Football club season pages

Hello, and thank you for trying to improve articles on football club seasons. I think there are two main reasons why your changes to the transfer table layouts have been reverted (by several different editors).

First, Wikipedia has a Manual of Style ↗ (MoS for short) that outlines the general house style that all article content is supposed to follow. Although many football club season articles ''do'' use the format you added, that format contravenes the MoS in several ways. Particularly: flags should only be used in a football context to show what country a player (or club) represents in context of international competition, and not just to show what country a player was born in or a club is located in; flags shouldn't be used instead of words, e.g. in a nationality column; we're advised not to use small font size unless absolutely necessary and not to use coloured print e.g. in table headings without a good reason. The sections MOS:FLAG ↗ and MOS:TEXT#Other text formatting concerns ↗ talk about this.

Second, consistency of appearance is important within a series of articles. All the Birmingham City season articles back to the start use pretty much the same simple format, and I'm guessing this is the same with Luton, Stoke and others. It'd be good if those season articles that use "your" format or similar would standardise on something simple, straightforward and MoS-compliant.

Football club season pages (Response)

Hello Struway,

Thank you for the welcome! All I was trying to do was keep the three pages consistent with all the other Championship clubs' 2019-20 season pages, as the design, at least in my eyes, was far more aesthetically pleasing than the standard issue being reverted back to.

I can understand meeting MoS requirements, so in future I shall simply refrain from amending Birmingham's, Luton's and Stoke's pages (I'm an Aston Villa fan so it took a lot of willpower to even want to make Birmingham's page look better!)

Date template

Why are we changing football squad date templates without changing any squad info? You did it at Fulham and Blackpool. Seasider53 (talk) 13:50, 30 January 2026 (UTC)

:Hello, this will either have been because the layout was off (if there's an odd number of players the column with the higher number needs to be on the left so it's an adjustment of where fs mid falls) or the date has been left unchanged despite an update to the squad (I've seen pages where players have somehow arrived on a date before their transfer's announced because those don't always get updated).
