Welcome

Hello, '''{{PAGENAME}}''', and welcome ↗ to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions ↗. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the '''Wikipedia Boot Camp ↗''', where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type '''<code>{&#123;helpme}}</code>''' on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian ↗! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: &#126;&#126;&#126;. Four tildes (&#126;&#126;&#126;&#126;) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages ↗, add a question to the village pump ↗ or ask me on <!-- my Talk page ↗ (broken) --> my talk page. Again, welcome! Kukini 14:01, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

I can't get the redirect on Electromagnetic hypersensitivity ↗ to work. If I edit it is comes up OK, but when I exit and try checking it, the auto redirect fails.

:It seems to be working, Electromagnetic hypersensitivity ↗ redirects to Electrical sensitivity ↗. When you make a redirect the show preview gives an erraneous result, maybe the was the problem.--Commander Keane 12:21, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

How to I correct wrong capitalisation on a new page title - I can't find a way to edit it. It is Books on british railway accidents ↗, should be British of course. Also the link from my user page isn't working, hopefully that will be solved when the case is corrected. Hyperman 42 17:01, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
:Hi, simply use the "move" tab at the top of any article to rename/move a page. Cheers, Tangot<span style="color:green;">a</span>ngo ↗ 17:03, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

wikify, context

: You queried the context of the article I'd started on the Hither Green rail crash ↗. I'm puzzled because it's a pretty standard format for other articles on rail crashes by a variety of wikipedians. Can you be more specific? I've also noted this on the talk page. Thanks. <small>(Hyperman 42 ↗ in email)</small>
Why use email? Also on user_talk pages, always create a wikilink to the article you are talking about.

I was not objecting to the format it was the lack of '''context''' - your version ↗ gave only the vaguest indication of where the crash happened. There were four vital wikilinks missing: Hastings, London, Hither Green and Grove Park . These have now all been provided for you but it would have been better if you had created them yourself.

I don't like to rub this in but I note with horror that you removed my {{tl|wikify}} tag (I should have given it a {{tl|context}} tag as well) from Castlecary (East Dunbartonshire) rail accident ↗ even though none of the vital location information had been added.

OK, others will come along and add the links eventually, but think wiki, get your fingers trained to fly to the [[]] keys as you write the article - like I am doing here. I also like to see a link to a map sources page, eg. as at the end of Ais Gill rail crash ↗ but I won't moan if you leave that out.

(I am a crash gongoozler - in my room I have a BR telephone recovered from the site of the Clapham Junction rail crash ↗!) -- RHaworth 06:26, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Railway accidents - books

What about a Books on railway accidents ↗ worldwide topic to complement the topic you start Books on British railway accidents ↗?

Electrosensitivity edits

Just a note to apologise for any offence re my edits on electrosensitivity ↗. They were all made in good faith ↗! I've replied to you on the discussion page. Look forward to working with you on it. Catpig 13:55, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

List of rail accidents

There is currently a discussion about whether we should set criteria for inlcusion of accients on the List of rail accidents ↗ page, and if so what the criteria should be.

The discussion is located at Talk:List of rail accidents/Criteria for inclusion ↗, where your input would be most welcome. Thryduulf 00:37, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

James Callaghan

It was always to the best of my recollection that he went to what is now City Boys. Im quite sure theres a wooden plaque in the hall dedicated to his attendance. However its been a decade since I went to City Boys so I could be mistaken and that he probably opened the hall or something similar! If you ring the City Records office (near the city museum) they will be able to put a local historian on the line to answer any questions etc (or ring CPBS as you mentioned). Anyway sorry if I made an error, I was mistaken and made the change in good faith. Just of note, next time someone makes an error, dont write that you were not impressed with them on their discussion, its not professional. Regards LordHarris 14:44, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Schools articles

Thanks for your message of support on the schools articles. I don't know what the anon editor had in mind, but nominating all those articles for speedy deletion wasn't the right way to go about it. Regards, Mr Stephen 23:04, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

I moved Connington South rail crash ↗ to Conington South rail crash ↗ but now realise that there is some uncertainty about the name and want to revert the move, not sure how to do this safely though. Can an experienced editor do it for me? A redirect page "Conington South rail crash" would be useful, I have seen this spelling used in at least one publication and also have a link to it. Hyperman 42 01:10, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

