How do you want to frame the lead for Joe Biden ↗ and his low approval ratings?

See the section on '''Presidential assessments''', which I wrote while collecting sources in the last days of Biden's presidency. The clear consensus among RS is that Biden's presidency is perceived as a failure by the American people, journalists, and members of Biden's own party. Biden's presidency shares similarities with Jimmy Carter (one-term) and LBJ (withdrew from re-election), and their leads state how their presidencies were viewed as failures (Carter) and their popularity declined over time (LBJ). Biden's lead needs to incorporate such content. JohnAdams1800 (talk) 16:29, 17 January 2025 (UTC)

:I definitely appreciate you reaching out, but I checked out the talk page and think both sides of the argument have been pretty well represented. I probably don't have anything especially meaningful to add. Thanks, Loytra (talk) 01:22, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

Punctuation

If someone repeatedly reverts punctuation changes that you make, you should at least check with a style guide to see if your changes are actually correct, rather than just repeatedly reverting to a version that is ultimately incorrect. Your first port of call as far as Wikipedia style is concerned is WP:MOS ↗, and in this particular case, MOS:GEOCOMMA ↗. Einsof (talk) 14:30, 11 May 2026 (UTC)

"What are we doing here?"

''You're Australian. What do you know about American politics, much less Californian local politics? I'm from California, born and raised. I'm registered as a Republican in California because I want to vote in the Republican's closed primaries, but I don't consider myself to be a Republican. So you tell me what we are doing here.''

Alexysun (talk) 07:58, 12 May 2026 (UTC)

:@Alexysun you should take it as a compliment that I enjoy learning about your region's politics. If you feel like covering the upcoming 2026 Victorian state election ↗, I would be honoured :-)
:Regardless, the 'political party' parameter lists someone's party affiliation. This is, for the most part, uncontroversial. You not considering yourself a Republican has no effect on your status as a legally registered Republican, just as it doesn't for Pratt. Pratt — a registered Republican that espouses conservative policies and is popular among conservatives — is a Republican. Why on Earth are you so averse to him being labelled as such? <span style="color:#AAA"></span><span style="border-radius:9em;padding:0 5px;background:#088"><span style="color:#FFF">'''Loytra'''</span></span> 08:23, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
::@Loytra Victoria itself has a population smaller than LA County ↗. 7m vs 10m. California has 39.36 million people while Australia itself only has 27.7 million. California has a GDP of 4.25 T compared to Australia's 1.95 T.
::I mean you're free to edit articles about Californian politics. I guess my point is that these elections are rather consequential and to be Republican in California means something much different than being a Liberal Party member in Australia. You could compare it to the stigmatization around One Nation or being a One Nation supporter in Australia. My point is that please understand what you are editing before you put something on a page, especially since you lack contextual information about public opinion that can't be conveyed through articles on the internet, that only native residents can feel through lived experience, which can be difficult to fully grasp from abroad as an Australian editor. Spencer Pratt is not a Republican candidate. Is he conservative? I don't know. Surely it's reactionary to his damn home being burnt down by the incumbent mayor. I obviously agree that he is "a legally registered Republican", but I still disagree about listing him as a Republican in his infobox because he NOT a Republican candidate for the Mayor of LA.
::You have yourself a nice day. I won't drag this issue any longer. I did what I could.
::P.S. Trying to tank a candidate's chances in a place that you've never lived in from halfway around the globe Down Under is CRAZY. Alexysun (talk) 10:17, 13 May 2026 (UTC)

:::{{Tq|Trying to tank a candidate's chances in a place that you've never lived in from halfway around the globe Down Under is CRAZY.}}
:::@Alexysun Lol, this is the true reason for this argument, isn't it? You're not interested in maintaining a neutral encyclopedia, you're worried about the optics of a Republican running for mayor in a heavily Democratic city.
:::Pratt is a registered Republican. Therefore, he is listed as a Republican in his infobox. I understand how American politics works. I understand that party registration is much looser in the US than it is in most other countries. Regardless, standard practice for US politicians is to list one's party registration in their infobox. ''You're'' the one trying to do POV editing on behalf of your preferred candidate. I'm just trying to build an encyclopedia.

