Personally knowing someone is not usually sufficient for adding comments to Wikipedia, as you can see by the comment below that was left for me in 2007. The comments you are adding would have to be backed up by published sources. David Malone (talk)

It seems to be backed up in the same paragraph by a series of quotations of Dijkstra that are commonly quoted in the community, and with references to publications where they are attributed to him. They seem to tally with "wit, eloquence and way with words". Later in the article, they are also backed up by the introduction to his Turing Award. David Malone (talk)

David, it seems that much of this article is gratuitously positive with regard to his personality and social skills, with little reference back-up to support. As an ex-colleague professional of EDs, I feel that it is not the most solid Wiki of profiles. That may well be true - it sounds like you'd know much better than I do, as I never knew him personally. Probably, one way to fix it is find or write an article giving a bit of balance, get it published somewhere reputable and then reference. I did find this article https://medium.com/@acidflask/this-guys-arrogance-takes-your-breath-away-5b903624ca5f and subsequent online discussion at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11796557 that you could probably use to support some of the points you want to make. You could probably work them into the article at the end of that paragraph by giving a contrasting point of view and backing it up? David Malone (talk)

Mount Temple references

Thanks for your message. One of the most important thresholds for inclusion would be ''published sources''. Unfortunately, "I heard it somewhere", or "I was there" is not enough - i know it is frustrating, cos you know it is correct. I've had the same experience with other articles. But, generally, if the people are indeed notable, it shouldn't be hard to find the refs. See what Google had - U2 and Chris Nolan are no problem, obviously. Hyphens

Please be aware of Wikipedia's Manual of Style for hyphens ↗, which says "Avoid using a hyphen after a standard ''{{nowrap|-ly}}'' adverb ({{xt|a newly available home}}, {{xt|a wholly owned subsidiary}}) ...". :In the article in question, if you read from the start of the clause, it could be the advertising that is carefully crafted until you hit the last word, so adding the hyphen clarifies the situation, because it makes it clear you should expect another word that will be modified. Cases where the hyphen is clarifying seem to be permitted by the style guide? I guess you could rewrite, if you think it would be clearer. David Malone (talk) 21:28, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
