Hyphens

Hi Denicho. I just noticed some of your recent contributions ↗, and thought I should offer some feedback on some aspects, such as using hyphens - I hope you don't mind.

Now, whilst personally, I have considerable respect for the idea of using hyphens for compound nouns, I feel that you & I may be swimming against the tide to some degree, esp. on Wikipedia (WP).

For instance, I would be inclined to insert a hyphen in table-tennis, whereas WP doesn't.

Overall though, I think WP is great, & I'd rather work with it than against it.

So, I've grown accustomed to observing its guidelines at its wp:manual of style ↗ (MOS). I don't know whether you're familiar with the latter?

One of these is MOS:HYPHEN ↗.

Prpblems can occur if we change hyphenation. For instance, when you changed the yut ↗ article from the prior version ↗ to your version ↗, you'll see that you changed the link to board game ↗ to the wp:redlink ↗ of board-game ↗. The latter link of course then fails (so I've restored the original now).

Problems can ensue with changes to any punctuation other than in general free text. Anywhere that the text is used as part of the syntax - for instance in image names - the syntax fails.

Shanhai Pass

Hey, Denicho. Do you really think the etymology is necessary on Shanhai Pass ↗? I think the name's pretty self-explanatory. To be honest, I dislike how a lot of articles about Chinese subjects devote so many words explaining the literal meaning of the characters instead of actually talking about the subject itself. It just ends up looking so cluttered. Also, as far as the Chinese characters and alternative romanization of the name that you added to the first paragraph, those are already in the infobox. Generally if an article has that info in the infobox, I don't think it's necessary in the lead paragraph. See Deng Xiaoping ↗ and Ming dynasty ↗, for example.
