Group stage pages

Hi Kante4, I want to ask you a question. I am having difficulties with the volleyball editors because they want to delete a group stage page which gives detailed statistics of each game in the competition using the volleyball boxes. But when I say that other sports do the exact same thing, they are constantly giving me wiki links, saying that that argument isn't good enough. But the truth is I don't know how to describe why the pages should exist because in other sports it's just commonplace and no one needs back up why they are there. Is it possible if you can describe why group/league phase pages in sports exist because I don't know how to explain it to them. Plus one specific editor has already started reverting my edits solely because it's not consistent with the previous editions, which annoys me because as you know with my edits if the handball, water polo and other articles, I have made tables and statistics charts and no one has told me they shouldn't exist solely because it wasn't done in the previous editions. So why do these volleyball editors not grasp that?

Best regards ILoveSport2006 (talk) 10:06, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
:{{Ping|ILoveSport2006}} I am not invloved in the volleyball thing, especially without knowing what article you talk about. And tbh, i am not a huge fan of all those tables but i can live with it. Kante4 (talk) 10:09, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
::Look, this volleyball situation has taken a lot out of me and it has mentally drained me. I do respect your editing, but I didn't ask you to say that you don't like my edits. I am already demoralised as it is with the volleyball situation. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 10:28, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
:::{{Ping|ILoveSport2006}} I mean, it's just a voluntary community project, sometimes things go your way, sometimes they don't. It is what it is. If this demoralises you, get some fresh air, take a break and remember it's not that deep. If that page gets deleted, so be it, happends to everyone. Why not talk with the Volleyball project/people on how to improve/add the things you think you should be added. Stay calm, friendly during all of this and remember, it's just a website, there are things bigger in life than this article or that page or whatever. Don't let somethiong that happens on the wiki demoralise you in real life, that is not good. Kante4 (talk) 10:33, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
::::@Kante4 Thanks for the friendly reply. But I do to clarify something. When you said '''Why not talk with the Volleyball project/people on how to improve/add the things you think you should be added.''' I HAVE TRIED so many times. I have tried to explain my arguments and tried to get a consensus but they have refused to talk to me properly. All they do is give me wikilinks and ignore my valid points. I am even considering bringing this to the administrators noticeboard as me and another editor are both being ignored. One particular editor has has given me three different reasons in three different conversations for why my edits shouldn't be allowed. Three! It's like every time I bring it up they find another reason. He nominated my articles despite saying my work was commendable, which doesn't make sense to me. That's why I am mentally drained. Finally, as I said in the first reply. My edits are being reverted because it's not consistent with the previous editions. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 10:54, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::{{Ping|ILoveSport2006}} I see and can understand why it's frustrating, the answers are not very helpful from the other editor. (Hint: I have no horse in this discussion) Looking through the pages and history it looks like a content dispute between mostly two editors. I would first use Wikipedia:Third opinion ↗ to see what an uninvloved experienced editor has to say and hoping that it helps to settle the discussion. Kante4 (talk) 11:07, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::The other editor has already used Wikipedia:Third opinion ↗ to put me down by saying I am deliberately missing the point, which is wrong, rather he wasn't listening to mine. But all the third person said was we need a consensus. I tried to get a consensus by bringing this up on the volleyball project talk page and we got nowhere. Shall I try again? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 16:15, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Yeah, ping editors who are in the project or did volleyball updates the last few weeks to see if anyone has an opinion to that. Kante4 (talk) 16:20, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::::Hi. I asked many people on their talk pages and most of them didn't reply to me. But one editor did say he hopes my article won't be deleted, yet at the same time, hasn't said keep on the AFD page. Another one has started editing on the page which to me thinks that he would keep it too. What is annoying me is that people that don't know the situation and never edits volleyball pages are saying delete. I gave them facts on the talk page and they still want to delete them. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 18:31, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::{{Ping|ILoveSport2006}} Ask an uninvolved editor in the third opinion board, other than that i am not sure what else to do. It's a content dispute so the editors in question have to come to a consensus at some point, with help it looks like in that case. Kante4 (talk) 19:29, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::::::That editor is trying to say I am rigging the vote because I asked people if they liked my articles. He is lying. All I did was ask many editors if they liked the pages and if they did, vote to keep. I didn't want to ping many editors together because I didn't want them to get pressured by that one editor who run the volleyball section like a dictator. I am in a bit of a panic as I am being accused of something I wasn't trying to do. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 18:29, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::::{{Ping|ILoveSport2006}} Yes, it could have been worded more neutral but i have seen worse, tbh. The closing admin will either agree or disagree to canvassing, for me it's not that big of a deal as there was no pressure on any editor. Kante4 (talk) 18:36, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::::::I hope you are right. By the way, who is the closing admin? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 18:42, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::::::{{Ping|ILoveSport2006}} Whoever closes it, there are many so no one knows. Kante4 (talk) 18:52, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::::::::The women's volleyball nations League preliminary round page got deleted despite there not being a consensus on its deletion. What should I do? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 16:45, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::::::::{{Ping|ILoveSport2006}} It was decided here ↗ and can be challenged here ↗. Kante4 (talk) 17:03, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::::::::::I could just tell my supporters of the men's page whether they like the women's page as well. I could be wrong, but I think they would probably say yes as both pages are identical. This editor has been trigger happy. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 17:09, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
{{od}}{{Ping|ILoveSport2006}} You should invite all participants, not just the ones who agreed to keep it and keep the message neutral. Kante4 (talk) 17:11, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

