Mills University Studies High School

HI! Thanks for all the good work you are doing. I was beginning to think that I was the only editor that had ever heard of the school article guidelines! A few of the articles you have created have made there way onto my watchlist, including the one above. This is not a criticism and please don't take it as such. I am hoping it is a way we can help each other. I noticed that the coordinates you have actually geolocate to a block away. Now, I do not know how to determine geocoordinates, and have wanted to find out how. I don't know if the school project has a precision standard for geocoordinates, but the NRHP project wants them correct to a foot.

So, if you would be so kind as to tell me where you got the coordinates so I will know how you get them, I will try to get these coordinates more precise. I am also going to leave a question at a few project talk pages asking how to get coordinates and will share what I learn. Sound like a deal? ::: I usually use http://www.geocoder.us/ to get both type of coordinates. However, some schools use addresses that may not appear on this site. So then I type in the school's name with the word coordinates in Google to find (usually) multiple pages with the coordinates. I enter the coordinates, do a Preview, and then use the Google maps within the Toolserver.org GeoHack selections. If the school appears on the coordinates, I call it good. Now the possibly most official way to get coordinates is to use GNIS Feature Search at geonames.usgs.gov. For example, see the first reference on Sylvan Hills High School ↗. If I remember right, a second is about 12', so that should be plenty accurate. Thanks. I learned something and seen some really well done school articles. NCES v Census Bureau on number of school districts

The Census of government list I got from the Census Bureau has ~12k school governments. The NCES list you pointed to has ~18k of school districts. That's a very big delta. Do you have any insight into the difference between how these two organizations are counting? Is it that 1 in three school districts are not independent governments? : Not knowing the direct Census data, I suspect it does not contain non-traditional school districts, which I refer to as those "districts" which are usually one location and possibly no students. For example, go to http://nces.ed.gov/ccd/districtsearch/ ↗ and select Arkansas from the drop-down menu with no other filtering, then Search. It lists many entries with "0" Students and "1" Schools. If you go back to the main search, and remove "regional" in the Additional Characteristics and search, I suspect (at least) those are not in the Census data. Play around with Additional Characteristics and searching only one item with a state, and I suspect you will find which ones are not in Census.

: As an aside, I do hope what you are doing does improve your entries. I have to be honest and say that I am not a fan of all the one-liner entries that you did in Arkansas. Being a red entry in a list is not the worst thing, but needing to correct nearly every part of the work originally done is likely worse in the long run. If you have the opportunity, may I recommend (a) all {{{chool-stub}}} entries become {{{statename-school-stub}}}; (b) a Google search result in not the proper entry as an External link for the school district and any entry even one should have a bullet (*); (c) please spell out the Sch Dist names; (d) do not abbreviate the state name and if possible, make the County Name, State linkable. I hope you reconsider creating articles using a script and use a sandbox to create articles before publishing. While not vandalism, they are {{{multiple issues}}} candidates and not everyone (including me) has the ability to use scripts and correcting these entries will takes months or more than a year to find and fix. McGehee School District

Hi! Is there a reference for these additions ↗? Dumas has its own school district (Dumas School District ↗) and it is a small municipality that is entirely within the school district, so it cannot be within McGehee School District. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:55, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

: Excellent question. The reference that I didn't include (my bad) is {{URL|http://www.usa.com/school-district-0509630.htm}}. I have generally found that USA.com is accurate, particularly with square mileage and have used {{URL|http://www.usa.com/arkansas-state-school-district.htm}} for many of the school district articles within Arkansas, I probably have created or updated 100+ articles, with more emphasis on high school articles. That said, I would be interested if you have personal knowledge of the area and if you feel that including Dumas is not accurate (even outlying areas) in the listing. I have less confidence in USA.com's accuracy when it comes to Cities within a School District, and have occasionally not entered a particular city based on personal knowledge.

: If you open up two browser tabs and look at {{URL|http://www.usa.com/dumas-ar.htm}} (Dumas) versus {{URL|http://www.usa.com/school-district-0509630.htm}} (McGehee School District), I would agree with you that Dumas is not within McGehee SD and the Dumas can be stricken, although I would still like to add the reference to the article. :: I think we should use a better reference: the US Census Bureau maps. http://www.census.gov/geo/www/maps/pl10_map_suite/sch_dist.html has listings of school district maps. So, the Desha County map ↗ shows portions of the district. The Drew County map ↗ also shows portions. To the right of the image there are the UNI codes which correspond to the school districts. When checking school attendance info, use US Census Bureau maps

Hey! I know this edit was made awhile ago... I found this edit ↗ stating that Ola was partially served by Danville School District ↗. The school district map ↗ from the U.S. Census Bureau ↗ doesn't show this, and Ola is quite far from the district border.

If the district doesn't post maps of its own borders, be sure to check out the US Census Bureau maps ↗. Note they're from 2010, so consolidations and mergers may have occurred since then.

Found additional info on Arkansas school mergers from 1965 to 1998

In https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED458075.pdf It gives exact populations of districts being merged from 1965 to 1998. If you think these are useful for school district articles, feel free to add the figures!

Which page Moyaone Reserve ↗ or Moyaone Reserve Historic District ↗

Hi,

I had been plugging away on a draft page on the Moyaone Reserve ↗. While I was working on that, you created a stub page at the Moyaone Reserve Historic District ↗.

I submitted my page and it was accepted. But I wasn't sure what to do with the remaining page. Curious what you think?

My gut is that that the right name for the page is Moyaone Reserve, as that's the name that the community calls itself and goes beyond the specifics of the historic district -- and predates the historic district.

"Historic District" is a recent add-on which consists of a sign that's included in Soren's article, but not much more. It's significant, but it's not like a small historic district with a lot of interesting buildings close together to look at. But including a link from "MR Historic District" to "Moyaone Reserve" would be good.
