Album certifications

So when an album certification has been let's say certified platinum and a month later an article is released stating the album has sold 300,000 pure sales so obviously we add that if it's available. But let's say a year later the album has now been certified 2X platinum. Do we keep the sales ref? I always believed we removed it if a new cert has been issued because it would make the sales ref considered "outdated". I opened a discussion regarding this issue 2 years ago and all parties pretty much came to an agreement regarding this. I tried opening up another one but on Taylor Swift ↗s talk page because I removed a sales ref on several of her albums due to a newly issued cert but a user is saying it needs to stay because "pure sales are not as volatile as streaming-adjusted certification, and this pure sales figure (as of 2024) is unlikely to move up significantly any time soon".