Hello {{BASEPAGENAME}},

thumb|400px|New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026 ↗

'''Backlog update'''

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

'''2024 and 2025 NPP Awards'''

74px|left ↗{{no ping|JTtheOG}} was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.
{{no ping|Hey man im josh}} and {{no ping|MPGuy2824}} won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

{{no ping|BoyTheKingCanDance}}, {{no ping|Rosiestep}}, {{no ping|SunDawn}}, and {{no ping|Vanderwaalforces}} were inducted into the NPP Hall of Fame ↗ for having two separate years of 2,000+ article reviews.

'''January–February backlog drive'''

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to {{no ping|JTtheOG}}, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

'''May backlog drive'''

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026 ↗.

'''PageTriage'''

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed ↗ to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket ↗ if you're interested in following along.

Netanyahu

Regarding this edit ↗, I would invite you to self-revert. Either 'Bibi' is so common that the article should be moved to Bibi Netanyahu ↗ (doubtful) or the nickname should be moved elsewhere in the lede. However, it should not be in the opening bold name. GiantSnowman 10:40, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

:@GiantSnowman Hi! First, I just wanted to thank you for leaving this message. I know asking others to self-revert isn't ''too'' uncommon, but it's the first I've experienced it. It really is a lot nicer than just receiving a revert notification.
:However, I'm not sure I agree that this one should be reverted. MOS:NICKNAME ↗ is pretty clear in that widely-used nicknames should be integrated into the lead sentence, and that foreign language hypocorisms count in this regard. Where does the dispute lie, exactly? <span style="color: #3FA673">'''Loytra'''</span> 11:42, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
::The article should not say {{tq|'''Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu''' is a..."}}, it should, at most, say {{tq|'''Benjamin Netanyahu''', knickamed "'''Bibi'''", is a..."}} - that is standard and in compliance with NICKNAME. As it stands it is not. GiantSnowman 12:52, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
:::@GiantSnowman MOS:NICKNAME states:
:::{{tq|If a person is known by a nickname used in lieu of or in addition to a given name, and it is not a common hypocorism of one of their names, or a professional alias, it is usually presented between double quotation marks following the last given name or initial.}}
:::How is the present wording not in compliance with this? <span style="color: #3FA673">'''Loytra'''</span> 15:02, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
::::That is applicable situation where the nickname is the same as the article name - see the examples given, 'Roland Bernard "Bunny" Berigan' is located at Bunny Berigan ↗, 'John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne' is located at Ozzy Osbourne ↗ etc. Here the article is NOT at Bibi Netanyahu ↗, is it, so it does not meet NICKNAME - so we follow the Emory Sparrow ↗ example, where his nickname of 'Spunk' is listed later in the lede... GiantSnowman 15:07, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::@GiantSnowman To me, the current wording seems like a pretty standard way of including a nickname. It fully abides by the letter of the policy, and has the benefit of both informing readers without necessitating the addition of a clunky {{tq|also known as...}} clause. I don't anyone's gonna read the sentence and inherently assume he's called "Bibi Netanyahu" over simply "Bibi", no matter what examples the policy gives.
:::::However, if you really want to alter the wording, I'm not gonna stop you. I do understand your qualms, I guess we just have different perspectives. <span style="color: #3FA673">'''Loytra'''</span> 15:20, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::But 'also known as' is what we do when the article name and the nickname are different! GiantSnowman 15:22, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::::@GiantSnowman But that's not codified anywhere! It's just a clunky form we use when necessary! Here it isn't necessary!
:::::::Look, again, I'm not gonna stop you haha! I just think the phrasing's better the way it is, but if you disagree and wanna change it that's totally okay :-) <span style="color: #3FA673">'''Loytra'''</span> 15:27, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::::It's literally 'codified' in the Spunk Emory example I gave! GiantSnowman 15:28, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::@GiantSnowman No, it's not! That's an example showing editors how to avoid {{tq|cram[ming] multiple hypocorisms and nicknames into the name in the lead sentence}}. "Bibi" is not "multiple hypocorisms and nicknames" — it's a simple alias that fits cleanly into the lead sentence. There is no policy that mandates the {{tq|also known as...}} wording. The only relevant policy here is MOS:NICKNAME ↗, which explicitly endorses the current wording. <span style="color: #3FA673">'''Loytra'''</span> 15:42, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