:My pages were redirected. Just to clarify, as I said before. I didn't want to ping many editors together because I didn't want them to get pressured by that one editor. The redirection hurts. I might reply again but if I don't, thanks for your help. Sorry about the situation but know that whatever I do on Wikipedia, I do it to make the sports article better and there is no ulterior motive. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 19:07, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
::{{Ping|ILoveSport2006}} All good. Everyone tries their best but sometimes its not what stays on pages, happens. Just move on. Kante4 (talk) 19:12, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

Short form of Egyptian names

I noticed that in the latest IHF Women's U20 Handball World Championship article you changed the shortened name from <nowiki>Basmala ↗</nowiki> to <nowiki>Ahmed ↗</nowiki>. I was just curious about the reasoning behind that.

Her full name is Basmala Ahmed Abdelmoezz, where Basmala is her given name, Ahmed is her father's name, and Abdelmoezz is her grandfather's name. Since Egyptian names don't really follow the typical given name–surname structure, using "Ahmed" is actually referring to her patronymic rather than a family name.

That's why I wanted to ask whether we're intentionally standardizing Egyptian names to fit the more familiar Western naming convention. My understanding is that Egyptians also don't usually refer to people by their father's name alone rather they use the combination of both given name and father name, so I was wondering what approach you think we should follow for consistency. Lunar Spectrum96 (talk) 12:48, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
:{{Ping|Lunar Spectrum96}} I just follow what we used the last years and it says "AHMED ABDELMOEZZ Basmala" so Basmala first name and Ahmed the first surname (for me). That's what i have been using but i never thought more into that as it was never opposed. Kante4 (talk) 12:54, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

Ballon d'Or top 10

Hi @Kante4, you reverted my recents edit. I made the argument that Ballon d'Or ↗ top 10 top finishes are legitimate recorded statistics, providing the example that Kylian Mbappé ↗ reached eight top 10 finishes recently to overtake Thierry Henry ↗, putting him in 3rd place in top 10 finishes.

I understand your point about it being unsourced, that was my mistake to not source. I completely forgot to which is not normal for me to do. Slowvans321 (talk) 20:42, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
:{{Ping|Slowvans321}} Hey, i dont think it should be added as it is a trivial statistic. Maybe its best to ask at the footy project to ask for more opinions on that. Kante4 (talk) 20:49, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
::Please direct me to the footy project. Thanks. Slowvans321 (talk) 20:51, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
:::{{Ping|Slowvans321}} Here you go ↗. Kante4 (talk) 21:08, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

One surname

Maggie is officially registered in both Swedish club leagues and by the International Handball Federation ↗ (IHF) as '''Maggie Doherty Dahllöf'''. As a dual Swedish-American ↗ citizen, her hyphen-free double surname legally and culturally represents both sides of her heritage; 'Dahllöf' is not a middle name that can be skipped for convenience. In fact, her club Huddinge HK ↗ (example ↗), international tournament rosters, and official 'Player of the Match' awards always write out both names in full. Shortening her name to just 'Doherty' is factually incorrect and misrepresents her identity, it should be treated as hyphen double surname. Hope you're having a great day/night, thanks for reading! Lunar Spectrum96 (talk) 17:25, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
:{{Ping|Lunar Spectrum96}} A quick google search tells me that i was wrong, thanks for notifying me. Feel free to revert. Kante4 (talk) 17:28, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