:Hey Hyperman 42, thanks for arguing to keep the City of Portsmouth Boys' School ↗ article. Ive made a lot of edits and improvements to the article since it began but if you could help by improving any of it, more people will hopefully argue to keep it. Just out of interest I had a look at the Mayfield school article and it hasnt any references - I think if you want to avoid a deletion attempt , similar to city boys, we need to get some references for it and try and improve the article! Hyremoon park ↗ moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Hyremoon park ↗, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable ↗, independent sources ↗. <small>(? ↗)</small> Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability ↗ is of central importance ↗ on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace ↗ (with a prefix of "<code>Draft:</code>" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline ↗ and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. There's no need to create a dummy article, which provides no context.Ost (talk) 20:04, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

I read that you need a citation for part of the Railway Series article that you edited. I can help, but what specifically do you need cited? Triviatronic9000 (talk) 20:30, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

:Thanks. It's explained in the talk page on The Railway Series, but basically I am asking either for some evidence and a citation for the claim that the Thin Controller represents Edward Thomas (rather than LTC Rolt) or that the text is altered. Hyperman 42 (talk) 23:25, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
::Thanks for clearing it up. What source did you use? I don't have the books, and the most I've learned about the books is from YouTube channels The Unlucky Tug and Explosive Cookie, but neither talk about the inspiration behind the Thin Controller. Triviatronic9000 (talk) 02:15, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
:::Well, the books themselves are closely based on the Talyllyn Railway which was the first railway to be saved and entirely operated by preservationists and volunteers. Most of the incidents are taken from LTC Rolt's book "Railway Adventure" recounting his experiences over the first 2 years when he was managing the railway and acting as guard and travelling ticket seller. Edward Thomas performed a similar role in the last years before the volunteers took over. So the Thin Controller could be based on either or both, but since the incidents all related to the preservation period I have always assumed it was Rolt rather than Thomas. Maybe W and C Awdry's book on the technical background to the Isle of Sodor Railways would clarify this, but I don't have that. Hyperman 42 (talk) 13:29, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
::::All the sources I know of don't mention the similarities you think exist, so I can't say. I don't know many web articles besides this one and related ones that talk about TRWS so I can't answer that question now. Sorry Triviatronic9000 (talk) 23:20, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
:::::Yes, I don't think you'd find the answer in the average web article, it would need to go back to earlier sources with a better understanding of what Rev Awdry intended at the time. There's general agreement that the Thin Controller is based on one or both of Rolt and Thomas, as the parallel is clear and intentional for those who know the books and the railway especially round the time of writing in the 1950s/60s - the question is which one. July 2026 - Bedford rail crash

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello, I'm Mattdaviesfsic. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, :2026 Bedford train collision ↗,&#32;but you didn't provide a reliable source ↗. On Wikipedia, it's important that article content be verifiable ↗. If you'd like to resubmit your change with a citation ↗, your edit is archived in the page history ↗. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. <!-- Template:uw-unsourced1 --> ''Cheerio, Mattdaviesfsic. Talk to me.'' 08:54, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

:Hello User:Mattdaviesfsic, thanks for your vigilance on this. I agree that clear sources would be needed for the statements that I added. The statement about the train remaining upright and in-line is clear from the photo (compare Colwich 1986) but not sure of the best way to reference this. The comment about people being hurt by tables and luggage I remember seeing in BBC reporting so I will have a look for it. But I also had a look at the extensive and interesting discussion on the main article talk page, so I am not sure now whether it would be best for me to hold off on adding this material until after the main RAIB investigation is complete. Hyperman 42 (talk) 11:54, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
::The latter comment would not be a problem to add, as it is not particularly controversial; it just needs a reference. ''Cheerio, Mattdaviesfsic. Talk to me.'' 11:55, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
:::Thanks. The relevant article referring to injuries from tables appears to be on the BBC site, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2j700l5jlo, and there is a similar quote in the Guardian. I would need to reword my comment accordingly, but as noted above, am now unsure that this would a be constructive thing to include. Wouldn't want to see people start a campaign to remove tables from all trains based on one isolated incident ... Hyperman 42 (talk) 12:12, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
::::The comment itself wasn't an issue, just needed a source. There have been injuries from all sorts of things in trains historically so I wouldn't worry about it...! ''Cheerio, Mattdaviesfsic. Talk to me.'' 12:20, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
