WikiCup 2026 May newsletter

The second round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 April. As a reminder for contestants who just joined or are unaware of recent changes to our round-points system, good article nomination reviews ↗ now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP ↗. Peer reviews ↗, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews ↗, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 2 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; nine scored over 500; and fourteen scored over 300. The top seven contestants had at least one featured article ↗ (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here ↗. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 13 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 106 good articles, 22 good-topic articles and more than 40 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 3 In the News ↗ articles, and they have conducted over 200 reviews. The tournament points table ↗ has been updated.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. 25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello! Thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia, and in particular for adding references! However, adding a bare URL ↗ is not ideal, and exposes the reference to link rot ↗. It is preferable to use proper citation templates ↗ when citing sources ↗, including details such as title, author, date, and any other information necessary for a bibliographic citation ↗. Here's an example of a full citation using the {{tl|cite web}} template to cite a web page:
: <syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">Lorem ipsum<ref>{{cite web |title=Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac |publisher=Canon Inc |work=Ask a Question |date=2022 |url=https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART174839 |access-date=2022-04-02}}</ref> dolor sit amet.</syntaxhighlight>
which displays ''inline ↗'' in the running text of the article as:
:Lorem ipsum{{fake ref|1}} dolor sit amet.
and displays under '''References''' as:
#^ Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac ↗". ''Ask a Question''. Canon Inc. 2022. Retrieved 2022-04-02.
If you've already added one or more bare URLs to an article, there are tools available to expand them into full citations: try the Citer tool ↗, or in the wikitext editor ↗, try the reFill tool ↗, and in the Visual Editor ↗, the reference dialog ↗ can convert some bare urls into a full citation.
Once again, thanks for adding references to articles. <!-- Template:Uw-bareurl --> Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 13:22, 11 June 2026 (UTC)

DRV

I closed this as you were getting upset and lashing out when editors did not agree with you. You were an the edge of getting sanctioned so the kindest thing to do was to end it.

You need to find a way to deal with disagreement that doesn't include personalising that disagreement. I have been clashing with some of the DRV regulars for the best part of 20 years but that's because our philosophies differ not because they are bad people and robust debate makes better outcomes. Spartaz ''Humbug!'' 19:46, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

:I am not saying to be rude to you as your reply is fine, but if I was on the edge of getting sanctioned, that's pathetic. What did I say that was personal?
:People need to understand that for me as an autistic person, my points being ignored gets me very upset. Also, being told what to do when I felt very hurt by the volleyball people originally was not going to get anywhere. Also, can you explain to me why the following questions?
:*Why is passive aggression allowed in Wikipedia? I have had numerous editors be passive aggressive to me in the past and they get no sanctions.
:*Why do people constantly ignore my points? It feels so unjust, unfair and gets me upset. It is like people don't take me seriously.
:Don't take anything I said personally, but please answer the two questions as that will help my mental health.
:Best regards ILoveSport2006 (talk) 19:58, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
::What you did that you were about to be sanctioned for was casting aspersions ↗ by saying that the nominator was acting out of spite, in the AFD, and then saying: {{tq|you are a liar saying I selectively targeted them.}}. That is what you did that you were about to be sanctioned for. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:23, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
:::Well he did say I selectively targeted them when I didn't. Wouldn't that would make anyone upset? Also, he said my work was commendable but then ten days later nominated my pages for deletion and it did feel a bit like spite. The spite comes from the fact that a day before the nomination, I started editing and making changes to the Volleyball Nations Leagues pages again. He reverted to it and then right after nominated my pages for deletion. So it felt very coincidental and since he had been giving me problems already, it did feel like spite.
:::Also your response proves my point about being ignored as again, I have to explain for the third time my points. I don't want to be lectured about how I acted because I am always civil 99% of the time, but I felt very hurt by the volleyball editors and felt they weren't listening to me which as I've said numerous times gets me very upset.
:::So if you want me to stop replying, You have got to stop making me repeat the same points I've made.
:::Also, the passive aggressive question wasn't answered so can I please have that answered as it would make help my mental health. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 20:38, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
::::Frankly, you are in complaining about the speck in other editors' eyes while ignoring the beam in your's territory. Spartaz ''Humbug!'' 21:16, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::What? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 21:53, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::See The Mote and the Beam ↗. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:42, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::I guess my mental health isn't worth being improved by you people. That says it all. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 22:03, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::You are going to be sorely disappointed if you think editors here will change their approaches to pander to your mental health. I'm saying this for absolute clarity, if you try and guilt other editors this way again then I'm going to remove you from participating. Spartaz ''Humbug!'' 06:28, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::I guess when my mental health is at stake for a month, people didn't give a damn. Don't reply I am not replying again to this conversation with people that dislike me. I tried to be nice but that didn't work. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 10:21, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
::You wrote: {{tq|Why do people constantly ignore my points? It feels so unjust, unfair and gets me upset.}} Your points were not ignored. They were read and disagreed with. There is a difference between being ignored and being in a minority and disagreed with. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:23, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
:Coming here to follow up on my colleague's comments. Your posts on @D.18th's Talk and at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2026 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League preliminary round ↗ are entirely uncalled for. Please consider this a final warning or you will be blocked and potentially topic banned from sports articles. <span style="color:#be33ff;">Star</span> <span style="color:#ff33da;">Mississippi</span> 01:16, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
::He tried to say I canvassed on the talk page which infuriated me. You don't know what I dealt with for a month. This hasn't changed the way as I am as I know I am one of the nicest people you will meet. This has made my opinion on people who runs the deletion or help desk pages significantly worse. My questions were constantly not answered in exchange for unhelpful opinions that didn't serve to help the situation but rather made the situation worse. I told you how I react in situations where it feels unjust but you still have no understanding and that has been shown the whole time in these conversations. There are some good people on this site, people who offer a lot and add brilliant ideas, but it definitely doesn't to all. This is my final reply on this situation and I am ready to live my life.
