Disambiguation link notification for April 14

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Stepwell ↗, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bullock ↗. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ{{*}} Join us at the DPL WikiProject ↗.

Your edits

Hi there. Thanks for your contributions. Please take a moment to look at some of the links in the welcome message above, as some of your edits appear to be "test edits" that were poorly formatted (eg. at Alligator, Mississippi ↗ you added a sideways photo). You can always do test edits in your sandbox, and then add them to an article when you are sure they are properly formatted. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 20:34, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

{{re|Magnolia677}} I was aware that the Alligator, Mississippi ↗ photo was sideways. I've put in at the Commons for it to be rotated, which usually takes a day or two. Usually I'm just trying to let editors here be aware that there are photos on the Commons, and really thought they would be more tolerant and fix any mistakes. I'll stop adding any photos to articles here. Sorry if I upset you. Best, Kalbbes (talk) 20:52, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
:You added a sideways photo. I removed it, and I requested the rotation...not you. You can do whatever you please. Just take a moment to learn how to do it before you do it. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:20, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
{{re|Magnolia677}} I requested the rotation before I added it to the article. You can see by the image history exactly what happened. See: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:AlligatorMississippiSign.jpg&action=history ↗. You requested it after that. Please learn to do a little checking before you accuse other editors and be more careful. I'm sorry I upset you this much that you must act this way. Kalbbes (talk) 21:43, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

Pictures of historic sites

My friend let me tell you sometimes my adventures and hobby of documenting historical structures can be very exciting.

One of the more exciting ones was when I set out to find and photograph the old Joint Head Dam. No one knew the exact location of the dam and there were no pictures of it anywhere. I found an old map and set out to do the discovery myself with my son. I couldn't find the exact location of the dam until my third attempt on March 2017. That was when I returned and had to hack away at bushes and dried cacti with torn's, I felt like Indiana Jones. I finally found it and what a thrill.

First let me tell you about the importance of the dam. When the pioneers of European descent settled in what was to become Phoenix, the area was mainly desert. Settlers such as Jack Swilling ↗, his wife Trinidad Swilling ↗ and group of his friends were inspired by the ancient canals built by the Hohokam. The pioneers soon founded the Swilling Irrigation and Canal Company and began to dig ditches to transfer water from the Salt River which would irrigate their farms. Eventually, canal building companies, such as the Arizona Canal Company, which was formed in December 1882, were organized and built the current canals in the area. The Joint Head Dam was built in 1884, where Jack Swilling dug his ditch, known as the "Swillings Ditch", and where the Salt River is located. The dam served the Grand Canal (built 1878) and eventually the Old Crosscut Canal (built 1888). There were some repairs made in 1913, however it was soon abandoned and forgotten about to the point that no one cared nor remembered its' existence. That is until I made my business to rediscover it. It can be said that this where Phoenix was born.

Enjoy some the first ever photos of the Joint Head Dam Tony the Marine (talk) 22:29, 8 July 2018 (UTC):

Viktor Pavlovich Potapov

Hi, I'm curious how you identify this image - :File:VPButorin.jpg ↗ - as being of Viktor Pavlovich Potapov ↗. There's very little detail in the uploaded comments, but the surname seems to be Butorin, not Potapov. Spokoyni (talk) 20:07, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
::{{ping|Spokoyni}} Maybe I am wrong. I made the guess based on the other uploads by the same user. Krok6kola (talk) 20:16, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
:::The user has apparently made these uploads to illustrate a biography on a 'Viktor Pavlovich Butorin' - which was deleted from the Russian wikipedia for lack of notability, see here ↗. The article exists on a wiki mirror, using the same image, though the link is blacklisted here. Other images uploaded by the user confirm these are two different officers, such as the medals being incorrect for Potapov, as well as dates and timings of ranks. I think commons:Category:Viktor Pavlovich Potapov ↗ needs some correction now. Spokoyni (talk) 20:24, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
