We admire them and want our visitors to see how fierce and clever they are, so we stuff them and mount them for close inspection. We put up all sorts of carefully worded signs to get people to appreciate them as much as we do. But however much we adore tigers, a live tiger loose in the museum is seen as an urgent problem." --WP:TIGER ↗ </span><br>

Wikipedia Celebrates 750 Years Of American Independence

<!-- User:DoNotArchiveUntil 03:14, 19 January 2038 (UTC) -->
"The Revolution's main adversaries were the patriots and the people from Braveheart," said speaker Tim Capodice, who has edited hundreds of Wikipedia entries on subjects as diverse as Euclidian geometry and Ratfucking ↗. "The patriots, being a rag-tag group of misfits, almost lost on several occasions. But after a string of military antics and a convoluted scheme involving chicken feathers and an inflatable woman, the British were eventually defeated despite a last-minute surge, by a score of 89–87."https://www.theonion.com/wikipedia-celebrates-750-years-of-american-independence-1819568571 ↗<br>

Ya gotta love The New York Times...

:"The armed man’s motivations were murky. But he was wearing a sign around his neck that said 'anti-contact non-offending pedophile' and he told the audience he was going to die by suicide to protest what he called Wikipedia’s 'don’t ask, don’t tell' policy on pedophiles. The site has a rule that editors 'who identify themselves as pedophiles will be blocked and banned indefinitely'. "
Source:https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/17/nyregion/wikipedia-conference-gunman.html ↗https://removepaywalls.com/https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/17/nyregion/wikipedia-conference-gunman.html ↗

The "rule" appears to refer to :Template:Child protection ↗ and Wikipedia:Child protection ↗, both of which which I strongly support. As in "I would quit Wikipedia in protest, delete all my user pages, and scramble my password if Wikipedia ever decided not to protect children".

I don't know about you, but to me the armed man’s motivations weren't murky at all.

BTW, does anyone know what "draped in a multicolored flag" refers to? --Guy Macon (talk) 15:21, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

:For those following along at home, the above hilarious response refers to me saying '''"Don't make me pull this encyclopedia over. I will do it."''' at User talk:Roxy the dog#Behavior. --Guy Macon (talk) 18:52, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
::The fact that you didn't put ''hilarious'' in scare-quotes is the nicest thing that's happened to be today:) Talk-page stalkers will also want to check the edit-summaries for a completeness sake. DMacks (talk) 21:59, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
:::I genuinely found it to be funny. Then again, I loved the comedy movies ''Night on Earth ↗'', ''What We Do in the Shadows ↗'' and ''Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter ↗'', so my idea of what is and is not funny may not reflect mainstream views... :) --Guy Macon (talk) 23:41, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

Not-a-Trouting

Greetings, Guy.

I saw your comments on this thread ↗, and took a look at your user page.

I noticed the "This user tries to do the right thing. If they make a mistake, please '''let them know'''" userbox, as well as the "This user pledges to return to Old Fashioned Wikipedian Values" one, and the "Trout ↗ this user" button. I'm not trouting you, since I don't know you at all, let alone well. But seeing all these userboxes and indications made me feel comfortable enough to write this, which I hope is okay.

In particular, I looked through Old Fashioned Wikipedian Values, which I was not familiar with, and I really like it, and think it may apply here. I think that that "comedy routine", as your interlocutor had put it, would have been lovely for a long time wiki collaborator and friend (and I honestly found it quite amusing, if inconsiderate), but could easily be quite annoying and even offensive to someone who seemingly put a lot of sincere effort into trying to improve the encyclopedia. So I think that even if you wanted to criticize the images themselves (putting aside the neutrality and descriptiveness issues), there was a much better way of doing that, and certainly once you received the response that clarified the way your comment was received, your following response could have been more empathetic.

I hope that this is received in the spirit of Old Fashioned Wikipedian Values, as it was meant.

Thanks and good tidings, غوّاص العلم (Ghawwas) (talk) 08:32, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

:Criticism is indeed welcome. The rumors that I am a delicate flower that wilts if anyone disagrees with me are baseless. That being said, I stand by my statement, which was not intended to be funny. I also note that the person I responded to asked for "NPOV guidance" then completely rejected the guidance (Image text needs to be neutral and descriptive, "despite its illegality and defeat" and "violating treaties in the process" violates NPOV, images should avoid flashing or moving elements, images should not imply that only males are important). --Guy Macon (talk) 13:02, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Thacker

Thanks for following up on the Thacker issue - someone not involved on the talk page should. I apologize for posting about the RfC which then immediately got shut down (it's been clarified to me that the shut down may not have been proper policy) so I appreciate you took the time to look at the sources. <span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype','Book Antiqua',Palatino, serif; color:#0645AD; font-weight:bold;">∞ HardScience</span> (talk) <!--Template:Undated--><small class="autosigned">—&nbsp;Preceding undated ↗ comment added 21:29, 8 July 2026 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

I found something really bad on the Infowars article lol

Yo, I don't really edit wikipedia or use any of the advanced features or whatever but I read it a lot and I was on the Infowars article and I found a horrendous couple sentences that have been left unchanged for like a year. Infowars#Removals from other websites ↗ If you look at the ending of the second paragraph in this section it doesn't make sense and needs to be rewritten. I would just fix this myself if I could but the page is protected, I didn't know what to do so I just went to the edit history and told a couple people who had edited it about this, so by the time you see this it might already be fixed. Anyway that's all, thanks for your time lol DrumstickJar (talk) 05:13, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
