Introduction to contentious topics

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as ''contentious topics''. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. Thank you for your comments on the talk page for the article on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act ↗. It must have required significant work to argue that compellingly and to present your thinking that reasonably. Wikipedia is diminished when people who are willing and able to achieve that are discouraged from contributing. Personally I feel the loss all the more keenly because I come to Wikipedia to learn and sometimes to form judgments, which means I need to see good presentations of each side, for any issue that is sufficiently nuanced to have two sides. I'm guessing that the problem is worst for "articles with a contemporary political valence" (your apt phrase), so I hope you can still find areas of Wikipedia where the reception of your contributions makes those contributions worth your efforts.
