.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Jukebox Saturday Night ↗, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Paula Kelly ↗. Categorization

Hello @Cksavich, thank you for your contributions across Wikipedia! I've particularly noticed your interest in adding categories to pages related to Lord Byron ↗.

Remember that when you do so, you should—as a general rule—only add categories that are ''the most specific'' ''descriptor'' of the page. For Lachin y Gair ↗, for instance, the page should have "1807 poems" and "English poems" but neither "1807 works" nor "British poems" (because these pages are the parent categories). See: WP:SUBCAT ↗. Thanks!

Ways to improve An Address, to the Irish People

Hello, Cksavich,

Thank you for creating An Address, to the Irish People ↗.

I have tagged the page ↗ as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process ↗ and note that:

{{Quote|1=The sources are there but there needs to be closer cititations after each sentance, or at least after every paragraph. Some whole sections have not cititation? thanks}}

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with <code><nowiki>{{Re|</nowiki>Aszx5000<nowiki>}}</nowiki></code>. Remember to sign your reply with <code><nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code>. 25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to :Song to the Men of England ↗ when you modified the page, you introduced {{cl|Unknown parameters|unknown parameters}}. Just because you specify {{para|some_param|{{var|some_variable}}}} does not always mean that variable will display. The {{para|some_param}} must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview ↗ button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a '''Show preview''' button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history ↗ of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk ↗ for assistance.
