I stand corrected, though if France hasn't actually been mentioned in an episode, it might be worth noting the source for the information, since it's always possible a future episode might contradict it. (I don't know what Abram's standing is re:canon; Star Trek, for example, discounts everything that isn't mentioned on screen, even official profiles. AIV and a question

Thanks for the AIV report on {{vandal|75.93.198.139}}. On the subject of number changing, this is something I see a lot when huggling ↗. Do you have any advice or techniques for identifying number-changing vandalism and distinguishing it from legitimate edits? I often find plausible-looking number changing edits by IPs, such as changing the population of a city, and find myself wondering what is the best way to handle it. --causa sui (talk) 22:07, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

In this case, these two edits ↗. I knew they were wrong based on knowledge of the singer, but even if I didn't, the new quote wouldn't make any sense, and it's a big change. So the edit was definitely suspicious enough that I would recommend checking the reference, which is linked right there. If it wasn't hyperlinked, than checking the Taylor Swift ↗ article would be really easy. Changing a direct quote is automatically suspect. The vandal's other edits were mostly the release dates of past albums and birthdates, which again are automatically suspect, because those figures should never change. Populations and sales figures are a bit trickier than that, but common sense helps. Ridiculous numbers or big changes should stand out. Checking the citation or the rest of the article helps. If an uncited number gets changed from one thing to another, then it was never really verifiable in the first place, and you can add a <nowiki>{{Cite}}</nowiki> tag. For some things, like for me sports statistics, it's easiest to accept that you have no idea what the numbers mean, and defer to editors with more knowledge in the field. -LtNOWIS (talk) 23:14, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

**You made the right call in simply reverting those edits. SPAs using biography articles as political attack pages is pretty much a textbook case of POV-pushing, even it it wasn't a BLP article. The word choice in those edits was simply egregious, with the bill being "gutted" and taxpayers being "shocked." But I think the POV and sourcing issues were secondary to the fact that it was a clear case of WP:SYNTH ↗. There's no source that connects Corbett with Solyndra, but the editor draws these separate threads together to create a narrative. That would be great for a blog or newspaper, but we don't do original research here. So yeah, you made the right call. Article Feedback Tool update

Hey LtNOWIS. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool ↗ in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

I am pleased to say that April will be a ''very'' exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.

First, a reminder that our second annual '''Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon ↗''' will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Coming up in April, we have our first-ever '''Open Government WikiHack ↗''' with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a '''happy hour ↗''' the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.

On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The '''Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon ↗''' will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.

The following day, we are having our second annual '''Wiki Loves Capitol Hill ↗''' training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.

Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon

The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.

If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.
