Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/The Rambling Man ↗



An arbitration case regarding The Rambling man has now closed and the final decision is viewable at the link above. The following remedies have been enacted:
#{{user|The Rambling Man}}'s resignation as an administrator is to be considered under controversial circumstances, and so his administrator status may only be regained via a successful request for adminship ↗.
#{{user|The Rambling Man}} is prohibited from insulting and/or belittling other editors. If The Rambling Man finds himself tempted to engage in prohibited conduct, he is to disengage ↗ and either let the matter drop or refer it to another editor to resolve. If however, in the opinion of an uninvolved administrator, The Rambling Man does engage in prohibited conduct, he may be blocked for a duration consistent with the blocking policy ↗. The first four blocks under this provision shall be arbitration enforcement actions and may only be reviewed or appealed at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard ↗. Should a fifth block prove necessary, the blocking administrator must notify the Arbitration Committee of the block via a Request for Clarification and Amendment ↗ so that the remedy may be reviewed. The enforcing administrator may also at their discretion fully protect The Rambling Man's talk page for the duration of the block.<p>Nothing in this remedy prevents enforcement of policy by uninvolved administrators in the usual way.
#{{user|The Rambling Man}} and {{user|George Ho}} are indefinitely prohibited from interacting with, or commenting on ↗, each other anywhere on Wikipedia (subject to the ordinary exceptions ↗).
#{{user|George Ho}} is indefinitely restricted from participating in selecting main page content. For clarity, this means he may not participate in:

Hi George Ho. You been tagging a lots of ''Survivor'' cast photos uploaded by User:JoyfullySmile for speedy deletion per :WP:F7 ↗. I'm not disputing your reasons for doing so and want to thank you for digging through Getty's inventory to verify the images as being {{tlx|db-f7}}. I'm only posting to remind you to ask you to notify the uploader of the issues with these files, particularly the one you brought to FFD. I don't think you need to add a notification for each of the F7 files, but it would be a good idea to at least post something (possibly including a list of the files) to explain why the files are a problem per F7. Not only will this be courteous, but it might also help the uploader avoid making the same mistake again in the future. Perhaps you were intending to do this, and I'm just being premature by posting about it here; I apologize if that's the case. AS I'm sure you probably know, F7 deletions can happen fairly quickly (particularly those tagged per :WP:GETTY ↗), and it can also be easy to forget about a file you've tagged after it has been deleted when you're busy with other things. Another advantage of notifying the uploader is that it shows an good-faith attempt was made to make them aware of an issue with their uploads; so, if they continue to uploaded similar files in the future despite said warning, an administrator will be less inclined to cut them some slack and more inclined to issue a block. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:50, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

::I think a user talk page notification is probably better than a ping: a user can set their preferences to ignore pings, but that won't be an issue with a user talk page post. F7 deletions can happen quite quickly, sometimes even before you have time to add a notification; so, a user talk page post might end up being noticed before an article talk page post. This user appears to be editing in good-faith and just is not familiar with things like F7. They appear to be monitoring their user talk page; so, it might be better for you to post something their as well, even if it's just a {{tlx|Please see}} template to the article talk page discussion you started. ::::Whether a user blanks their user talk page of notifications isn't really relevant to the notification itself; they're allowed to do so per :WP:BLANKING ↗. However, they can't blank their talk page and then claim later they weren't notified; moreover, it will be assumed that if they blank their talk page of notifications that they read the notifications and understood what they meant. FWIW, the F7 template instructions do say "consider notifying", but the FFD instructions are much more strongly worded and say "Give due notice". Moreover, relying on bots to do something you can easily do yourself doesn't necessarily transfer the responsibility to the bot if something goes amiss. FWIW, I only meant this post to be a friendly one. I wasn't trying to pressure you into doing something you don't want to do. Greetings, I am experiencing my own world of health issues. While I do not agree that a single image should be featured in the article, I have a couple of concerns. I was going to advertise in a couple of places, since it is an RFC. I looked at previous involved editors. I have had AFD's derailed because SPAs got involved instead of marking and ignoring ↗. I normally don't get into the weeds on the internet, in particular with moderators but I recieved a Google Alert notifying me that my Wikipedia page (?) was deleted by your judgement saying that I have not done anything notable in the past 10 years, in and outside of my time on Reality TV. Winning a TV show the 1st time, and coming 2nd place the 2nd time, on one of the longest running reality TV shows on one of the major TV networks might not be enough, but then I went on to create a Twitch career which provides clean, positive, entertainment to 1000s daily, in addition to that, my content airs internationally via Gametoon in 40 countries, you may have seen my Cuphead playthrough on the Hotel TV while you were sipping tea in Bulgaria. In addition to that, I also won an emmy for as a castmemeber on the peacock hit show traitors. In additonal I am also a game dev, who contribbutes daily to the game dev community, you may know some of my friends, Eddmund McMIllen, and Derek Yu to name a few. In additon to that, I know you are viewer of my dear friend Northernlion, I do not think he would appreciate the targeted SEO attack. In additon I also am familar with your favorite RTV person Ian Terry. Either way, I do not take this personal, I merely invite you to a humble audio discouse call, on this topic so I can learn about the process of your judging people who you ahvent met or research, and took down the hard work of the people who do know me and have researched me as evident in the important interview with the Ultima Online legend known as StraightStupid, which was linked in the wikipedia article has sense been deleted. :Honestly, I thought I exactly knew the history of WP:civility ↗. However, I read the notice box at Wikipedia talk:civility ↗ about the policy itself and then realized that the page was made in early 2004. It then became policy in mid-2004 ↗.
:According to the notice box there, as I learned recently, perhaps whatever went on between Larry Sanger and another editor back in early 2000s (see one user's biased essay against Sanger) must've motivated the community into adopting the Civility policy. Hey, Wikipedia ↗ was at its early developmental stage back then, and number of editors were increasing further and further.
:The gap between Wikipedia's establishment and the policy's was three years, nevertheless. Over time, the policy grew and grew, but even the (in)consistency of enforcing the civility policy got to the point where the ArbCom opened the "Civility enforcement" case in 2012 ↗. You can try looking over other civility-related cases at WP:Arbitration/Index/Cases ↗, especially ones after that. You can also look at past discussions at User talk:Jimbo Wales about the civility policy itself.
:Sure, the consistency of enforcing the policy has been... seemingly suspect, and even "old accounts" vs. "new accounts" (in Larry's words) (or experienced vs newcomer) stuff hasn't helped matters. However, the policy has been in place for further stability of the project since the policy's establishment.

I don't think the people that opposed this realized what the difference is between a cover song and an interpolation is. Nor do I think the closing administrator realized that a consensus of 5 to 4 was reached. "What a Man" by Lynda Lyndell and "Whatta Man" by Salt-n-Pepa are two totally distinct and seperate songs. False accusation of sockpuppetry



Hi George,

While i do appreciate your diligence in maintaining wikipedia, I am politely reminding you to respect the community. You recently mentioned me as a suspected sockpuppet with zero evidence other than a large lapse in edits (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/~2026-34185-55) . Per the wikipedia policy this is entirely normal behavior. Furthermore, i was unable to edit the page to defend myself, so I am asking you here to please remove your false accusation against me unless you have any evidence at all, which I'm highly confident you don't have.
